Jan 6 Judges clearly favored Yuna Kim and have treated her differently from the rest.
I actually heard somewhere that Koreans gave Canada large amount of $ for Yuna Kim to win gold in 2010 Olympics.

Mao is definitely good skater but she has some weakness in jump.
1.She leans her body forward too much, so speed slow down. It make her jump quality lower.
2.She take too much time between mohawk turn and flip jump.
If she want to prove goe , she have to fix these things.

I think everyone should watch Mao Asada's 2010 performances at Nagoya and Paris. That is what the 2010 World Champion has turned into. Shameful.
Mao was better when she was young. Now, her body is so stiff and landing is very unstable. Not to mention her performance is all about the triple axel. Except for the jump Yuna didn't make, there is a huge quality difference between those two skaters. Before the Olympic, Mao's average score, or personal best was way below than other top skaters. 2010 world is the only game Mao did pretty ok without falls, but I don't know why Japanese still has a hope for this skater.

triple axel.. most difficulty jump however she always had downgrade w/ dat jump. and in sprial, doesn't matter if its bent legs of straight legs. the important thing is the speed and the air position of how it flows
i thought yuna's sit spin was the proper one too, cause of the word 'sit' that kinda implies that it's 90 degrees bended knees and not less then it as in mao's case. anyone to clarify this with?
where is it continued??? and how are these points unfair...? Mao's 2nd triple axel was slightly two footed and she lost points for that and Yuna lost points for falling and earned no points for the failed jumps...You might think(some people do) a triple axel should be worth more than a 3-3 combo, but it doesn't...I believe the judges were more strict at worlds than at the olympics.... but Yuna program earned close to 150 at the olympics... here she got 131...she lost 19 points

Transition doesn't mean just body movement.(that is colser to choreography)
It is about foot step + upper body movement before elements(jump, spin, step sequence). It is hard to understand about transition with this clips. How about to watch whole program.
Transition means, for example
1. Some steps + jump
2. ina bauer + jump
3. spread eagle + jump
So, if you want to understand about transition, you have to watch all of it.
also you should show the entire performance of the two.
i dont think its a legit "analysis" if you chop up their performances and put them side by side...i mean the steps in between matter too, and the overall feeling you get from watching the whole thing and bits of it is totally different.

there are indeed elements such as the spins and spirals that Mao is really good at ... But what Yuna managed to do is to put together a beautiful program and sold it real well throughout the season so the judges are going in with some preconceptions, I have to say ... but jump GOE wise, I would have to say that Yuna's air positions and speed and landing makes a lot of difference if you see them all live as I did in LA ... otherwise I might not know the difference.
Yuna did, mao came second, the reason for that is because yuna skate faster than mao and her step sequence was way more complex. Mao also messed up her triple toe loop and triple flip.

It's difficult to take a side when watching this video. While I think it is extremely helpful and well produced, I just don't know about trusting the information. why did you put a question mark in for one of yu na's transitions? the preformed move was just choreography. meant to look pretty, increase character. I don't know. I do like Mao more than Yu Na, and I think Mao should have won, but I think you just have to take this info with a grain of salt.

Nah, Yuna Kim is the best.
I think, from artistic standpoint, the difference between Yuna and Mao is that Yuna has a theme when she skates. A sexy flirty bond girl in her SP, and then she turns into a beautiful 'fairy' on her LP. I don't really get that kind of feel in Mao's skating. Also, in Mao's' program, it's the same music repeating over and over, whereas for Yuna, the feel of music changes throughout her program, and she brings out different emotions as the music changes. It's just my opinion. : )

Mao lacks in terms of art and choreography. Perhaps Yuna made several mistakes, but her overall jumping techniques and performance surpass Mao... (Note that I'm not a fan of either Mao or Yuna.
Yuna's fall was only a 3.00 deduction with a base value of about 4 so she still got 1 point. Her double axel that she singled doesn't have any value or deduction. That's another reason why Yuna's score was still better. Also Mao's 3A was downgraded.

Haha, this video is funny. In fact Yuna fans could make similar videos with falls and miss-steps of Mao in competition too. But the truth is as long as Yuna is on top form, Mao can never beat Yuna no matter how well Mao does. It was true in the past and even more true in the future. Yuna haters (mostly Japanese) believe they know skating better than most former world champions, commentators from TV stations all over the world. Just unbelievable !

I am so tired of (some) people thinking that Mao should get more points because she lands triple axels... I'll admit it's AMAZING that she can do triple axels... and maybe triple axel should be worth more points... but my question is this: How come Mao doesn't just do triple lutz-triple toe combination like Yuna since it's sooooo much easier and worth more than the triple axels? I mean she does want to earn more points and win, right? simple solution.

