I don’t remember where in the interrogation it was, but I also love the part where he’s going on and on about how wonderful and innocent NK is, and the agent says something like “Okay Chris, lets get back to your missing wife and children now.” 😳 Oops.

Chasity Young I worked about 6 months in al county Maximum Security jail,,, listed that way,,, so i hated it!!! It stinks awful, full of Lice and Staff infection.... the inmates sit in those cells 4 or 2 to a room,,,, toilet and sink in a corner,,, no privacy, no chemicals to clean their cells or toilets,,,,they stick their bare hands in the toilet they all use to clean it,,,, they can’t be given anything as they will make weapons or throw cleaning supplies on the jailers face!!!!!! They live in hell on earth and too bad killers and rapists and violent savages are kept, they all should get a death sentence and it should be carried out right away!!! Jail should be for The lesser offenders

One thing that struck me in the lie detector test is when Chris had no problem shutting off his phone for like 3 hours during the test. And then after the test he doesn’t even show any sense of urgency to turn it back on. I think he asks if they want him to keep it off. Anyone with missing kids wouldn’t oblige so easily. A normal person would be like “wait no what if I miss a call or text about my family?? I can’t do that!” I’m sure they wanted to gauge his reaction and as expected dopey racks up another FAIL.

dj1200 you have some very interesting points, perhaps the detectives were more focused on finding. Shannan and her 2 children and nailing Chris was the next step after that. Also Chris underestimated how much Shanann’s friends cared about her. He thought he had days to clean up but her friends and family were onto the case straight away. Even Nicky waiting to make sure Shannan got thru her front door before she drove away shows love and caring. Such a pity no one realised she was walking into a death trap. Do you think Shannan being so much on social media is what has made us all feel as though we knew her? Sending you a big hello from Australia.

@@Soffity Exactly!! Dopey CW did not expect her friends or antyone for that matter to worry so quickly..just shows how out of touch he really was with Shan'anns world and what an idiot he was, so focused on himself and what he wanted(and why he did what he did)that he tripped up himself! Moron, he is! And not only that, he was so used to just pretending, faking it, lying, it is all he's done his whole life, but like dude here says...those were for little moments at a time, he didn't realize the big pic and that he would have to carry on his deception for hours! And it all went crashing down around him!! Ultimately for starters tho...God Bless Nickole Atkinson for just tuning in so freakin quickly and foiling his plans from the get go...u just know he was cussing her out under his breath lol and did u see how she looked at him when he finally opened the door...pure disgust and then when they found Shan'ann's phone? She went to touch it and backed away like it was on fire!! She was so fkin in tune to everything!! I love her and am so grateful! And an honorable mention, in a big way of course, to Nate the neighbor, his camera, but also, He knew CW wasn't acting right!! So God Bless him AND all the law enforcement! They moved so fast and took him down! Quick! CW got played lol!! He really thought he could fool everyone...what a joke he is! And murderer!! Peice of scum, crap ass punk!! Thank you!!

M K what an excellent point! When my daughter was a three, she hid in a circular rack of clothes right in front of me. In a split second she had disappeared. I was so frantic as I searched and called out for her but the most eerie part that filled me with both dread and futility is that it felt like the everyone and everything around me went into slow motion! I love the body cam footage of Chris with the cop the first day after he returns from work and Nichole A. and her son are freaking out. The part where they are standing in the bedroom closet and the cop goes over his story once more. Chris spills his rehearsed story again and the cop says nothing. Just...crickets. He allows Chris time and then...silence. And Chris is just standing there looking at the cop/camera with big doe eyes like “please believe me”. I knew, the cops knew, everyone knew in the moment. That was the moment of conviction and it was palpable. I loved that.

