- Bengal Train Accident | Two trains collided in Darjeeling, West Bengal, resulting in 8 fatalities and dozens injured, according to reports. The incident occurred on June 17 when an express train bound for West Bengal's Sealdah from Assam's Silchar, the Kanchanjungha Express, was struck from behind by a goods train near Rangapani station, close to New Jalpaiguri. Two coaches of the Kanchanjungha Express derailed in the crash. Reports suggest that the goods train had overshot the signal before the collision. Multiple teams from NDRF and SDRF are currently at the accident site. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have responded to the tragedy, with Vaishnaw stating that Railways, NDRF, and SDRF are working closely together.

An Agency or a Special Force like the NIA needs to be created to look closely at why such accidents happen and from an internal security angle, to pinpoint or rule out any malafide reason.

These loco pilots are working for 12 hours continuously. 2/3 rd of the vacancies are not filled since 2019. The rail ministry should take the whole responsibility for their incompetence.