I thought this is what strictly Koreans with Kim Yuna do, this is at least what I have seen and it is, to be honest, very sad. Mao's style and technique in general are far more refined and complex than Kim's (see prizes) and you can appreciate this anywhere, not just this video -if you are realistic-. I honestly hope to not see bribes (as sadly often from South Korea) behind the Yuna's Olympic gold if I try to find it out. What I know is: she is good but not better than average.

first of all to all japanese and yuna haters, yuna's jump is 10 times better than mao's. yuna has the speed and the height and the distance that she covers while jumping is huge, not comparable to mao. that is why yuna gets lots of goe and that is why yuna is getting high scores. it is never overrated.
Yuna's artistry conquers Mao's technicality. Mao is just no where near as good as Yuna and you hear the Legendary skaters and announcers speak of it enough. This is coming down to a South Korea v. Japan competition. Not between skaters. As an American I can say that Yuna is a much better skater and has the scores to prove it. I have nothing agains Japan. In fact Midori Ito is still one of my favorite skaters of all time. No one can match her triple. Not even Mao. Ito's height is incredible

Really? Japan owns 80% of ISU sponsorships. Have been for nearly 2 decades. South Korea barely has any footing and Yuna is the first and only skating phenom came out of Korea. How is it possible to fix score? ISU even changed the scoring system in favor of Mao Asada after Vancouver Olympics. That's the power of Japan's lobbying on ISU. South Korea has zero lobbying power.
Unfortunately, Japanese skate union is not sufficient than you think. Indeed, Japanese technical judge,Akira Amano judged Mao's underloatation at SA, NHK and GPF. As your indication, japanese corporation occupied ISU's sponsor. But Maruhan and Lotte's founder is korean , so it is not correct strictly. I like Yuna's skating, but her score is sometimes odd to me. For example, Vancouver, her GOE is higher than Purusienko without 4jump and 3A. I know her performance in Vancouver was so stunning, but her score is too high, just my impression. I check Yuna's performance in Korea, SP. Her performance is good, but in spite of her mistake, her score is over 80…. How do you think? If she success 4jump or 3A, it is understandable and I respect her truthfully. I think Yuna's fan hope high score too much. If Yuna fail in Sochi, do you quit her fan? Of course the answer is not, isn't it? Anyway I wish her best performance in Sochi with proper score.
rawshika cheb What is proper? Is there exact science to scoring? No. Part of it is very subjective. Same judges judges both skaters. Why they'd favor one over the other? Is there concrete evidence that Judge was bribed? With what money? Starting out Mao was much better funded than Yuna. She didn't have money to buy kind of clothing Mao has. Yes Lotte and Maruhan founders are Korean but they are but two sponsors. Rest are all Japanese. And they have enough lobbying power to change judging criteria.
When talking about Mao, or Pluchenko, all I hear about is the jumps. 3A. Mao's entire strategy and prowess (as great of skater she is) is relied soley on that. Yuna has the speed, the air, artistry, musicality and her 3F3T as a combo isn't any easier than Mao's 3A2T combo (which is not changed to get more scores with Japanese lobbying).
Yuna also did clean skating for her SP for her most recent performance in Korea, which is why she got 80. I don't know what clips you saw. She made mistakes on her LP. Which is why her total scores still fell short despite a record breaking SP score.
Needless to say, I bilieve there's no fraud with Yuna, Mao and other skaters. I just wonder current judge standard, especially GOE. As your indication, GOE is based on judge's impression without concrete evidence. So, whole figure skating judgement become confuse so much. For example, in all Japan championship, in last December, Akiko Suzuki won Mao with high score, about 214. Akiko play without mistakes but she doesn't success 3L3T or 3F3T like Yuna. I respect Akiko,but I can't celebrate her truthfully….
Just my impression, ISU old score standard is more clear than current standard. I know the old standard had many problem but it was still simple. And my impression too, Yuna's fan strain at her high score so much. Yuna lookslike more conservative after Vancouver. Why Yuna doesn't try to 3A or 4a? You know her ability is so high. If she hesitate to new challenge, she may be afraid her failure so much, just my assumption. I know you are real Yuna's fan, so I ask you, if Yuna lose other skater, do you quit her fan or look down on her?

This is ridiculous!! its true mao skated better this time...and she DID win! Why's there a dispute? In fact, i realized that no matter when i paused the vid, Yu-Na always has a better air position and the flow she has is unmatched - probably why she gets higher GOE. No offense, whoever made this isnt doing the best job proving his/her point. It only brings out Yu-Na's superior artistry and shows the totally different level she's on - even when she's at her worst, she's only just short of BEST~=)

a sit spin is supposed to be as low as possible in other words deep. And its allowed to hold your leg as it really doesn't do much its just a habit. It showed everything Yu-Na did and it was clear the Mao was better in this performance

確かにキム選手の点数はちょっと高かったと思いますが、浅田選手だって異常に点数高い時もあったと思います。だいたいフィギュアの選手がこの二人だけでもないし、特定選手とわざわざ比較することって、浅田選手のためにもならないと思いますよ。こんなの作ってる時間に次の競技の応援でもしてください。