What gets me is he says "I just couldn't go back to that house, I just couldn't go back to that house." Well that's dumb because if his wife is going to come home or call him that's where she's going to come back or call. So he's just saying to all that something terrible went on there, so "I can't go back"
It's like he was just telling the world I did something terrible or somebody died there and the scene was grotesque, or there was some horrible bloody stuff that he wants to forget. I think he was living in a 24 or 48 hour bubble of thinking that if he could just escape by going to another place, the neighbors or wherever, everything would be okay again.
To say "I just can't go back to the house" (so he stayed with neighbors) is like telling everybody "I know something that happened there & I'm involved with it, and
I may be the perpetrator and I don't want to go back--- because I'M DONE WITH THEM!"

As a narcissist he will always be number one and playing the abandoned victim husband was what he was going for. If you noticed in the interrogation when this seasoned detective says "What you are saying is not beleivable", the idiot asks "What part?" "what is not believable?" In a narcissists mind he can erase and start all over with what he has written in his head and no one will notice. It's not temporary insanity, blackouts or anything like that but I keep thinking he was in some sort of 'feeding frenzy' similar to an animal. I also do not think he planned the end game part, only the kill them all.....it will work out....it has before with the bad stuff I've done.

I think he relied on others for the details. He's a worker bee. Someone who takes direction but is clueless on how to lead so coming up with a feasible plan was out of the question.
Narcissist, sociopath- whatever we want to call him- he is void of the details, including feelings unless they concern him. His feelings, his comfort, his goals, his passions, etc. Erase the inconvenience of his family because they weren't filling him up anymore.

