Had my braces for 4 months now. Currently in pain from getting my first power chain to close my gaps and it’s worth every minute! I’ve hated it for a long time but you would be surprised at how many people that tell me not to close it.
How painful was it when they installed it? It must have felt like all your teeths were pulled and pushed in places it weren't suppose to go to. I don't know but I'm curious.

I too have a rather large gap on top, smaller gaps on the bottom. I’m 2 weeks into treatment with braces. I loved my smile and my top gap, but hated the bottom. The main reason I went through with the treatment is because those very gaps will cause/caused my teeth to start protruding outward, and that was a NONO🛑 love yourself no matter what people think or say; ppl can sense vulnerability and the twisted ones will bully others because of their own insecurities. Embrace who you are regardless and when you have the means, make changes as YOU see fit, not for anyone else. BLESSINGS to the GAP community💯🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I too had a very big gap upfront and lower front but when I went to a dentist he did gap bonding in my upfront teeth put another teeth in my downer teeth. Now downer one is off but upfront teeth still have that bonding which doesn't make me comfortable at all
I'm in this too. No self confidence cos it. I'm always shy to talk in public. Low self-esteem cos of this. Mine is up and down and protruding cos I suck my tongue. This thing has robbed me off my self esteem in my 37yrs or since I became self aware!

Finally got braces recently to close gaps. Still in the first week and it's been tough but I can't wait to have a normal, perfect smile. I hope to update in a years time with vast improvements. 8 week update: ortho said progress has been very good. Had powerchains fitted this morning so this is when the biggest changes happen. 16 week update: progress has been good. Had my second adjustment last week. Gaps where my pre molars used to be completly closed front gaps alot smaller. Second adjustment the bands are alot tighter and I was in agony anytime cold water touched my teeth but better now after a week. 25 week update: gaps all completly closed (they pretty much closed completely around week 22). Orthodontist very surprised with progress and I am expected to have them off after another 8-12 weeks! (2-3 months from now) which is excellent considering I was was expecting 12-18 months at first but now I'm it's expected to be 8-9 months. I've got elastic bands on now and they very annoying although not painful. 33 week update: all my teeth are perfect except for upper incisor which is extremely annoying as if I wasn’t for that I would have had them off today. And because of scheduling and Christmas, my next appointment won’t be until week 42. 42 week update: all my teeth are fine but my bite needs to be opened up more and that’s it so that’s another 2 months. Means that if they do come off the treatment will have lasted me just about a year. I will share before and after pictures once they do come off and I can’t wait for that! 52 week update: officially one year and my teeth are all good now! Got moulding done and I get bonded retainers next week, and the week after that the braces off officially. 53 week update: bonded retainers fitted, braces come off officially 6th April! Before and after pics will be posted. 54 week update: braces are off! I can’t stop smiling 😁. My gums are abit swollen and sore, once that goes down I will post some before and after pictures
@@dar__873 I've been told anytime between 12 and 18 months for myself. Duration depends on individual cases. For me I have 2 gaps on my front teeth one on upper (~3mm at start) one on lower (~1.5mm at start) and then I had 4 gaps where I had 4 pre molars removed at a very young age each gap averaging around 2mm each (all closed within a week of my last adjustment which I did on the 15th of Jul last week). My teeth were not too crooked to begin with mostly gaps. So generally you should expect about 12 months minimum.
I wish I had enough funds to also close my gaps for they made n still continuing to lose my confidence, it's been hard to give a full smile. Hope God helps me to get someone to assist me with that one day.
It sucks we live in a society where others judge and make fun of others for their physical anomalies. Granted, teeth that are separated will NOT fix themselves and even get worse with time, my own included. Trying to get them realigned is in your own best interest. I have had a small tooth gap turn into a larger one in a matter of 2 years. Getting braces this month but i was never bullies nor made fun of. Trust me everyone has a defect an i would dish it right back if anyone ever came at me with that cr@p. Anyway, for anyone who is suffering through the same fate take the time to research your options. There are tons of low cost, low income programs out there especially if you’re under 18. We all deserve to look and feel great so please don’t give up hope. ✌️🙂

I have diastemata between my lower front teeth and peg lateral incisors on the upper arch. Just got my braces yesterday and my gums are so sore. The plan is to close up the gaps and leave some space for the peg laterals to be build up with composite bonding. The braces are meant to take about 12-18 months. I'm 22 and starting my career as a teacher so feeling very nervous about how students will react and treat me. I keep finding myself checking my teeth in the mirror as if they'll already have moved lol. You've explained everything so well and I watched your video before my appointments to better prepare myself mentally because my orthodontist isn't very loquacious

I have also been bullied about my teeth.. even with my works insurance i couldn't afford it.. and i held it off for so long because the monthly payments were still to high for me... i finay got my braces less than a week ago it was 6120.00 not including the retainer fee of 350.. i put down 500 insurance covered 2000 monthly payments 155.. for 24 months!! Not including the surgury they daid inwould need for the middle of my teeth..some type of bone blocking it.. idk.. but let me tell u.. these braces hurt like hell!!! I always hear the bigger the gaps the more pain.. and i believe that.
I cant wait y I'll start getting my teeth fixed, I just got married and now have amazing insurance through my husband and look in my forward to closing my gaos

