Is Vietnam the Next China?

  • As dawn breaks over Ho Chi Minh City, its vibrant streets teem with activity, mirroring Shenzhen's early 1990s transformation. With a population exceeding 100 million, Vietnam is emerging as a manufacturing powerhouse, reminiscent of Guangdong's rise, driven by strategic economic reforms and a young, dynamic workforce. In contrast, China's vast GDP and industrial output position it as a global economic giant, yet it faces challenges like an aging population and rising labor costs. Vietnam's lower labor costs and strategic location attract significant foreign investment, particularly in textiles and electronics, while China's focus shifts to high-tech industries and domestic consumption. Politically, China's centralized governance contrasts with Vietnam's socialist-oriented market economy, both fostering stability and growth through different models. Geopolitically, China's assertive actions in the South China Sea and its Belt and Road Initiative mark its global influence, whereas Vietnam balances ties with major powers and strengthens regional partnerships. Despite bureaucratic and infrastructural challenges, Vietnam's integration into global supply chains and favorable trade agreements propel its economic ascent. Both nations face unique challenges and opportunities, with their trajectories poised to significantly impact regional and global economic dynamics. After seeing how powerful China is, many Westerners go crazy and always think that there is a country that can replace China. In the past, Westerners liked to say that India was the next China, but now it is Vietnam? How did China become the world's second largest economy? If measured in terms of purchasing power, China's GDP has surpassed that of the United States. Do many Westerners know that China has the most complete industrial categories in the world? China is the world's largest industrial and manufacturing country. Vietnam? Vietnam relies on help from China even for electricity. China ranks first in the world in electric power.

    Vietnam is grappling with a significant challenge: a severe electricity shortage. Without a reliable power supply, industrial production comes to a standstill. To address this, Vietnam urgently needs to expand its nuclear power capacity. In comparison, China's electricity output is twice that of the USA, while Vietnam's output is merely a fraction of China's, at just 1/30th of its neighbor's capacity. To bridge this gap, Vietnam's energy infrastructure requires significant investment and development, which will likely take at least 50 years to reach parity with China's current capabilities."

      AI robotic machinery, market size, and energy infrastructure play a key role in future growth for a country. Educated and skilled workers will play a key role in manufacturing, and factory baseline workers may be replaced by AI robots. That is, population size will not play a significant role, and university education needs to be upgraded to adapt to the high-tech production transformation.

    • @hoangngoc2905
      @hoangngoc2905 4 дні тому

      The USA doesn't care about dictator or not. It just care about its hegemony. China is threatening its position as the No 1 economy of the world, just as the USSR and Japan did in the past.
      The USA could defeat Japan by using China, South Korea, and Taiwan to erode away Japan's comparative advantages, as China, South Korea, and Taiwan in combination could provide everything Japan could with lower price.
      Now the USA just doesn't care at all what label Vietnam should have. It needs Vietnam now to erode away China's advantages. Vietnam alone cannot do that, but it is surely included in the USA's scheme, together with many other countries.