So many jaw dropping aspects of the Chris Watts case. What's so brilliant, is that it provides such fascinating insights into the warped mind and thought processes of the most extreme psychopaths. Non-psychopaths are obviously shocked about the crime itself, which is unfathomable and utterly inexplicable (his mistress, money worries and another baby on the way may explain the timing of the murders, but no amount of circumstance will ever explain the heinous crimes themselves). But equally shocking is Chris Watts' total inability to stage any kind of plausible cover up - even down to the most basic requirement, to behave like a loving and concerned, innocent husband and father!
So many questions whirling round my mind that will never be answered. Why did he plan the killings themselves and successfully carry them out (he chose the methods to avoid a messy clean up - strangulation/suffocation equals no blood and Shanann's neck surgery meant strangulation would be easily achieved), yet he gave so little thought to covering his tracks?
Some of his deficiencies in the cover up are down to the simple fact the crime was detected so fast, within hours, a possibility he clearly never anticipated. Thanks to his wife's friend Nickole's quick detection that they were missing, her tenacity and crucially her decision to summon cops, CW never had a chance to clean up the house/crime scene. He was probably secretly congratulating himself that he at least got the bodies safely away from the home before he was showing cops around - until he saw himself loading up the corpses on neighbour Nate's video footage!
But WHY didn't CW predict that Shanann's absence may be noticed the very next day - he knew she was constantly on her phone and posting to social media, she even had a doctor's appointment that morning that I feel she must have mentioned to him. If he had stopped to think then surely he'd have realised she of all people could not drop off radar for long? One of his biggest mistakes was using his work truck to dump the bodies, knowing it had GPS that cops could and would investigate, leading them straight to the bodies. Why didn't he put the corpses in Shanann's car, no GPS and it was hidden out of sight of any cameras safely inside the garage, so no need to back up a truck in view of Nate's video lens?
Why did he go to work at all that day, when he knew he had an urgent job to do cleaning up the crime scene and getting rid of evidence like his wife's mobile phone, wallet, the kids medicines etc? Surely his safest course would be to return home in Shanann's car after dumping the bodies (not leaving a bedsheet from home at the burial site DOH!) then phone in sick to work, saying he/Shanann was ill so he had not gone to the works site as promised. Staying home on Monday on the pretext of his own or Shanann's sickness would also have allowed him to guard the crime scene from visitors and field calls to her phone. He could have got Nickole off his back by telling her Shanann was in bed sleeping, too sick to come to the phone. He could have kept prying eyes and questions away for 24 hours and set up a scenario at home supporting his story that Shanann and the kids had disappeared, maybe dumping her car somewhere later that day and burning it out to create further intrigue. He could then have been the one to call police on the Tuesday - making him seem more like a worried husband who had raised the alarm when his family didn't come home.
Why on earth did CW say he and Shanann were separating - there was no need to, they had not separated, indeed she was expecting another baby! Why did he say they had any marital problems at all? He could have passed off their recent rows and even his affair as unimportant. Again he hadn't been able to put himself in other people's place and see that splitting from his wife was a big red flag that gave him a motive to kill her! It seems he seized on a "We discussed separation and she left me, taking the kids" as his 'brilliant' explanation for their disappearance. But women who leave their husbands reappear at some stage - they don't vanish off the face of the earth, with their children!
True Crime Loser hit the nail on the head when he said CW was used to lying and getting away with it all his life. He was a psychopath who cared nothing for other people - he could see his own sister run down by a truck in front of him and he would not shed a tear, he'd just be glad it wasn't him smashed to a pulp. He knew that's who he was, knew he wasn't the same as other people, and he knew full well he must never reveal that ugly truth, but must pretend to be a regular, loving, caring, decent guy. And he was incredibly successful at the act. His own wife had no idea she was sharing her bed with a psychopath who told her he loved her, but didn't care if she or the kids lived or died - and never had cared.
The lazy nature of the cover up, is explained by his life of getting away with it, and also his psychopath brain which means he can't empathise with normal people so can't meet their expectations of how a grieving, innocent man would behave. Psychopaths also have weaker brain pathways to feelings of fear, which is why they are risk takers - again CW did not fear getting caught and his narcissism told him he was smarter than everyone else and his declarations of innocence would be believed automatically.
I have many favourite moments in the police interviews. After Tammy the cop tells him he failed the polygraph and it's time to cut the crap, he launches into his 'big reveal' that he's been having an affair, was dishonest in not telling them, and that's why he failed it (nothing to do with killing 3 people in cold blood). And the male cop says to him, real cool "Oh yeah we know about your girlfriend Nicky. We're not interested in her - we just need to know where Shanann and the girls are", and bursts his balloon! Kinda dumb of him to answer 'No' in his very first interview with the male cop, when asked if he had a girlfriend - he already admitted he was splitting with his wife, having a girlfriend is not illegal and, most importantly - his phone/emails that he had surrendered to cops would show evidence of the affair anyway! This shows dumb lack of forward thinking by CW yet again!
I laughed so hard when Tammy cop said to him: "You keep saying you had an emotional conversation with Shanann and you were both crying but I have not seen you shed one tear through all of this. Not one - that's weird". And CW responds with a big sniff as his best, belated attempt at fake crying!
It's gobsmacking and surreal when he describes to the cops how he squeezed his little girls' corpses, feet first, into an 8 inch entry hatch into crude oil below. Incredulous, Tammy quizzes him about the size of the hole and says "The girls weren't alive when you put them in?" And he acts horrified, like that would be really terrible and the act of a madman, saying "Oh GOD no!" in a shocked voice!
In her subsequent police notes, Tammy reported that after describing in sickening detail how he dumped his family's corpses, he accepted her offer of pizza, ate the two slices she brought him, then accepted and ate another two slices brought by the male cop.
Give Chris Watts another year and he'll be 400lbs totally receded and grey and even more hunch backed than he is now! Anyone notice how old he looked in his recent, clean shaven mug shot? The beard had hidden his weird mouth - he has horrible thin, mean lips - in fact he has no visible top lip at all! Now these murders have ripped away his 'Mr Nice Guy' mask, he is looking like the vile, grotesque individual he was all along.

Yes, excellent commentary! Chris is a vile psychopath but not a criminal mastermind. His narcissistic arrogance makes him think that he is always the smartest person in the room. He truly was a wolf in sheep's clothing, that's one of the reasons why this case is so fascinating. I also noticed his calm matter-of-fact manner in describing how he shoved his babies in the oil well. He doesn't even fake the slightest bit of remorse, horror or disgust at himself or his actions. To me, that is so utterly bone-chilling that he doesn't even have a concept of how horrific that event is to those of us who are non psychopaths.

