    Yes, it is true. Our Land Rover Discovery needs more repair work than some other vehicles but typically the jobs are easy and done in 1/2 a day. This does not make it a bad vehicle - it makes it a affordable vehicle. See how Vera and I go about such a repair. There are worse things in live. Our videos have no educational "how too" charactore unless you want to know how to work on a car with your wife without approaching a divorce. We hope you like the video. ,

      Sorry for that. I know the audio was not so good in the beginning of the vid. Sound is a tough topic to get right. Plus, what Land Rover owner would not prefer wheel bearing noise over some boring music, right?

    It's not good to see people using their fists as a hammer on the spanner, if it's tight use a longer series spanner, a breaker bar or a hide faced or rubber mallet, your hands will be destroyed when you are older 👍🏼😷

    Hi Guys, love your videos, you two are such fun to watch.
    We have travelled all the way up through Africa in our Discovery 3 that is seriously set up for over landing and is very heavy because of it. We also towed a 1,500kg trailer behind us.
    In terms of wheel bearings on our car, the very best are Timkin bearing. We have over 50,000km on ours and they are still going strong. If I have to replace our in the future, I will use Timkin bearings again. And, oh yes, we have been through deserts, rivers and completed the notorious Van Zyls Pass in Namibia.
    Keep up the good work guys. It's such fun watching you adventures. Ivan

    Genuine (Timken inside) or Timken OEM only. Or SNR probably (if still use Timken bearings). SKF have changed two years ago from Timken bearing component to "Made in China". GSP will not work properly as well.

He made threads and covered channel with brake fluid flush port from the brake support. It would be interesting if you can repeat this idea, test easiest tools available for this and give feedback on modification if succes/fail.

    Great to watch you guys, i watch for the interaction between you two as much as for the content, i own a 2001 Defender 90 Td5, as i'm now 50yrs old i was thinking about replacing it with a D3 for more comfort which is how i found your channel, i was searching for videos of how hard/easy it is to repair a D3, i'm very hands on and can fix my Defender no problem but i have seen loads of horror stories about having to take the body off to do the simplest of engine repairs and didn't fancy that, but by watching your channel i have seen that most of the repairs can be done as long as your willing to take your time and use a little ingenuity. Thanks for your content and keep up the good work guys.

    I found this video after I commented yesterday on a video you made later the next year ( May '21) my comment was about wheel bearings and the extra load certain things put on the vehicle. And my comment was about changing the bearing and or whole hub, now I know what the answer is lol you change the whole bloody thing! What an expense rather than disassembling the hub from the bearing then taking the bearing out of the hub a lot more work but far more UA-cam content for your channel lol. Hi. Please replace your oil pump housing to the stronger version if you haven’t yet, I was about to change the cam belts in a few weeks as the timing belt was due. My engine has now destroyed it self. Not happy. The engine now needs to be replaced. Lots of money. The original oil pump housing is weak and breaks the cam tensioner pulley into itself. You can just drive the Rhine road - you can see at least three castles all the tme - when one goes out of view, another one comes into view. I love driving that road every time I drive back to England, I join the east bank road near Wiesbaden and drive as far as I can before we have to leave to get the ferry in Calais - we normally get as far as Koblenz. But I do like castles further up, like Drakenfels (I went there on a school trip in the 1960s).

Many people watch the televised Tour de France every evening (Australian time,) just to watch the superb French countryside flowing past them. Yes, OK, the cycling is good as well, particularly your German heroes Tony Martin, Buchmann et al. Well done. I enjoy your work so much!!

    Oh my tomorrow (Monday) I am scheduled with an appointment to take ours (LR3) in to our friendly local mechanic to change the wheel bearings on both sides
    of the front. Id been noticing a lot of road noise and lately has become woo woo woo woo. I thought the road noise was the rugged looking tires my wife picked a year and a half ago
    and then recently i thought the tires need rotating..finally my somewhat worn brain remembered we had been through this before.
    Some three years ago we changed the Wheel bearing on one side..I used a good non OEM.. Now the mechanic said its a wheel bearing. Ive decided to do both
    so that I can get some quiet in the car again. I'm not sure which has failed but will find out tomorrow..the non OEM with 30k Miles (unlikely)
    or the original on the other side for 190,000 miles. He got me the OEM Timken for a good price but unlike the original Timken are I think no longer made in USA.
    Also with that many miles its been suggested we use Royal Purple Synthetic Engine Oil which costs so much more than the Synthetic Pensoil but we want this thing to last.
    What a beautiful job you did on the undercoat paint job..goodness gracious.Wonderful videos.Thank you.

