    Thank you to you and your husband for making this video. Bottom line is I need to clean, dust out my machine often? After every is probably a good idea. I don’t remember the last time I dusted it out and I’ve been doing g a lot of sewing lately. The machine was VERY dusty, like a ceiling fan that needs cleaning! Thanks again. I’ve saved this video, it the best!

    Thank you so much I ran over a needle and it would not reverse. This fixed the problem. Thank you. You might want to make another video showing how to take the cover off and link it. Thanks again

    Thanks so much for this video Guys!! I knew those gears were my problem, just wasn't sure how they needed to be adjusted. Very helpful!!

    My Brother SE-400 was sewing only in reverse. I found that same pair of gears you found.
    I'm not sure the gears were mis-aligned. For starters, I can't see how it would have happened. Also, did you notice the arrow on the lighter colored rack gear? It lines up with a little circle on the dark gear on my machine. That seems like it might be significant.
    What I found was that if I moved the 'tab' clockwise (looking at the machine from the same angle you were in the video) manually it would sew forward until I tried using the reverse button. Then it would sew in reverse until I got in there and pushed the tab around clockwise again.
    It might be that it's not in the right starting position. I don't know if it's looking at the position of the motor that drives the dark gear when the machine starts up or what. I'm sure it must. So why isn't it 'finding' it properly?
    It's definitely a weird problem. It's almost like a software problem but I can't see how anything could have gone wrong with the software.
    I think what you have isn't really a fix so much as a workaround.
    (We need Right to repair legislation. There is no way I'm paying someone $250 to fix this problem just because they have access to the repair manual.)
    Now I'm wondering if it's got some kind of optical sensor for the stepper motor position and it's gotten lint in it. I really am not looking forward to taking that case apart again, I can tell you.

      @@americanhoes1652, my guess is that without information from the manufacturer you *can't* really, "fix," it. (Fix meaning: Return it to its original state.) You can only work around the problem in various ways that will temporarily get it to function.
      The manufacturer won't provide that information unless you pay them. Thus, my comment on Right to Repair laws.

      @@americanhoes1652 I had the same issue, fixed mine after lubricate the parts that moves when the reverse is pressed. When I open my machine I saw that the motor was jammed and when I released it didn’t work properly till lubricant penetrate on the slider.

    A trick is to hold reverse and shut off the machine. Then when it turns on again it works normal for a while. But yeah it needs some white lithium lube too on that gear.

    take it easy sir. I couldn't find it anywhere. How the machine sews upside down. What happens when you press the lever, it sews upside down. I couldn't find the explanation of reverse stitching logic. What's happening

    • @americanhoes1652
      @americanhoes1652  Рік тому +2

      I'm not really sure what you are trying to say or ask with your comment, but I'll give it a stab.
      You normally use reverse stitching when you get to the end of whatever it is you are sewing, back it up three stitches to secure the stitch. Otherwise, your sewing comes undone.

    • @user-jd5zp6wg3w
      @user-jd5zp6wg3w Місяць тому

      For regular sewing projects, you need to begin your stitch with a back stitch of about three stitches and back stitch once again at the end. If your machine has automatic buttonholes, it needs to be able to sew backwards, in place, and of course forwards.
