    I am in the process now of searching for my first private plane!! The inside looks like a jet, some in fact would call it a jet.. I myself would not consider this a private jet however it is a great starter plane for myself, my business and my family. I really started getting curious about aviation and becoming a private pilot in 2020 when all of what happened in the world, happened.
    This Saratoga piper is really nice and could fit the bill however there are some issues, one that I am now learning about is private pilots insurance on this plane. I was told that it would be better or me to have a couple hundred hours in a Cessna 172 or 182 and then move up from there however I have yet to confirm this with an insurance agent. This was told to me by a aviation broker.
    The other problem with this plane is the rear 4 seats are VERY tight, so much so that you can not really fit 4 in the back seat. You can fit two comfortably. You need a little more leg room for 4 adults to sit in the back of this plane.
    What are your thoughts about the Saratoga piper?

      Why not just rent a Cessna until you are fully licensed and have a couple hundred hours logged? Have you looked into a company like net jets for private flights?

      Still hasn’t happened, things have gotten better actually. How long are we supposed to wait for your prophecy? This video is cringeworthy, with your complete ignorance, wasting this salespersons time while having done no research of your own. That says a lot about your vision of the future if you put as much effort into that as you did finding out about a plane before showing up and looking like a fool.

    For a lower time student/pilot that can afford their own plane that will meet the needs of a growing family, look at a fixed gear cherokee six or saratoga. If you get quotes, you’ll find retractable gear planes can double the insurance cost esp for a new pilot. Or if you’re comfortable with the risk, get liability only and self insure the airplane.

    Train in the 172, it’s cheaper, then go back and get the high performance sign off for the 182. It should only take a couple of hours to get the sign off. Then buy a 182 and build some time. I had a 182, it was totaled in a tornado. But it was awesome for what your needing to do. You can still haul your friends or family, go anywhere near Florida easily and build that time for the insurance companies

    If you are going to buy a plane. You can afford to have a certified instructor who has hundreds of hours of experience with that exact model you purchased. Get a bunch of hour's built up with him and become very comfortable in navigation, speed, cross winds and all the equipment. I believe you know what you are doing. But be careful those planes are fast!

    Hi John, If you want useful load you may want to consider a Cherokee Six. Mine has a 1565 useful load. I load mine up (a family of four). Fill the tanks, 200lbs of luggage and go. I was currently looking for a Piper Malibu or something with higher performance but I cannot find anything with the useful load that I need in this class of airplanes. Best wishes John!

    WOW been following you for a while and am also a PP/MEL/A&P. Take a look at the Cessna 206 and Beechcraft A36. The 206 is a hell of an airplane. Finish your PP training in your own airplane with a CFI and log a bunch of dual hrs in type. Maybe continue right into your IFR rating. After all of that insurance should be no problem. Worst case they ding you the first year, but by the 2nd yr you'll be golden.

    One suggestions as a Dad myself, I cringe every time I see kids near airplanes. They see them as places/things to explore and honestly do not know the danger they can get into or the damage that can be done very quickly. I believe I can speak for the gentleman that was showing this plane. You could tell he wanted to say please don’t do that to your son, but he was trying to be polite. It’s always a balance between teaching our kids to respect others property while exposing them to new and great things. Congratulations on beginning your aviation journey!

    Look at the C210, It will easily carry your 1000lb load , doing about 150-160 kts cruise. You get them with extra fuel tanks for range or pressurised C210P I’df you want to go high.
    The C210 also offers great landing and take off distances on both gravel and paved runways.

    Cute Family. I took my cooler out for more room. You could take out the seat behind the pilot. Wow, this was two years ago. A Malibu is larger inside but insurance is most likely 7K. It's 43 feet wide. A Saratoga has a better glide than a Lance. A Cessna T303 has more room and costs less but $400 plus an hour. Wow, that current paint is fantastic. Yes, I would just ad a tail decal etc. Did you buy something?

    We have had this plane for a few years now. We love it! Rarely do we take 6 people on long trips because we prefer to save the weight for luggage. We recently took out the middle seats and it really opened up the back for animals and leg room.
    We go to the Bahamas quite often being from Florida also, I highly recommend getting your IFR rating if you’re planning on going to the Bahamas often because they don’t have the same weather towers there and you could get into a pickle or get stuck for an extra day if you’re only a VFR rated pilot.
    Good luck!

    A Beechcraft Bonanza would be a good aircraft for you, the seats are placed in the looking forward and back like the Saratoga but it has much more space for your feet it has retractable landing gear and most models have a Continental IO-550 300hp engine so you are flying fast. It also has a short takeoff distance and a lot of space for luggage. You can find older models for less than $100,000 and newer for less than $300,00

    Have you looked into those?

