I’m coming out of a church where they constantly tell me to examine myself for sin. It’s caused so much anger in me focusing myself. I need to come back to the simplicity of faith and learn all over again how to keep my eyes on Jesus.
Amen. Great message. It happens so easily to get swept away by feelings. Sometimes I think it's the enemy that attacked me over night maybe or just the flesh. But either way, I learned to just disregard my feelings. Every time some feeling condemns me in some way, I cast it off knowing that it goes against the Word, against the gospel. Against who I am in Christ. If I went with my feelings every time they tell me something, I would be a total wreck. That's why we have to renew our mind because it's so ingrained to go by feelings. The worst is when people put their assurance of salvation on an emotional experience that they consider repentance based on its false definition. I was attacked through that false definition for quite some time.
I literally wrote almost this same teaching today to share with my kids. I’ve heard so many people talking about their loved ones and how they are hoping so much they were saved because they had a profession of faith but they were still sinning or so immature. And today my daughter’s boyfriend jokingly said to me that someone wasn’t holy enough. And I was like. I’ll joke about a lot but not this. And went off on him about if someone is in Christ they have His holiness and that’s the only holy they are going to get. So I feel like the spirit is moving in giving you this message as I have been given the same one today. Praise God. M Have missed you. Been praying for you and the fam.

Listened to this three times at work today. Great message. This topic has historically been my biggest stumbling block and how the enemy has gotten to me the most. I confess and do not deny that the Gospel is true, God's word is true, Christ is Who He says He is, He did all the work to justify me apart from any works of my own in His death, burial and resurrection according to the Scriptures. I cannot deny it, therefore, I believe and I'm saved. End of story, case closed. No one told me this in all my years of wallowing in my own works and navel-gazing and fluffing around in absolute fear constantly examining myself for some evidence I was saved. I remind myself that God took good pleasure in saving us and knew His plan of salvation before the foundation of the world. Our flesh, the enemy, and the world does not want us to be comforted with the assurance of salvation. I like how DB talks about agreeing with God's judgment of our flesh in several videos. Once I saw this truth I realized that I cannot get assurance from myself or from others. We have to reckon what God said in His word as true.

My family and I have been going thru some real struggles over the last few weeks. I watched DB's "Hiding in Christ...." video that you referenced and it really washed and encouraged me with truth. I know that there is nothing I can do to fix things and I can rest in Christ and His finished work and positional truth. It reminds me of 2 Corinthians 12:9 (And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." "Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.")
It is almost like a paradox, I agree with what you say. If I look to myself at my own sins and not look at Christ, I will be stuck in that mess and never be with Jesus in the spirit. Thank you Dave for the refresher.

I was into “anti-woke” stuff at the time, and he was criticizing the them as well as other people I didn’t like. Anyway, he had one of those “I was the worst sinner that ever sinned until Jesus showed up to me” teachers, which now I look back on with suspicion. He also thought Charles Stanley was a “free gracer.” 😂
We are reading through Luke and after listening to your video I thought of a verse where Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 - The heart is the seat of your mind, your will, and your emotions is what I have understood. Glad to hear from you, know you are busy and have been praying for your family.
That's fine but if you rely on it then he will teach you most likely by withholding that feeling then what are you going to do? A lot of believers start up full of feelings and then as God starts to prune that back. All those superficial things so that you can grow roots in the faith they panic. Sometimes that panic can last a couple years. If they don't learn to disregard their feelings and go by the facts.

Now the issue is without the truth of Christ, Buddhist teachings only lead to disillusionment and obscurity. But once I received the word, that practice of only focusing on the present moment *when contextualized by the word* has become very useful as a means of walking in the spirit now, being free from condemnation of my past and anxiety of the future. past: "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" future: "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." PRESENT: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." EDIT: To clarify this point in regards to this video: I think a lot of people's struggle with assurance of salvation comes down to looking at their past for evidence they are saved instead of renewing their mind by looking to the word NOW. We have liberty in Christ. We are no longer alive to the law or sin. We are dead to the law and sin, but alive unto Christ.
With faith is Christ Jesus comes true repentence, and with that repentence comes outward change in ones life. Also with repentence God will bless you but on His own time, as well leaving willing sin behind just improves your life anyways. Emotion can be powerful for me during prayer, but not always and I defer to my faith in Christ when im happy or furious. People will search here and there, and close by, and far off, but won't simply recieve the sign of Jonah that has already been given. They rely on their physical senses and feelings, other people's affirmations, their works or willinglingness to do works, or some kind of direct sign from God; I myself have gone through this a time ago; but they don't look to Jesus Christ, nor His words which He promised would never pass away, nor His blood, nor His ressurection, nor who He said He is; and it causes a lot of confusion, anxiety, condemnation, and death.
I want to be bold and clearly state this for those who have struggled with porn. This may be graphic to some. I'm a freelance artist who creates work that some may consider "not very Christian-like". Drawing has been my passion since childhood, and it just so happens that I've found a way to make good money to afford my bills. I'm already deeply involved in this kind of stuff and I can't turn back, believe it or not. Crazy, right? Yet, I don’t feel condemned but when I do, I remind myself that Christ is my life, and through Him, I am a son and heir. I'm thankful knowing I have everything in Him, regardless of what I do or feel. I'm not comfortable sharing this to be honest with you but felt like I have to. Hope this is clear 👍 That being said, I’m not suggesting that you should go out and do it. My point is that, as we’ve learned, we all need to focus on Christ rather than on ourselves. They rely on their physical senses and feelings, other people's affirmations, their works or willinglingness to do works, or some kind of direct sign from God; I myself have gone through this a time ago; but they don't look to Jesus Christ, nor His words which He promised would never pass away, nor His blood, nor His ressurection, nor who He said He is; and it causes a lot of confusion, anxiety, condemnation, and death.
I want to be bold and clearly state this for those who have struggled with porn. This may be graphic to some. I'm a freelance artist who creates work that some may consider "not very Christian-like". Drawing has been my passion since childhood, and it just so happens that I've found a way to make good money to afford my bills. I'm already deeply involved in this kind of stuff and I can't turn back, believe it or not. Crazy, right? Yet, I don’t feel condemned but when I do, I remind myself that Christ is my life, and through Him, I am a son and heir. I'm thankful knowing I have everything in Him, regardless of what I do or feel. I'm not comfortable sharing this to be honest with you but felt like I have to. Hope this is clear 👍
That being said, I’m not suggesting that you should go out and do it. My point is that, as we’ve learned, we all need to focus on Christ rather than on ourselves. We should recognize that our old selves are dead and that we are alive in Christ. Give thanks and rejoice!
