hey mr.tampatec, this video reminds me that i did this exact same procedure 43 years ago on my 1973 datsun 240Z as a kill switch to prevent it from being stolen. i did this because it had been stolen 2 times within the first year i owned it and 50 Z's were being stolen back then due to so many on the road. luckly, it was recovered each time, stripped of course, i still have that 240Z in my garage being restored to it's original condition. thank you for your enjoyable expertise as usual. dennis, san diego calif.
Thank you for this video. I actually got this done and it worked perfectly. I would never have even tried to attempt this without this video. So much appreciation!!
I want to install an on off switch for accent lights. I want to use the cigarette lighter hole for the switch. How would I wire the accent lights into it?
hello. Want to know how would i connect my star headliner power to the cigarette outlet with the toggle ? Will it be the same method your using in the video ?
bgregg55 yeah theyre actually pretty hit or miss believe it or not. my 98 ram i believe was wired to ignition by factory so you dont kill the battery but on my 2013 f150 in the backseat, its constant. thats where i charge my phone lol so i have to plug and unplug when i want to use it. no big deal for newer cars as most electronics will power down completely when the battery is drained just enough for the car to start, making it pretty hard to kill a newer battery. very clean install overall. i just wouldnt go through all that work just for something that should work like you think it should lol.
I still can't believe they managed to make the interior of a Mustang this cheap. A chinese rip off car is like a Rolls Royce in comparison to most american cars from that period.
My problem is just the opposite. When i turn the key off in my 2014 Honda, the cigar lighter power dies. So I can't charge my cell phone unless the power (key) is ON!
Jim Nichols lol just like my comment above. my 98 ram outlets shut off when the key was out but in my 2013 f150 they are powered constantly. old or new its kind of hit and miss. especially when there are multiple outlets in the vehicle. one might be constant but the other could be ignition switched.
Space Cowboy if they aren't done perfectly, they corrode and don't provide perfect contact. I prefer male/female crimp connectors, but they can be hard to separate.
We call them Vamps or (Vampire Clips) they will ruin any wire harness. They get fitted incorrectly or corrode, seen them used exposed to elements and people expect them to keep working. They are down right awful.
@@spacecowboy1924 the quick connects are actually designed to cut through the wire insulation without stripping. As an electrician I have used them extensively on 240V AC circuits as well with no problems, bearing in mind not to overrate the current carrying capacity of the bridge connector....
I work with dc electricity on a daily and they are more susceptible to resistance and corrosion. And usually ttaps aren't the greatest connection. Resistance leads to heat and at high current that will melt wires
RELAY... RELAY...RELAY. no need to drill holes in your car to install a generic switch. What if you set your phone down over the switch and forget about it during the day... It could happen.
i was going to complement your installer skills until u pulled out that quick-connect. in my experience, those things lead to intermittents & are a poor substitute for soldered connections. but maybe my technique using them wasn't right. looks like you have done a lot more installs then me. also, u never mentioned in the tv video(or i missed it) whether the tv works while driving. i'd hate to think people are driving & viewing tv now.
there is nothing wrong with spade terminals! a vehicles electronics are inundated with them! mostly in the form of multi pin connectors just small versions of what you see here
I use these in conjunction with some relays to be able to power on or off so many things. Amps, voltmeters, fans, outlets, lights, compressor and the all important Zombie Switch. Can't unplug all of that.

Really well done. Especially liked showing what a “wrong” connection reacts like. 💯
Thanks for the video worked great thanks
Great editing! as always 😊 Great info, you are a very good video /tech instructor. 👍
thanks
Great video my friend. Helped me out, thanks
What do you recommend to use as the power cord?
You can also use a relay instead. All you need is a power source that turns on with the key. Then you don't have to worry about the switch
Hey so I have 3 power outlets, 2 in front and 1 in rear.. if I connect to the rear would the switch only control that one or all?
So does the ground wire and the negative wire go to the same place?
Well explained 💯
I enjoyed your video. It was very helpful. Thank you!
Awesome thanks man!!
random question: do you know if there are and ipc classes for free in the Tampa area

Thx Tampatec that's what i'm looking for my Mustang
Nice install video
thanks for the how to install video
sure, no prob
Quick question do you know how to factory reset a lg tv?
YeSir.u.The.Man... big thumbs up...
thanks
😂😁😀...
random question why do you have a ps3 controller in your glovebox
you'd think car makers would put the power port on a time-out circuit.
right, it's 2016

Has your quick connect held up? I will never use one ever again. All junk and ruin the wires and connection.
Do you know how I would do this same thing with a 5 prong switch?
It’s the same way , the switch should say on the side what the prongs are
My problem is just the opposite. When i turn the key off in my 2014 Honda, the cigar lighter power dies. So I can't charge my cell phone unless the power (key) is ON!

tampatec. i have a project going on id appreciate it if you could get back at me for some questions i have in regards to it. thanks
This guy is a TOOL for real!
I'm not a fan of quick connects. I worked on a CCTV system for a local business and I had to replace every connection they used quick connects.
David Basara why is that? just curious lol im not a troll.

true, soldering is the best connection, also car radio has a setting on by default to turn off video when driving for safety.
torcher78 i should have been more clear. I was referring to those fold-over splice connectors (Scotchloks is one brand name).
A proper crimp is like a cold weld and actually more conductive than solder...
+bgregg55 yeah those things are total junk
or just unplug whatever is plugged in! lol
true but I forget sometimes, the led reminds me.
I use these in conjunction with some relays to be able to power on or off so many things. Amps, voltmeters, fans, outlets, lights, compressor and the all important Zombie Switch. Can't unplug all of that.
Des420 compressor? what u drivin? lol jw
Space Cowboy SUV. Just a small compressor for a secondary horn when the normal one won't do...
if you are ever looking for a new stripper, u should give the irwin self-adjusting stripper a try. its pretty sweet.
Same with a Gardner Bender GS-394 auto stripper. Strips 26AWG to 10AWG without nicking a SINGLE strand. Farm & Fleet has it fo $14.95.
Never catch me using a wire tapper like that in a vehicle. Vibration and corrosion will not be kind.
Wtf
This video made me cringe, he never heated up the heat shrink on the but connecters! Now everything is going to fall apart.
6:00 these are crimp connectors not heatshrink, update: still working great.
yeah i know but theres heat shrink around the metal part your suspost to use a lighter to finish it
@@MrTacoMan247 no, not on the ones used in this video.
