Have you tried Champions Online? the main world hub is actually part of Michigan. :D Well... the lore is that a massive battle called the "Battle of Detroit".. leveled most of Detroit and Millenium City... was built as a replacement.
I LOVE THIS!! This is such a beautiful design for the Cali Class and 2409. I also think the roundness of the STO Era Ships really compliment the shape of the Cali class a lot. I NEED IT!
I love it and I want it. With the time frame you set up these ships would be ideal to do Project Swingby in the Delta quadrant. It would be both hilarious and scary to see how the crews of these ships handle second contact with the many races that Janeway and crew pissed off during their journey. 😂 Plus it would be really cool to see these all over the Dyson sphere network, doing repairs and helping out damaged ships.
This is gorgeous! Love how well the oddy's secondary hull translates to an engineering pod. Well done to you and Aventine, Hope STO buys this from yall so I can take the USS Manistee for a spin ASAP!
Awww... no London? It'd be cool if it was made an attack shuttle carrier and home to Werewolf Squadron because someone higher up actually had a sense of humor. :)
When Lower Decks was first shown, I started cutting and pasting parts of ships and made a Galaxy-esque Cali-class, it would've been much better than the ship we got in the show... we already have a Nebula which uses Galaxy parts, so why not more classes. For STO, the Michigan is a quality ship, why not have a variant that uses other ship parts?
I love this! It would be really cool to see it in game as well as variants from different eras. I completely forgot there was a Romulus city up there. I'm next door in Indiana. I never bought the Exeter, but I love the look of it. If we could use them on the Discoprise, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Wouldn't they just need to up the visual scale to make it compatible?
Love this, great modern update to to the California class. Love your lore for it too, especially as a fellow Michigander. I definitely need to check out AventineIss. Been cooking up a ship design myself for a number of years, but I also can't draw for shit, so need to find a good artist. I haven't settled on a final design or ship name yet, but it's meant to be a flagship for a deep space exploration fleet, deep into the Gamma quadrant. The ship serves as a command/support carrier, about 1/3-2/3 larger than an Odyssey class, almost like a miniature mobile starbase. Fleet is currently comprised of escorts and science ships from all the major factions in the Khitomer Alliance as well. I hadn't really included any support ships, but I think the Michigan class would fit perfectly.
Great concept, I would have moved the engineering pod forwards though, place the pod right between the struts, that's the only change I would have made to modernize the Cali.
Now knowing about the shuttle bay at the back of the odyssey make me wish it was still a customization option on the ship for when you don't have the Aquarius console equipped
My personal opinion is, I would take the future Hope class remaster nacelles and use those for it because it feels like it is like a part of the original Exter class, but I would change the chlorine a bit.
A Neo-Constitution saucer could work quite well (Despite not being round) due to the Cali classes mission parameters. Those big Impulse units would allow for decent Tugboat jobs. Nacelles don't suck, but would need new/different pylons and secondary hull.
@@Stu1701 Thats fair enough, its just a thought. Beyond a vague idea over how to add hanger bays and keeping the nacelles, I don't know what I'd do with the pylons or secondary hull. You can't argue that those Impulse engines wouldn't make for a fantastic Workhorse though.
This looks way too good for a Cali replacement. The Cali always has a bit of silliness to it's design. But, with that said, I would love to see customization parts of this for the game along with all the variants from the series finale. Legendary Cali? What about USS Hell for Hell, Michigan? Also, I can see the two Mackinaw crews being rivals trying to out do each other and would challenge each other to various wacky things like baseball during off time during any missions the two ships are assigned to work together.
I shed a tear when you said you named it after Michigan because it's split into two. Then I died when you said you're from there. Also, I loved the naming convention. The fact the naming list includes places only someone from Michigan would know about or would be able to correctly pronounce was the cherry on top. Question is, are you a Troll or are you a Yooper? On a side note, I really wished you named the USS Romulus after the city near Detroit just to confuse people in-universe. From a lore standpoint, you could ret-con the origin of the city with being a sight of Romulan refugees that broke away from the Star Empire during Earth's early 18th Century. It ties with the theme.
Suggestion: Star from Horatio- or Narenda-class ships, which are essentially 2409 Ambassador-class. All round circular saucer. Further, Ambassador and California saucers are almost same size.
I've never viewed what STO calls the Narendra as a 2409 ship because it's actually just Probert's original concept for the Enterprise-C. Many have viewed it as what the Ambassador prototype may have looked like, but I think it looks too advanced for the Lost Era, so I've always viewed it as a possible TNG era refit for the Ambassador. But I don't think it fits for the STO era.
@@Stu1701 The Horatio then. The nacelles aren't far from the Exeter style neither. They could even fit better, being a bit more rounded and would only need to be "stripped down" a bit, much like how the Cali-class was a "barebones" ship. To be fair, I've recently started to imagine the Cali-class being a kit-bash of leftover Ambassador class ships, with parts from Galaxy-project (deflector in particular), since production of Ambassador most likely was cut short or put on the back burner, when Galaxy, Nebula and other of said generation started being produced.
This is actually a bug, there is no Terran California class. Both the California and Inquiry class models sometimes leak into the Federation and Terran critter groups for some reason. The devs don't know why and it's not a high priority because it doesn't break anything.
I know Thomas has seen it. Sadly, they is a fan-made ship (made by Aventine and I), so legally, STO can't use it. Though if it were possible, I'd be down for signing anything they'd need me to. But again, I don't expect that to ever happen.
I wanted to get a good spread of Michigan cities, not just be the all suburb cities that surround Detroit. Plus, who knows if that's all of them, I only stuck with 30 because that's how many known (or suspected) Californias there are listed on Memory Alpha.
I can see it now, 4/4 weapons layout, double MW seating with way too much engineering. And a starship trait that buffs shields but only when you get to 50% health.