I think this case has become so fascinating to so many people bc of the social media thing - Shannan was so much on fb we almost thought we knew her and her family so when Chris Watts murdered them all it was so unbelievable. Not sure how I missed this awesome channel for so long, Im fortunate enough to be able to binge listen to ALL this stuff at my job. Late to the party obviously but I had to take a polygraph one time and be interrogated for something I didn’t do, 2003 I was 19. I was a manager at a Burger King in rural NY state. Like I never even owned a house key and stores don’t even have alarm systems. Took a deposit to Key bank, the drop box is a walk up (you have to get out of the car) out in the open. Some figure ran at me (it was dark) and I freaked out and covered my face and held out the deposit, which he took and fled in my running car. I was scared he might freak out and shoot me for looking at him. So I didn’t get a good look at him/her whatsoever. Went next door and called cops from there. They initially told me there were cameras at the bank. I was, of course relieved maybe they saw where my car went. The next day, they had me back and told me there weren’t cameras and started asking me questions and accusing me of taking it essentially-I was moving to Florida (I cannot stand any kind of cold and fled asap) with my boyfriend the next month. I kept asking why they lied and said there were cameras if there weren’t and I was pretty angry. 3 hours of interrogation and they asked me to take a polygraph. I said ‘yeah! why didn’t you just say that in the first place instead of wasting all this time??’ They said I couldn’t leave the state until I took it (lots of things I didn’t understand back then). Took it, passed, left a message on the detectives machine that I was leaving and never heard from them again. They did find my car, locked and running in an apartment complex. Got it back covered in neon fingerprint dust.
Honestly, the interrogation was worse than the robbery. I was afraid for like a decade and actually averted an otherwise guaranteed robbery after I moved to FL due to my paranoia (I was still doing management). I understand why they did that now, but at the time I was like ‘WTF??!?’
Sometimes I wonder if Chris had had any kind of prior experience with the law, if he wouldn’t have been such an epic dumbass and even tried at all.

The first thing I noticed was the clock. Perfect destabilizing strategy for that monster. Love your commentary. Been following the case from the beginning. Arm chair detective “Watts in the shadows” series proves a child was alive when he was loading the truck. Heartbreaking. The police did not release the entire discovery. The Vivant smart home camera and security system was disabled between the time Shannan walked in the door to the time he loaded the bodies up in the truck. Cd67 was a real time recording of Chris in the babies rooms that the camera in the babies room picked up on. He didn’t know the cameras RECORDED.

You're really good and kept me engaged, not bored at all even though I know a lot about this case. I'm in Canada, retired. You are one of the only people who seem to think and ask the questions that I would, especially about how you think HE was thinking during this time. I find this part fascinating. Even although he is a total evil jerk, I always wonder what goes through their minds AFTER the fact. What the hell did I do? Some people don't even care to consider these facts but I can't help but wonder. I wonder about how he feels every morning when he wakes up. His heart must sink every time. I'm sure if he could go back in time, he would give everything he has to be able to "re-set". One other comment about the "why" of it. I really think these guys (Chris and Scott) really, really hate their wives, I think the children in their minds are one and the same with the mother. How I wish that Shanann had not returned home that night, or had the prescience to call a friend or the police in escorting her home, maybe even to take the children to her friend's house (in light of the dead doll photo unsettling her).

Good analysis. I felt like, when FBI Agent Coder repeatedly asked Chris "who are you worried about," he was testing whether Chris would say his wife and kids. Of course he never did. Also, to your point about people placating the lies of others in regular day-to-day interactions, you could even see this principle at work with Shanaan's friend, her son, and the neighbor just after the cops arrived on the scene. They all knew Chris was lying, but - as you would expect - no one was quite prepared to confront Chris directly about it.

I've just figured out why I find you & your toutube channel interesting & intriguing. You are an expert in narration. Good Luck with that! A lot to do.
