Diesel is €1.77 here in Ireland at the moment, great video as always guys, its amazing how some people feel they can lecture others on things like fuel for your home, but don't have a clue what fuel they themselves are using.
Well, Vera don't worry about turning off procedures. A lot of us just learned that from Christian. I think that turning off procedures needs it's own video description. Even if you had electric fans since the water pump stops when the engine is off, it doesn't help cooling down the engine. So best case scenario you are cooling down the radiator water. I think it is a German thing, 😉 I never heard of it either.
The advice I had was to let the turbo cool down and don't switch off imediately after a hard run - where I live I am a mile or two from the motorway, so a gentle run the last couple of miles helps to cool things down a little before switching off.
At the end of the video I thought it was Christian on the bike, such a talented family. I bet if you have a cat it plays the piano!!!! Christian and Vera you will never have a boring video and I think you two need your own TV program, Sunday evening is great with a video from you both.many thanks!!🙂🙂
Some poor schmuck is out somewhere in the hinterlands right now trying to get his LR3 started. After trying everything he can think of to get it running, he’s becoming frustrated but is still undeterred. As the afternoon light fades to twilight he continues faithfully looking for the answer to why is beloved LR won’t go. Then just as he is about to give up, he notices something and smiles as he finally detects the problem. Then with the last remaining light, he works furiously to connect the all the reds to black. Priceless.
Another entertaining video from you both and I, like most people, know how to turn the air conditioning off on a hot day ....... but will do it properly now that Christian has told us the correct way!
You folks do nice work, Christian that "waterproof switch housing" was really something special, Vera, all those containers for your gear. You guys work hard to heat your home for winter cutting all that wood. Living in the tropics and having pretty much the same temperatures all year round it's hard to get my head around the extra cost and effort you must go through. Video was not at all boring Christian, see you late next Sunday night. Oh, thank you also for the converted fuel prices, I don't feel so hard done by now paying what we're paying.
No, there are MANY drivers who just turn the engine off. It's not widely known, I can assure you. The same way as they turn the engine on and drive like hell the next second. Don't believe that every driver is a mechanic like you and me. Congrats again!
Agh!. 8 moths late in getting to watch this. Love it as usual. Diesel here in country Victoria, Australia at the moment is A$2.35/L. As someone who cuts their own heating wood i appreciate the effort. Well done guys. Mind you we pay A$140/M2 for River Red Gum split and delivered and it burns beautifully with virtually no ash, much better than our local general eucalyptus. And as someone who is TOTALLY mystified by electronics well done Christian. Admiration mate.
I had a German Diesel Rabbit for almost 5 years. It used to aggravate my passengers, but I would always run the engine at increased idle for 3 or 4 minutes after a long trip before shutting it off. This was according to the VW owner's manual. Christian, your tool and die making skills always impress me, as do Vera's sewing and organizational skills!
Oh the serenity! So much organisation, I need this in my life. Love your work guys. 👍😁 Philip is so good at the BMX I'm sure he learned from Christian 🤣
Hello, vera and christian, I'm more of a jeepist, however my 1st generation wrangler is a bit too small to make an overlander, yes, I bought a land rover LR3 to transform it into an overlander and I like all the videos that have been put online by you, you do a great job, thank you very much. greetings from Switzerland.
Yup, Christian & Vera, Germany, the country where you have to justify everything. What car you drive and if you really need such a big one. How you heat your house and why you chop the trees. Great day out. Keeps you in good shape.
Hello Alex, yes. Now lately we got now VSEBs in Darmstadt. That is something new. Very Serious E Bikers. The ones with this small license plate. The do about 40 km/h but ride in the middle of the road so that you cannot pass them without breaking the 1.5 meter distance law. And the third guy who asked me if I am allowed to cut wood got seriously yelled at by me. It was bad. 😬 Christian
Naa I just run mine cold and switch it off , I'm with Vera . Don't see many freecoaster hubs for bikes now , I built a wheel a couple of years ago with one for a friend.
Really entertaining again, very cheerful to watch, can’t tell about the airconditioning because I run a 1999 Defender 110 which is as Spartan as anybody can’t remember 🤪🤣 thanks for the laughter 🤘🏻
Another great video guys 👍 Vera you must be doing a lot of work outs with your ripped 6 pack…. Your in Great shape hauling all that timber. Christian I’ve said it before your attention to detail is amazing. Have a great week and hopefully see you again next Sunday.
I installed my winch primarily for recovery but also very useful for tree work. With chain saw, long pry bar, and shackles, straps we saved quite a bit on professional tree removal (not cheap).