  • @a8337z
    @a8337z 3 роки тому +2

    Where do we start first I think what you want to do is very doable in the future but you have a lot of work to do first, finish your private in a school airplane that way all the hard landings, touch and goes, full power go arounds and learning to fly is on a training airplane not yours. After you get your private that is just a License to learn and you need to know that at that point you start from zero because now you are PIC. Start Instrument training next. If you want to buy a plane get one that you can insure after your private without needing an instructor beside you. (172,182, Grumman Tiger, 4 seat piper) for me it was a Grumman Tiger that I put 700 hours before going to a Beechcraft A36. Except for instrument training get rid of the flight instructor and start doing cross country flights on your own. challenge your self on each flight to a more complex airspace. If you are in Florida land at a class bravo airport like Tampa International. What you are working up to is building confidence in your flying ability, get yelled at by a controller, complex taxi instructions, fuel and time management for long distance flights. The flights you do by your self give you the ability to learn get confidence and get yelled at with no one else in the plane. Continue to do what you are doing but do the homework to see the advantage or disadvantage of each aircraft for your needs. Don't get hung up about the year of a plane it is a lot different than automobiles a lot of times an older airframe will have a better useful load than a newer one. After get your instrument rating your back at that zero number again and now you need to do flights by your self with weather limitations you can handle. Remember if you want this dream of flying your family to destinations to be real you have to be able to not place your wife and children into a position where they are scared to fly with you, that will kill your dream flat. For me my Plane is a 93 Beechcraft A36 Useful load is 1400 lbs, I do fly with six but it is normally three couples, I'll do 4 some times 5 guys depending on the weight and fuel and if its just my wife and I we can fill her up with 114 gallons and fly from Tampa to Wisconson

    • @ThisisJohnWilliamsHighlights
      @ThisisJohnWilliamsHighlights  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much for that Michael!! I really appreciate you taking the time to give me really detailed advice! When you say getting yelled at - that happened to me today... I took a week off of flying because we were doing ground school and when we came back he gave me a flight plan and I completely bombed, the take off was rough, the landing was rough, he corrected me a ton.. IT was humbling because I felt so much more comfortable the time before this and I started to think I had the swing of things.. nope, back to the drawling board - studying the flight plan now in fact, I am going out with him again tomorrow and he said he will be silent the whole trip and will see if we can move on to the next step or if we are going to spend more time on this.
      On another note, I am shopping for a 182 right now, I agree that is where I should start and maybe in a year or so when I have more knowledge and experience than display that by upgrading to a more complex aircraft.

    Have you checked in Las Vegas? People win big, buy over their price range, and then need to dump good stuff at incredible prices just to get rid of it. Whenever I want anything expensive, I look in Vegas. They always seem to come through. Sometimes immediately and sometimes it takes patience.

    I was enjoying your video until about eh 18:00 mark. That’s when you said you were a 20 hour student pilot. I doubt there is an insurance company in this country that would insure you for that aircraft. Six place... high performance...complex. Nope...nope...nope!
    I love the idea of buying your first plane as soon as possible. I wish I would have purchased when I was a student pilot. Just buy something that you are endorsed to fly when you pass your PPL check ride. There are a lot of nice planes out there that would fit this. Spend a couple hundred hours taking your family and friends all over Florida. Then when you are actually ready, pull out the pocketbook and shoot for the moon!

    Before you commit to a 182, try sitting in, and test flying, a Piper 235, or newer PA 236 Dakota. It will have no trouble lifting your wife, kids, and dogs, while still maintaining a decent clip and range! What did insurance have to say about you purchasing a fixed gear Saratoga? I have flown three of those in my club, and all rock steady, comfortable, long distance cruisers. Put the pants on it and the speed penalty is not worth the extra insurance premium.

    Look at Warrior, Archer, Arrow, Cherokee Six 300, rather than a Cessna, if you are planning to go into the Saratoga or an M600. The controls are more familiar and so is most of the handling.

  • @23aviatorguy

    For a low time pilot the best planes would be a Cirrus, Cessna 182, possibly a Cessna 206. I hear the insurance companies require more flight hours to insure an airplane with retractable gear. And I would be cautious with flying a single engine airplane over big bodies of water. They are capable of flying over water, but for safety reasons you always want an out in case of a emergency.

    Club seating is cool, but it's super inconvenient for hauling adults around. Forward facing seats are much better since the pilot/copilot seats slide forward, allowing the middle passengers to have leg room.

  • @braneden
    @braneden 4 місяці тому

    That plane has four rear seats but yes it would be bad to put four people in the back of that. Unless your wife and little kids. The seating is more if you want to switch seats. For me I'd take the middle seats out ad say it's a limo for four people. That plane can't carry six grown adults or wouldn't be wise to try.

    It takes a lot of time and commitment getting your pilots license and being a first time plane owner. With all that you're doing and with a young family something is going to suffer. You might consider a nice Class A motorhome instead. You can still do all the traveling you want and it's a lot safer. In addition your family would love it as well. My kids and wife loved travelling in our motohome. Make sure you weigh this decision very carefully.

