    Those posts are called “T” posts, and yes you can pick them up at any farm supply store. I live in IL and Tractor Supply has a variety of different types and lengths ranging in price from $4.44 to $13.99. I put in the T posts and use zip ties and cattle panels. I plant my tomatoes (last year 46 plants, usually run 60 plants, a couple of years ago I had 72) in the ground spaced apart on one side of the fence, then alternating in between on the other side of the fence to maximize space. I just use twine to tie them up into the fence. Seems to work for me. I have a produce stand in front of my house and the excess that doesn’t sell gets turned into spaghetti sauce, lasagna sauce or chili.

    Wow, the weave was much harder than i thought. I returned to using 4" mesh webbing and using tomato clips to support the tomatoes growing up the trellis. Much easier!

    That's awesome. Lol we were just talking about doing this this year and saving cages for containers and determinate tomatoes. Perfect timing.

      Yeah, we've done it for 3 years now and I don't think I will ever go back.

    Great method of trellising. With indeterminates, when they reach the top of the post or the last string,, what do you do with the vine? Also do you prune each indeterminate plant to only one vine as in the lower and lean method or allow multiple main vines to grow?

      For us about the time they get a foot or so above the last string our frost arrives and we are done any way.
      I'm not a great pruner, I just try to keep the suckers down to a minimum and keep things contained to the trellis. I don't worry much about pruning it to the main vine.

    I only have bamboo, do you think the end posts being bamboo it would still hold?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  Місяць тому +1

      No, you will need strong posts that can go deep in the ground to support the weight of your tomato plants. Bamboo won't hold up.

    Do you suggest trimming tomato plants???

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  2 місяці тому

      Yes, especially the lower branches. You want to keep the vines off the ground to help prevent disease issues. I also try to prune my suckers, but I get less enthusiastic about it as the season goes on.