I've been driving in Australia for over 40 years [and I am so tired! Boom boom] and never had an issue with the aircon. It's way too dry here on the West coast to worry about mould or condensation. I only discovered how to turn my aircon/cc OFF the other day! :-)
3 times actually, in our case. 😃👍 We let our firewood dry on the other end of our property (which is really big for Germany ), so I have to haul it to the house, and our proporty does have some steep sections.😅 🙋♀️Vera
Yeah, when he goes big, I have to hold my breaths 😅. Also, I am not allowed to talk when I film, because he loads up a compilation clip on Instagram every week, and you don't want your mothers voice in them. 🙋♀️Vera
Hi Christian and Vera, what a great video. How awesome getting all that wood. I solved the problem of cutting plastic with my soldering iron by having two, my wife takes one and I keep the better one clean :) On the electrical cabling, all the details I have read regarding the starting battery of the D3 and D4 is to not connect anything directly to the negative terminal, but stresses to use the earth bolts around the chassis. I look forward to your videos, vielen dank :D
Hi Cristian and Vera, several months after it was released, but better later when not. Enjoying your work together on your LRs. One comment: in the past I used to think that soldering is better than any crimp, until I found and tried crimps with built-in shrink and glue, fast very reliable and water proof. Happy new year
Philipp is a very talented stunt rider. Thank you for including clips of his riding at the bike park. I bet Vera is a nervous wreck watching him. Lol Now, if I buy a LR I will know how to properly turn off my vehicle here to prevent mold and condensation in the vent tubes. I guess no more complaining about our fuel prices here - $4.97 for premium gasoline & $5.20 for diesel when compared to Germany.
Hello Todd, Vera is unbelievable cool when she goes to the BMX park. I am the one who can’t go. It’s stressing me. Luckily we don’t have to drive long distances over here. Christian
Wow. Glad I stayed on until the end….. I have constantly left the a/c on every moment that the engine is running on every car since I started driving…… I wish I was joking
I always remember to turn off the A/C and put the heater on 🤥 (Good tip, Thanks). Your boy is good on that bike 😳 but he scares the life out of me 😬. Great Channel, Thanks for the vids 👍
Another goodie thank you...it is possible you may be contacted by Frankie On The Road....they have a little problem in Portugal with their VW...the local dealer has taken a month to say...sorry but 🙃...really nice people....fancy a trip 🤣
The AC compressor solenoid wire was backwards for me. Red was negative, black was positive. The aftermarket compressor however had the colours correct. Car that chooses the driver!
I was a lorry driver for 40+ years ( English for truck ) the main reason for letting a turbo diesel tick over for a few minutes is to let oil run though a hot turbo so as not to damage the seal and bearings, my house here in France is also heated by wood, most of the trees are given what we call a French haircut the main trunk is left and the branches are cut for fire wood, they soon grow back to be cut every 8-10 years.
They say that wood warms you twice once when you cut it and again when you burn it 👍 Vera was obviously getting a good work out loading the trailer. As for switching off procedures rev it to the red line hold it there and then switch it off 👍 Follow me for more useful tips 🤣😱😱😱 or maybe that's just for teenagers and their first car? See you next week and glad you finally got your wiring done.
You guys are pretty funny. Unfortunately we don’t get the diesel in Land Rovers in Canada. I love Land Rovers I just don’t know why. I had an LR2 realize it wasn’t aluminum like most Land Rovers. The ride quality and interior was terrrific but we had to get rid of it because my wife is short and has bad hips. We’ll see what the future holds.
The Ford Diesel engine is not very reliable anyhow. The petrol V8 is the better engine but not affordable in Germany. Greetings over to Canada - we spend a lot of time traveling there. Christian
I don't think your videos are boring. These kinds of chores like today are typical for all of us who modify our vehicles. You have a good mix of content between typical DIY stuff to the fancy machinist stuff. BTW, for the water-tight switch, did you consider 3D printing a case instead of machining that aluminum block? Cheers!
Never heard about running your heater after AC .. :) . And I read all owner manuals, must be a German thing. :) . I did do it one time, but to help with engine rising temp, while I was climbing a hill at 38 Celsius in 2 low for 1 h, and I was in - guess what ? - a Toyota.. :) . Those smart Japanese engineers program the AC to turn off automatically in extreme situations and all cooling is diverted towards the engine.
Good quality crimp is best. We found in motorcycle vibration that a soldered connection is too stiff and eventually brittle. Support all wires and support/cover connection with heat shrink. A professional coffee production would make a short break 😁
Christian do you have a winch blanket/damper? Always good practice to have one or better two to weigh down the winch cable just in case it breaks or hook pulls off. A lot of kinetic energy is stored in steel winch cable under load. Even with modern synthetic ropes it's advisable to use a winch blanket even though they don't have the weight of a steel cable. If you don't have any I'm sure Vera could make a couple with her skills at bag making. Stay safe
We have that covered. In one of our last videos, I think where we showed my bags, you can see have I 2 loops added to my recovery bag so we can hang it onto the cable, to weigh it down. 🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian that's good then, must have missed the part of the video where you mentioned that ☺️ My winch blanket is Bright orange perhaps that's something you can add to stop the e biker's running into your winch line 😃
Great video. We are paying $2.15AUD to $2.27AUD/l for diesel in Brisbane Australia. Costco is a little cheaper. If I do highway driving or off-roading, I let the engine run for 5 minutes or so before turning off. If I can drive at a moderate speed for the last 13 or 20 minutes of a long trip, then there is no need to let the engine run once you reach your destination. Your engine and especially the turbine will thank you if you let it cool down a bit before you turn the engine off. As far as the condensation in the air-conditioning goes, Setting it to 24°C or higher will minimise the condensation.
