Hi Josh, just wondering if you’d ever be willing to share your effects pedal database, or at the very least, explain how you have it set up? i.e. columns, categories, etc. In comparison, i only have around 140 pedals compared to your 4 million, but being an Excel and database nerd, I’m interested in how you do it. Thanks! 😎
Cuz yeah, I'm sure on reverb they have some used ones that are the exact same price or more than the list price, oh yeah, plus shipping. Somebody explain to me why to go to reverb, I've never seen any good prices there, am I looking in the wrong place?
Yeah, you are missing it somehow. You need to know the retail prices of things that you have an interest in buying beforehand. Then, when you look up a particular pedal, go to the list of all the pedals of that model and go to the lowest priced example. Factor shipping into the final price. Compare that price with the price of a new one and decide if the condition of the pedal makes it a good deal or not compared to the difference in the prices of new and used. Continue down the list if needed.
There are some good deals on reverb. I feel like there used to be better deals about 5 years back though. You didn’t have to scroll far to find a good deal whereas now you do.

Regarding budget vs. basic: I think a lot of pedal lines are 'basic' - no frills, very intuitive, and great sounding but somewhat utilitarian, and I'm in that camp that resents the idea of a $100 pedal being 'budget'. It's curious how that price got elevated to budget, when not long ago it was kind of 'standard'. Boss, MXR, and other lines were all floating in that 80-150 window without ever being budget. I'd love to see the term get back to pedals that are generally under 80 bucks - that 30-50 dollar range feels 'budget' to me, while pedal lines like Gamma, 3 series, Foundation, and similar lines might be better called 'basic'. Let's shift the industry vocabulary and expectation, one video demo at a time. Or don't. thanks.
what’s difficult here is how money has changed and specifically how much the dollar is worth versus some of the references that you’re speaking of and that we all remember from decades ago. For instance, you might see a 1970s ad for a deluxe memory man and it’s only a couple hundred dollars but in reality it was the equivalent of $1000 today. The same goes for DOD PEDALS where you see some of their delay pedals in the 1970s being the equivalent of $600 today. A boss pedal in the 90s was the same pay $300 today. it’s really important to notice that a dollar was not $1 year ago or 10 years ago and especially not in the 90s and before.