Woohoo! Michigan represent!
Michigander here and I am happy to see Michigan get it's own class
@kdvideoproductions2904 U.S.S. Ypsilanti.... good luck universal translator. I know locals who pronounce it wrong lol
For sure🤗, greetings from the Thumb🖖
That is a really cool looking successor to the Cali class. I would love to have it in STO. LOWER DECKS! LOWER DECKS!
Being from Michigan myself, I absolutely enjoyed this video. This makes me want to go into STO to get the Cali and make this. Thank you.

Ontario Class idea:
USS Ottawa
USS Toronto
USS Waterloo
USS Kitchener
USS KillBear
USS WilberForce
USS Saint Jacobs
My California is the USS Ontario. For Ontario, California. :D
Awww... no London?

Nice work Stu, love the lore you worked out for this class plus it looks awsome.

Nah, STO has a lot of small ships too. Also we have the actual California class.
Hrm... I think that would fall somewhere between a "Hell Yeah" and a "Shut Up And Take My Money".
I freaking love it!

That’s a cool design! Love how much detail from other ships Aventine put into. Didn’t you know you are a Ganite!
Very nice design! I didn't like the Cali class at first, but it kinda grew on me over 5 seasons
Cool dudes👍👍👍👍
I could easily see this design in STO & even in ST canon elsewhere. I think well done & believable.
So what is the Starship trait you would give her?
Given that this class has two traits... Wouldn't it of been more on point to call it the Dakota Class?
Need this to come to STO.
"furiously smashes huge wad of money into stu's computer screen" Shut up and take my money, we need this in sto now XD
mate she's a beauty, well done
Glad to see my state represented and to see all my fellow Michiganders in the comments o7
Very nice
Great concept, I would have moved the engineering pod forwards though, place the pod right between the struts, that's the only change I would have made to modernize the Cali.
I wanted to keep the same basic shape are the original California class
Now knowing about the shuttle bay at the back of the odyssey make me wish it was still a customization option on the ship for when you don't have the Aquarius console equipped
We are due for another legendary bundle and this would be a great skin for a legendary Cali. Or a maybe a Terren version .
I would to see this in game. And if STO is smart they'll add this to the inevitable LD bundle
we all want one
and the Colorado Class would be all this plus a Third Narcel and a Miranda Bar. The Class Function would be Escort Frigate.
Too bad Eagle Moss is gone. I buy one of these in a heartbeat
I could see an Aquarius dock on a Michigan for delivering replacements.
in an alt timeline this is the ship the player character gets instead of the adventourous Miranda class
My personal opinion is, I would take the future Hope class remaster nacelles and use those for it because it feels like it is like a part of the original Exter class, but I would change the chlorine a bit.
With the split hull/split state theme, I feel like the USS Sault Ste Marie (split/twin city) was a missed opportunity 😂❤🖖
One things for sure, after that series finale of LD, STO has tonnes of new ships for (unfortunately) lock boxes
Absolute Peak that is

but I hate the Constitution III

I watched the end before the cut off then again after the cut off, do I get extra special gift?
25th century Achilles and Typhon please. And a modern update for the 2376 Premonition class.

This is a great concept. But honestly, now that the show unfortunately ended, Legendary California class when? 😅😅
I'd love both concepts to happen
If we ever do get a Legendary California, I feel like the Terran Cali from the finale is more likely.
@Stu1701 just as long as it adds more kitbashable parts to have more fun with

Troll, I'm down in the Metro Detroit area
A fellow troll! I'm from West Michigan, just south of GR. It was nice to see it and Battle Creek be ship names. I just wish you added Grand Haven.

I want this
A ship could be named after the Michigan city of Romulus but constantly mistaken for being named after the Romulan city
When I was doing the Ninth Rule patrol yesterday, I saw a Terran California Class.
I had to ask...has the Empire fallen so far?
Likely Terran ships that have been stranded, terrans probably use California class as a logistical support ship
This is actually a bug, there is no Terran California class. Both the California and Inquiry class models sometimes leak into the Federation and Terran critter groups for some reason. The devs don't know why and it's not a high priority because it doesn't break anything.
@@Stu1701 hmm... maybe for a real Teran version of Michigan class just move the lower hull forward to be under hte main hull.
STO needs to pick this up hell if its the legendary version that would be awesome now you need to do stats on this and send it to marone

@Stu1701 hopefully something could be worked out for it because I'd buy it and for another skin we could have the terran version or something
I love it! But the Cali class has ships named after counties, not cities. Your naming convention is slightly off...
Should have been the NCC 955313 could be the USS Detroit.
too many digits for a STO-era registry number. Hell, that'd be higher than any of the 32nd century ships.
@@Stu1701 Ok then NCC 95313. I hopped on STO to check, I was able to change my Lexington to NCC 955313.