@@johnwillett4086 Dear for hear though. I was paying $1.63AUD early last week. I actually thought Australia was one of the dearer countries for fuel. I am certain either the fuel or the oil was based on whatever the price of oil is in Singapore. I would not like to be paying for petrol here though, It is ridiculously dear.
I had that confusing situation on a Vauxhall van here in the UK. I had to jump start it, going to the battery was a black cable and a brown cable. I wrongly assumed black was negative and brown was positive! Oh no Vauxhall decided black was positive and brown was negative, it all got quite spectacular when I connected the jumper cables! How crazy is it to go against traditional colour coding like that?
Yes I have also heard it’s important to not just turn off your a/c and engine as it can cause mold. But we do it here without thought here in the US. And Philip is amazing o. The BMX! Can you explain the “bmx track/park”, are they common in Germany who builds them? Local authority or private?
No, unfortunately, they are not that common and we have to travel far to go to another park. We are, however, extremely fortunate that we have a park like that close by. In the US, they are even more rare, as most parks are made for skateboards, and often BMX bikes are not allowed. We traveled to Vegas and California last summer, with his BMX bike, and finding BMX suitable parks was hard. You have Woodward, and a great one in San Diego, where he broke his hand. 🙄 Check out our travel video. 😃👍🙋♀️
Oh boy, hope you can get it fixed soon, it's getting hot here in Germany. 😃👍 That is something Christian would have to fix immediately on mine. 🙋♀️Vera
Just getting around to wiring up a split-charge system on my Disco' ('til now I just charge the 2nd battery at home) and, as an electrical engineer, I'm thinking it's easy to install it in a halfassed manner but much more fiddly to do it properly.
Dieselprice in Belgium is €1,904/liter today. Last week, it climbt up to €2,280/liter! but the government reduced the taxes on diesel and petrol at the moment.
Great vider, as always - thanks. 👍 Your Diesel is cheap! I paid £ 1.849L (= € 2.22) last week and £ 2.039L (= € 2.45) for V-Power. Not sure I like how you shrink your heat-shrink 😖 I use a hot air gun for shrinking heat-shrink and not a naked flame. 👍
Great video guys, my wife learned something today, with the running of the air-conditioning warm before you switch it off.. Her Range Rover used to smell like shreks Armpit when you switched the Ac on for the first 2 weeks of summer 🤣 good tip👍
HAHA, I'm sure all of us do the AC and heating procedure. :) maybe we need a small servo unit to press all the buttons automaticly when we get within 5mins form home.
Diesel is €1.77 here in Ireland at the moment, great video as always guys, its amazing how some people feel they can lecture others on things like fuel for your home, but don't have a clue what fuel they themselves are using.

I wrongly assumed black was negative and brown was positive! Oh no Vauxhall decided black was positive and brown was negative, it all got quite spectacular when I connected the jumper cables!
How crazy is it to go against traditional colour coding like that?
The Vaux Engineer should watch the video too 😂. Christian
Warm up idle when cold , idle when warm to cool down , I have no issue with my Aircon in LR4 it’s broken 😁
Most difficult is to find a good easy accessible route for the wires.. easy accessible is not compatible with a Disco 3/4 unfortunately ..
Dieselprice in Belgium is €1,904/liter today. Last week, it climbt up to €2,280/liter! but the government reduced the taxes on diesel and petrol at the moment.
Now that is expensive 😳😳😳. Even more than here. Christian
I don’t have to worry about such things, my Prius turns the engine on and off as it thinks necessary.
No worries.
LOL 👍
Maybe adding a auxiliary automotive fuse box that can help with cable management and wiring or is that not TUV approved?
Great vider, as always - thanks. 👍
Your Diesel is cheap! I paid £ 1.849L (= € 2.22) last week and £ 2.039L (= € 2.45) for V-Power.
Not sure I like how you shrink your heat-shrink 😖 I use a hot air gun for shrinking heat-shrink and not a naked flame. 👍
I have never watch swim suit logging before 🤷
😂😂😂 Good one. It was hot in that evening sun. Christian
maybe we need a small servo unit to press all the buttons automaticly when we get within 5mins form home.
Yes great idea, I want that too. 😃👍🙋♀️Vera
In the UK I saw diesel here £1.70 per litre.
I have a request, can you show how to service or repair webasto :) if it's possible
That looks like a nice crimping tool Christian, what is it?
Oh it's out our time when we lived in the US. 🙋♀️
10 bucks a gallon? Holy crap!
Great video as usual but Sodering is American, in the UK its Soldering. with an 'L' 👍🇬🇧🇩🇪
American English works for us, we lived in Michigan for 9 years👍🙋♀️Vera