      @Vera_and_Christian  3 роки тому

      Wow, is this true? My Hayes manual says 230, which is kind of low and this may be the reason why my halfshaft was not stuck at all. I also remember when I opened them the first time a few years back, I needed a way bigger impact gun from my friend. What manual do you use?
      I found other wrong torque settings in the Hayes manual before.
      ...I still got to remove the wheel to mount the wear sensor which I forgott (and saw it while editing the video...) - then I can increase the torque. Thanks for this feedback.

      @@garystuart226 before i bought the 4.4 v8 i watched a lot of videos and reviews. It turned out that I should not go for the diesel but for the petrol V8. The engine is much more reliable than the diesel engine and has much more power. But also consumes much more of course. Mine runs on LPG, and I can refuel fairly cheaply in Belgium (0.35 cents / liter). I even live in the south of the Netherlands. Anyway, I only had it for 2 months and so far very satisfied.

      @@garystuart226 It's no problem Gary.
      My mileage would work out to 13-15 mpg. Ours is just straight gas, as we overland and LPG is nearly impossible to find in Northern Canada, not to mention the problem of storing extra fuel, and the weight of the tanks. Our LPG prices here are around .90cents/litre. Our petrol is 1.10. Even if we stayed near town, it wouldn't make sense to convert.
      The timing components do wear, but both of our 4.4Ls(LR3 and Range Rover HSE) are close to 240,000 km all original except for the cooling system parts I mentioned above. The problem ones where the 2005 and older Range Rovers with the BMW 4.4. All LR3s and the Range Rover from 2006 and newer had the Jaguar engine. The BMW is not bad, but they had vanos and guide issues. They also had some sump issues, and the water cooled alternator was occasionally an issue.
      Yes the 5L supercharged engine in the later years did have some timing chain guide issues, as well as the early LR4 Ranger Rover sports with the 5L.

    These cars are heavy and eat these wheel bearings around 80k miles. I replaced with cheap ones at 70k miles one failed at 100k miles, went with the OEM unit the other cheap bearing is still going strong. Depending on where you purchased the expensive bearing it could have been counterfeit. Your truck is so much cleaner and less rusty than mine. The bearings do not come off so easily on cars in the eastern US. FYI your torque specs on the caliper bracket(or anchor plate as LR refers to it) are wrong, I saw those posted online and checked, Land rover says 115nm.

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  3 роки тому

      I'm sorry but I think you're torque spec is for the Rear anchor plate mounting bolt. The Land Rover manual and Hayes manual match on the anchor plate / caliber mounting bracket torque specs for the Front. We have both manuals, and both state 275 Nm for the Front, just checked them again. The 115 Nm counts only for the Rear mounting bolts. We know that the Hayes manual has on occasion listed a wrong torque spec, but not in this case. I do not mess with torque specs on a car like this 😅. I am always amused about the torque specs of Christian's brothers Smart car 😃.
      And it could have been that we gotten a bad bearing, but I doub't it. That is just Land Rover Discovery, a luxus SUV which breaks often. You just have to live with it 😅, we do and we love it. 👍🙋‍♀️ Vera

    • @shaunbava1801
      @shaunbava1801 3 роки тому

      @@Vera_and_Christian You are indeed correct, 275nm for the front. I better go tighten my front caliper bracket I just did my brakes 3 weeks ago, I probably didn't torque the front correctly! I must be pretty lucky not much has ever broken on mine it's not a Toyota but it has been far better more reliable than the VW I had before it and the Nissan I had before that.

    Are you running 18” wheels? What Hankook winter tyres are they? And you appear to be running the standard size disc?-will the TUV allow you to run updated v8 discs pads and callipers which I have done on mine with EBC green stuff pads?
    If you do this upgrade the forums say to use Red stuff pads which I will next time.
    I look forward to a reply please!
