Cyrus starting to sing the song and then Frog picking it up from him - a musical metaphor for Frog accepting the charge that Cyrus passed on to him - was absolutely beautiful.
"The days of the craven are done." I love the dual meaning of this line: Frog is determined to kill Magus, who he calls "craven" in Battle with Magus, but he's also gotten over his own fears- *he's* not a craven anymore.
When Glenn screams "no", I really felt that scene. This has also inspired my next DnD character background. A young paladin, no more than maybe 15, 16. His older brother and him were raised on stories of heroes told to them by their solo mother. As kids they promise her to become like those heroes and after she passes, they head out into the world to do good. Alas, things go wrong and the elder brother is killed during their first mission. His view of the world shattered, the young paladin must figure everything first before seeking his destiny. What was the kid's favorite story you might ask. Well it was a certain tale about 2 friends named Cryus and Glenn.
I love this comment to death, because after hearing this, I made 2 fighters, a Champion and a Cavalier. Not specifically based on these characters, but it inspired me to play Lawful Good.
I think the thing that I like most about Crono as a protagonist, is that he really embodies the true nature of a wandering hero. The majority of the plotlines in Chrono Trigger don't really involve him or his goal of saving the world (which isn't even his world when it ends). He just gets involved and tries to change things because it's the right thing to do. And it really only pays off during the ending, which is probably the best payoff in an RPG like this that I've ever seen. This game really was something special, and ironically for a game about time travel, far ahead of it's time.
Crono is the perfect example of a self insert silent protag done right. He does not take from the other characters own stories in anyway. he is not some gary stu who is perfect at everything. The world doesn't revolve around him in any way, but still the choices he makes has agency so it's not like he is a meaningless character either. There is a reason why many people call CT the greatest rpg of all time and one of the greatest games of all time. It does everything right
@@sergioplaza9561 It's possible that they just cut it from the song to preserve the flow of the music. They did the same thing with a few Undertale songs, and the cut scenes were in the full musical.
When I played the game back then I thought having this sort of history in comparison to Crono's relatively "blank slate" background made Glenn/Frog almost look more like the protagonist of the game. This piece captures that feeling I had and translates it very well into music.
well, when coupled with the fact that the middle ages are (i think) the longest (or atleast have the longest running story) and the other character's backgrounds you don't really see, it's a fair assumption
I think it's because Chrono is more the "time fixer", more like Doctor Who or, better, Brutal Legend's "Roadies". On the other hand, Glenn is the hero of his time.

I have to really appreciate the writing in these songs. I love the way that Cyrus sings "Heroes will win the day" while Glenn sings "Heroes must win the day." Cyrus sings about optimism, that everything will be fine and the heroes will defeat the villains. Yet, later on, he perishes at the villain's hand. Glenn realizes that it's not guaranteed heroes will be the victor, and understands the importance of stepping up. It's not that he WILL win, but that he MUST win for the sake of the entire world. Just beautiful.

It's amazing in this reprisal to hear Darby portray a more meek and reserved version of Frog. At the same time, it's such a contrast between his vocal attitude between Frog and Glenn; that's definitely some great attention to vocal detail! And then to hear Frog's musical lines being repeated by Cyrus really brings around how much Frog learned from his dear friend. And then there's the final part of the song where Frog sings the same thing as when he first appeared to the crew. This time, however, it practically oozes determination as opposed to the more introductory feel of the first time. It may simply be the context in which the song is sung, but I can feel the difference between the two. A great song in which to provide backstory to what I believe to be a very popular character!
I like how Glen has such a soft voice when he is still human. After becoming a Frog he uses a more knightly persona but also makes his voice deeper to sound more like Cyrous (I know i butchered this comment but i felt I needed to write this)

This song actually reframes that tune as Cyrus' language that Frog is imitating, which makes Frog even more of the pretender he should be at that point. Bravo, all! Another great work.

The reprise is even more gripping than the normal version of the song. My eyes watered with all the Cyrus flashbacks and Frog's speech towards the end. Wow! I've had to re-watch this several times before moving on same as with the Magus theme.
OOOOHHHH! This is soooo good! The original was already so perfect and then you go and DOUBLE DOWN ON IT! I hope that Magus get's a similar treatment~! Good lord, I love Frog so much in Chrono Trigger. When you first meet him you think "Oh, what a funny little frog man", and then you see his real struggles. He's not a funny little frog man, he's a tragic knight who wants to right the wrongs of his past. He takes the alias Frog because he doesn't want anyone to know he took the cowards way out and ran when things got dire, but he avenges Cyrus and leads the Humans to victory against the fiendkind as the brave hero Glenn with Masamune by his side, and then finally lays Cyrus to rest knowing that his world, and the whole world itself, will finally be at peace.

