    I learned more from watching your video than I have learned from any foreman I have worked with before. I have been working construction for 5 years now and everytime I asked someone information about blue prints I would always get turned away. I've built all this before. After watching your video it finally clicked in my head. Thank you. I will pass this video on to my friends.

I am a foreman for a union metal stud framing outfit in Alaska. I don't keep my team in the dark at all, in fact the opposite. I am also determined to sharper than I was the day before.

    Great informative video, thank you for sharing. How do you go about connecting the tracks to the sheet roof?

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  Рік тому

      We will use self taping framing screws, wafer heads to the qdeck, and we use clips if the track lands in between them, use self tapers to attach the clips and then we can use regular framing screws to fasten to to clip (for light gauge steel). If it's concrete or structural steel we use the Hilti BX3.

      Yes I think what your asking is about staggering where the sheets land on either side of the wall. you want to make sure the bevels (sheets) don't land on the same studs. For example: Side A we will start with a 16" strip then full sheet and Side B we start with a 32" pc so that the joints are staggered. Hope thats it bro!

    What methods are available in attaching/connecting pre-sheathed 8'w x 10't steel stud walls, vertically from 1st floor to 2nd floor & 2nd floor to 3rd floor ? Sheer cassettes are already built into our wall panels.

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  4 місяці тому

      Yeah, I'm not a fan of this method, panels are a real pain in the butt. However, after the panel is in place we just drill 1/4" to 3/4" bolts or rod into the concrete and fasten down nut and washer. 9/16" to 3/4" #8 or #10 hex self tapers for the top if steel or just hammer drill if concrete like the bottom. If it's suspended outside like curtain wall you need to pre-install clips with hitting shots or pin boots then 4 screws into a stud.

    Great video quick question my plans say to extend the wall 6 inches above the ceiling why is that? Is it so you stop with the t bar and then do separate rooms or is it for soundproof or fireproof? Can you let me know? Thank you.

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  6 місяців тому +1

      Great question, it's just a reference that your walls only have to be 6 inches above tbar and not all the way to the deck. So say tbar is at 9 foot you can use 10 foot studs for the walls, it doesn't have to be exact just a minimum of 6imches. Drywall too, technically your walls will be at 10' 1/2" so you can keep your drywall a 1/2" off the floor and use 10' sheets or cut your sheets to 9' 6" .

      You can get track that bends now. Draw the circle on the floor even if its a finished floor just tape down some hard board and draw on that. Then make the top and bottom track, forming it to that circle. Then laser up with a couple pin lasers 2 opposite edges to install the top track. Set a line laser to elevation and check your stud lengths, cut them, install a few to get the bottom track on (still checking with the pin lasers that it lines up with the top. After that just finish studding it out and then wrap with 1/4" or 1/2" drywall.

      Yes grab some furring bar, run 3 rows (rule is braces every 4x4sq area) equal distance apart and make sure to attach it to every stud on both sides of the furring bar (2 screws every stud) make sure it literally runs end to end screwed into the track either end and also screwed together, then shoot kickers up to the ceiling every 4' staggered on those runs. You should be able to hang off it with no movement.

    • @ConstructionKronies

    Is that the metal roof that the top track is screwed into asking for a friend 😅

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  2 місяці тому

      No we wouldn't screw to a metal roof, what that is -- is metal decking we call qdeck it goes below the roof or is used between floors. Sometimes filled with concrete if between floors. When it's on the roof the next layer will be roof board, rigid insulation and so on depending on if it's sbs, modified or metal standing seam. It's I think 18 gauge usually so use heavy gauge self taping screws.

  • @RICHARDRIMMER-cn7tu
    @RICHARDRIMMER-cn7tu 11 місяців тому +2

    So the corrugated metal roof decking you chose to “shoot” into instead of a self tapping screw was sufficient support for top track, is it common to be able to make protrusions into the roof decking? I have to frame some walls in a commercial application and I’m more of a residential contractor, Thanks!

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  11 місяців тому

      Yes, so it's actually not corrugated roofing panels, it's qdeck. On top of the deck there will be another 8" at least of material before the gravel or sbs. Only shoot to qdeck when it is full of concrete. We use heavy gauge framing screws to screw the track to it. Hope that helps my man!

    By code can you use it Stud Crimper or you need to use only screws?

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  Рік тому

      I don't believe it is code. What you need to know is if it is in the construction specifications either in the contract documents (drawings, specifications) or product details. They will tell you what type to use and where to use them. If it is not specified I would say use what you want. At the end of the day the drywall will hold it all together if your screws are in the right spot. I think it is industry best practice to at least screw 1 side in and crimp the backs, I know guys who crimp only the top back. If you can keep studs proper on center, and square go for it. We screw them in always so its faster to drywall and better to tape and so on. Its important to have square studs and screw the soft side in the bevel first. That way the sheets won't pop out and give your walls humps.

      I use Adobe Acrobat for everything now. I used to use Nitro PDF before I started editing video but having the creative Cloud apps Acrobat Pro is included and really great stuff. nitro has more estimating tools tho.

    Hi, what gauge steel is recommended for residential ceilings?

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  Рік тому

      25 gauge, you can use 3-5/8", 6" studs and track or 25 gauge furring bar and angle depending on your clearance.

    What is your ceiling attachment detail for the top track of the hulk head to the roof? You’re not screwing into the ceiling panels are you?
    Serious question, not a critiquing tone, just super curious

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  Місяць тому

      Yes we screw the top track to the q deck if it's hollow or shoot it with direct fastening tool like hilti or ramset if it's filled with concrete. The roof itself will start 3 to 6" above the top flute so you never have to worry about holes in it.

      That could depend on many factors, but if you can complete 10 feet an hour, you are doing well.

    why can't we build houses like this?!

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies  Рік тому +1

      Ive done 3 houses with steel, we are working on one right now. Will be back on that job next week. They still aren't doing it right but if I was designing it I would do it like we do in commercial for sure. We talk about this a lot. I have tried to educate the builders on how to do it proper but they keep going back to panels and it doesn't work with panels. (Pre built 10x10 sections)
