FOUR Locomotives Roaring On The Minnesota Commercial -K5LA Horn-

- Minnesota Commercial's fleet of OLDER GE's are getting a workout! Watch and see as FOUR of these classic locomotives lug a heavy train up the line, and put on a show. Seeing more then two of these on the Commercial is a treat, but FOUR? That's pretty rare!
We'll start off at the Minnesota Commercials main yard near Raymond Ave. After watching Amtrak roll in, and J15 go, the quartet of GEs got on the move. After they got out of the yard, the train is seen clawing up the hill at Raymond Ave. Following this, we'll see the train marching along at a few other places before getting to New Brighton. After this, we'll see it rolling through Long Lake Park, shoving up the Arsenal Spur, and one last time clanking over the diamonds at Park Jct.

I am a native of the old Minnesota Transfer 'hood. As a teen I would visit the guys in the towers @ St. Anthony and St. Anthony Park Jct., also Park Jct. When I was a 6yr old standing on the old Raymond Ave. Bridge one could see M.T.R.Y. Alcos and an once in a while a steam engine. Also many passenger trains. Thank you!
You saw some COOL stuff back in those days! I can only imagine how neat, and busy things were, back in those days. Thanks for watching, and the comment!
Love the K3L /K5LA action 🤞
That makes two of us; it sounds so neat hearing this unit working around the cities. Thanks for watching!
They sound so much better when the engineer actually has a horn handle/lever that admits air in varying amounts like in those older units vs. when a button activates the horn in just on or off fashion. 🤠👍
More MN Comercial content is always interesting, especially catching Amtrak.
Interesting views.
Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate the kind words/feedback!

Great to hear you enjoy the videos on my channel! Appreciate the kind words, and thanks for watching!
That horn shreds!!
I love the K5LA
It certainly stands out amongst all of the Commercial's other power. You can always tell when this unit is leading from its horn. Thanks for watching!
Great video Douglas! ;)
@lexpo181 Thanks for the kind comment, and glad you enjoyed it!
Hey, long lake park! I had my senior photos there specifically because of the caboose there!
Its a nice park, and the caboose looks good! The Soo Line guy in me wishes they had a Soo caboose though. :p
I liked that LMX paint scheme. It really fit on the engine just right.
Very well done ! 👍
Before it was TTI it was SBD SYSTEM B36-7 Used for Intermodal days till CSX Back in the early 2000s
Your work is amazing
Excellent video
Very cool.
Love this content on the twin cities, any shot of a video on UP working the king plant in bayport MN? shoving up into Hudson then back across the river?
Thank you for the kind words on this video, and glad you enjoyed it! I have an entire video about the UP serving that spot. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/2bG4JZPktxE/v-deo.html
Let me know if the link works!
@ 1:44... i'm glad you explained the paint scheme on that lead unit #76...
i was thinking it was an old Detroit Edison unit...
but i don't think they used 4 axle loco... only 6 axle locos
No wonder Amtrak is so slow if they have to set switches by hand 😐
Yeah, they can get slowed down going through here. Imagine how it is come winter time! Thanks for the comment, and watching!
Cool!
7:52 looks like #54 got repainted recently also with a new Minnesota Commercial logo
So I eat lunch at the yard all the time and UP, CPKC and BNSF all pick up trains there. Is it more of a marshalling yard? MN Commercial used to be owned by BN and Milw. Is it still? Also, is there a video of the tracks along Hiawatha?
The Commercial's Yard, or another yard in the area? Back in the day, the major players in the Twin Cities all had a joint share in the Minnesota Transfer. These days, The Minnesota Commercial is the sole owner.
Here is one of the videos I've done on The Hiawatha Line: ua-cam.com/video/k0Av2jF-zVc/v-deo.html
If you search 'Hiawatha SD457500' you'll see a number of other videos I've done along the Hiawatha line too!
Interesting that 85 has its road number on the cab roof. Is that a one-off as far as the MNNR roster is concerned?