    Hey John,
    I am in a very similar position as you looking for a good 6 seater first airplane. Saratoga is on my short list and I actually test flew that exact Saratoga in Pompano with Alex.
    I see it’s important for you to carry 4-6 adults. What I can tell you, is don’t forget about weight limitations. Useful Load!!
    A single piston six seater will not take 6 adults and a single piston 4 seater will not take 4 adults. If you want to carry 4 adults, you need a 6 seater!!

      I probably need real skills first.. baby steps, hopefully will have my private pilots license end of July and will clock 10 hours a week for 6 months or so and get my skills down and beat up on a plane that can take it before I get something nice and destroy it or myself.

      If you want to make a difference try making better videos; I really tried to listen to VALUABLE INFO, and all heard was you screaming into the mic, then your wife and kid (very beautiful but nothing to do with aviation) and the seller -which was your most important person here- mumbling far from the mic. Also, the Saratoga is a high performance airplane. Not sure it’s a fit for a first ever buy. Good luck and fly safe!

    Cringe. Give up before you get IRS audited for deducting that on your 1040. More worried about price of company logo than any training or size of plane? This is precisely why outfits like insurance won't let you even turn one over.

    Hey bald brother, been watching your videos as they come up in relation to the communism-ification of the US , or at least my fears of if. Especially in California. Regarding the airplane, be careful, it’s not a toy. I don’t want to talk you out of it, but be careful of getting big for britches. It’s not a boat. Every bolt and item in there MUST be FAA approved. Which means 4-8x the cost. Even if it sits for a few months, you must replace items, used or not. Secondly, it sounds like you are relatively low time, and you want to take a crying baby or duded for deals. Those are not great for your piloting growth. You will be pushed to do things you don’t want to do. At 15:40, you let your boy play on the flap and static wic, Please notice the Instructor, he and anyone watching is cringing. you are a nice guy, so, not Captain enough yet. Which means there are lines that you CANNOT allow to be crossed. I know it’s exciting, and I’d love to own one with you and make deals. But, for your sake, but a 172/152, and then fly the heck out of it, with instructors or buddies.. don’t go for long distances, go land and takeoff 1000’s of times. Sitting in cruise doesn’t teach you a thing. If you own it, you can lower your costs. You are nowhere near the point of buying anything at this point. Trust me I say that with love. Focus on stall recovery. Know how and NDB and VOR work. Tell me about what types of clouds those are. What time should you leave? How to deal with Center control, and file an IFR flight plan. The paint on that Saratoga is nice, but, the equipment seems lacking at the quick glance. Your wife should NOT be the decider unless she is a pilot. the seats make zero difference. the cup holders make zero difference. It’s not a boat or car. In the sense that you can jump in and go. There is a reason why 172/152 is so popular. Many have been down this path. Don’t relearn things.. also... many greater men than you and I, have been humbled with their lives. this is no joke.

    This video is confusing as heck. You don't have your PPL yet, and you are shopping for a complex aircraft? If you have your PPL and want to purchase a complex aircraft then you need an endorsement from your CFI who checks you out on that aircraft.... not another license. Get yourself informed.

    TRY A FLYING CAR FIRST (SELF PILOTING)

  • @dforr2981

    So you buy a plane that can do 85% of what you want. Mooney is for those of us that want speed, fuel economy (,I burn 8gph at 150kts), stability and I have family and friends that are 6' and better and they all fit great in my M20J. The guy trying to sell you on this Saratoga is just that. TRYING TO SELL YOU ON THIS PLANE. He's selling this plane right now so of course any other plane would not be as good as this plane is. Why would you take your wife along to look for a plane? She going to look at the seat color not the Avionics. She's going to look at the curtains on the windows rather than how many hours are on the engine. Do you think shes going to help you do a log book review to see if there were any gear up landings? I'm thinking, not so much. This video was lame. Do more research before you go out and look at a plane. Test fly several types. You want 6 seats. Piper 235. Bonanza has a few 6 seaters. Cessna 206 or 210...and leave your kids at home.
    By the way, you will be flying 85% of the time by yourself. Dont believe me? Go to your local FBO on a Saturday. Watch who's going out to fly. It's the pilot and ... himself. Maybe a friend from time to time. Oh, think twice before you take ''Customers'' anywhere. You're completely liable for their safety. One hard landing and you're the filthy rich guy with a plane and they have an attorney on speed dial. Think about a Commercial and Instrument Rating first before you take customers. You must be new to flying and this is a great toy for you. It can be a great tool but you need to do way more research before you buy a plane and if you dont think so... I have a bridge in Viet Nam I'd like to sell you.

    Go twin-engine, even if it means having to save a bit more. Nothing gives you more piece of mind than having that redundancy, especially when you're flying over the ocean. I got my multi-engine rating on a DA62. It's a bit pricey, and I dont know if it's big enough for you, but it's an incredible machine. The best in its class...