Here's to hoping there's a later part in all of this that focuses on Cyrus, preferably around the Hero's Grave event.
I've finally seen some more of CT, so I'm finally checking this out! While struck by how different this age and form of the channel was (mildly, but different at all), MOTI team still put the best forward and improved upon yet another highlight of games!
1:50 and here I thought the meme had died...
Well it suits frog way better!
That duet gave me chills!
"you're a marshmallow, Glenn"
i always felt like singing along to it when i hear it
The reprise is even more gripping than the normal version of the song.
Even though I've come to accept Magus' song as it was performed, and it was REALLY fantastic, I disagreed with the lyrical choices still if that was his ONLY song. With this reprisal in mind, I hope that there will be something similar for him. Considering his place in the story and in the fandom, I doubt that opportunity would slip by lol
Either way, *FANTASTIC JOB EVERY!!!*
[FROG, spoken]
Awaken, Crono!
I do not know how far my skills will carry me, but I will put them to the test. Let us go to Magus's keep
[CRONO, spoken]
Right! And we’re going with you!
[FROG, spoken]
His strength is no small thing. Do you understand the odds we face?
[LUCCA, spoken]
Haha! Nothing can beat science!
[MARLE, spoken]
The good guys always win!
[FROG]
Now we shall ride, our journey begins
With you at my side, we shall win!
Now we march on, we bring forth the dawn
Shine with the light of day!
[Children, spoken]
Laughing at and making fun of Glenn
[GLENN, spoken]
Aaahhhhhh!
[CYRUS, spoken]
Stop that!
[Children, spoken]
Oh, no!
It's Cyrus!
Run!
[GLENN, spoken]
sniff Thank you, Cyrus... sniff
[CYRUS, spoken]
Glenn... there are times when a man must stand and face the things that trouble him
[GLENN, spoken]
But... it hurts to be hit! I cannot hurt another... No, not even them
[CYRUS, spoken]
You're too soft, Glenn
Glenn... I’ve decided to join the knighthood
[GLENN, spoken]
I thought as much. You'll be a fine knight, I'm sure of it
[CYRUS, spoken]
Won't you come with me?
[GLENN, spoken]
I... I cannot
[CYRUS, spoken]
But why? You're a better sword than I, you always have been
[GLENN, spoken]
I haven't the nerve it takes to be a knight. In a real battle, the fear would take me
[CYRUS, spoken]
Come now, Glenn. You're stronger than you realize
[CYRUS]
Stand firm and fight
With all of your might
[CYRUS & GLENN]
We know the way!
[CYRUS]
Fight for what's right
The path of the knight
And here we stay!
[CYRUS & GLENN]
So stand by my side
Together we ride!
We’ll march against evil’s tide!
[CYRUS]
Remember this ode
This warrior's code:
[CYRUS & GLENN]
Heroes will win the day!
[GLENN, spoken]
No!
Urgh... Gah!
[FROG, spoken]
The badge... the Hero’s Badge...
[FROG]
I choose to fight
So I cannot run
The days of the craven are done!
A hero will rise
So look to the skies!
Find a new day's begun!
[FROG, spoken]
The Masamune, if you please
My name is Glenn! Long have I carried Cyrus's hopes and dreams, and now I bear the Masamune as well! Henceforth, I claim them as my own! I shall slay the Fiendlord Magus, and restore our honor!
[FROG]
Stand firm and fight
With all of your might
The hero's way!
Fight for what’s right
The path of the knight
So here I stay!
Stand by my side
Together we ride!
[FROG, CRONO, & LUCCA]
We push against evil's tide!
Now hear this ode
This warrior's code:
Heroes must win the day!
[FROG]
Here at my side, I hope you stay!
Together we shall win the day!
Fight for what's right
The path of the knight!
That's the hero's-
[CRONO]
That's the hero's-
[FROG, CRONO, & LUCCA]
That's the hero's way!
I love Glenn’s story, truly a hero and way of the warrior! I wish for all of us to be as heroic like Glenn aka Frog. The nostalgia puts tears to my eyes 🥲😊
This is so good holy cow!
Holy hell, that was fantastic!
Your voice gave me chills. Holy hot dang, man. ❤️
Why am I feeling emotions for a frog? Maybe it's how badass and touching the singing and art was.
Frog is a huge badass. Probably the most useful party member in the game next to Ayla.
@@rogeredmonds373 I know. A while back, I got the game. Currently stuck on trying to beat Lavos.
Voice...nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t think it was possible to make Frog’s Shonen Anime Moment even more badass but... you did it.
That is so awesome! I cried, i must admit
i never thought i'd cry at this scene but yall did it
you made me cry
Спасибо вашему каналу,за то,что вы есть!!!
Simply amazing I really love this game and what you guys are doing!
That was awesome!
I just found this 2 years later awesome 😎 Job. I love Glenn's character in CT
YAY!!!!! You added the PSX cut scene. One of my all time favorite parts of CT.
Fantastic, as usual!
Frog/Glenn is probably my favorite character in the entire game... his journey and how it mixes into the entire storyline as a whole just... clicked with me somehow
OMG! This made me so emotional!
Glenn/ Frog: *painful scream in my headphones*
My ears: R. I. P.
0:14
Frog: "Let us go to Magus's keep."
Crono: *"RiGhT! AnD We'Re COmINg WiTH yOU!"*
Oh Crono. You're so awkward.
Good job you delivered on it that is the most powerful pieces of the game 👏👏👏
Half upset you didn’t show Cyrus’s Sigurd impression, but wonderful regardless. I’m speechless.