I’m glad I saw this. My gap is almost closed but the tissue that filled that space is not between my teeth and has pushed out to the front and it’s burning me for about two weeks now. I came looking to see if it’s normal and this really helped me. My orthodontist did say initially after it’s closed they will remove it but it’s just awkward and bothersome now that’s it’s between my two front teeth.

i have not to huge of a gap and i hate it so much tho my friends all got braces and i had a problem of my baby teeth not coming out. i would go to the ortho and all we would say is “you need to wait about 6 more months you still have like 8 baby teeth left” so i took out and started tugging on teeth and lost about 4 or 5 i just went to the dentist yesterday and she told me i’m ready for braces and i’m so happy! my next appointment my ortho is going to tell me if i need braces or not but i think i’ll be able to get braces i’ll let y’all know when my next appointment is
I have an awful gap, and missing teeth runs in the family, meaning they were just never there and will never be there, so technically I have a ton of gaps- but I probably cant do anything about it until im off living my own life and can pay for it myself considering my parents always change the topic when i mention getting braces. I’ve always been scared to smile or laugh and I don’t even talk to new people anymore because of the fear that my teeth will be the first thing they notice. Hello, can I ask a question? I've been very stressed by my teeth lately. The only problem with my teeth before was my snaggle tooth, my outer incisor. It was fixed with braces after 3 months and then, lately I realized that there is something wrong with the alignment of my teeth and it affected my smile. My middle teeth are not in the center. The dentist told me that it was because of the gap that was created after my right premolar was removed. and then my dentist is telling me that the only way to bring it back to the center is extraction of my right premolar but I dont want that so she do IPR but still its not in the center. And its been 10 months since. and this whole situation frustrates me. What should be done to bring back the normal alignment of my teeth?😢😢😢

I have a gap in the lower front two teeth. They also suggested a retainer and dissuaded from bonding or verneers for the same reason you mentioned, doctor. They say however that if I have some bone loss under the gum line, that even a retainer may not be possible. I do have a bit of bone loss there...but my teeth and gums seem very strong, nevertheless. Not sure what to do. Maybe I'll call them again to see if something can be done. Thank you Dr. Sehmi for the video.

I actually have a two part question for you that I hope you don't mind taking some time out of your day to answer. I have about a 2cm size gap in my top teeth in the front. (1). If the gap can't close even with the help of bottom braces, would it be possible to pull a bottom tooth out to create more room. (2). If so, is this something my orthodontist have to recommend or can I chose this option on my own accord if I don't like any of the other choices?

Closing a gap takes 1,5 year. Plus you need to use night retainers forever basicallly.

I'll never understand people who thumbs down vids like this. what do you hate about it? the Dr. who gave him the options to correct what made him feel insecure? the two small gaps at the back of the mouth that can't be noticed? the happy patient? SMH

@@sweta.04 yes the gap is gone,but after removal of braces,my teeth moved back again,I had to use veneers

@@sweta.04 Not now because I used veneers,but after I removed the braces,two weeks later it was like I had done nothing. Gaps were back,as wide as they could ever have been.

i have not to huge of a gap and i hate it so much tho my friends all got braces and i had a problem of my baby teeth not coming out. i would go to the ortho and all we would say is “you need to wait about 6 more months you still have like 8 baby teeth left” so i took out and started tugging on teeth and lost about 4 or 5 i just went to the dentist yesterday and she told me i’m ready for braces and i’m so happy! my next appointment my ortho is going to tell me if i need braces or not but i think i’ll be able to get braces i’ll let y’all know when my next appointment is

I have an awful gap, and missing teeth runs in the family, meaning they were just never there and will never be there, so technically I have a ton of gaps- but I probably cant do anything about it until im off living my own life and can pay for it myself considering my parents always change the topic when i mention getting braces. I’ve always been scared to smile or laugh and I don’t even talk to new people anymore because of the fear that my teeth will be the first thing they notice. I know my teeth make me “unique”, but if this is what “unique” is then i dont want to be it. If you read this far thanks for reading into my rant. :’)

Research it’s bands. It closed my gap and improved my smile. They have retaining bands I where but I switch them out every two days

Hello, can I ask a question? I've been very stressed by my teeth lately. The only problem with my teeth before was my snaggle tooth, my outer incisor. It was fixed with braces after 3 months and then, lately I realized that there is something wrong with the alignment of my teeth and it affected my smile. My middle teeth are not in the center. The dentist told me that it was because of the gap that was created after my right premolar was removed. and then my dentist is telling me that the only way to bring it back to the center is extraction of my right premolar but I dont want that so she do IPR but still its not in the center. And its been 10 months since. and this whole situation frustrates me. What should be done to bring back the normal alignment of my teeth?😢😢😢

I have a gap in the lower front two teeth. They also suggested a retainer and dissuaded from bonding or verneers for the same reason you mentioned, doctor. They say however that if I have some bone loss under the gum line, that even a retainer may not be possible. I do have a bit of bone loss there...but my teeth and gums seem very strong, nevertheless. Not sure what to do. Maybe I'll call them again to see if something can be done. Thank you Dr. Sehmi for the video.

I actually have a two part question for you that I hope you don't mind taking some time out of your day to answer. I have about a 2cm size gap in my top teeth in the front. (1). If the gap can't close even with the help of bottom braces, would it be possible to pull a bottom tooth out to create more room. (2). If so, is this something my orthodontist have to recommend or can I chose this option on my own accord if I don't like any of the other choices?
