Headspace is absolutely the most important, at least in my opinion. I play at a fairly large church, and there have been times I’ve showed up super nervous and worried about playing poorly. Surprise surprise, with that mindset the whole set seemed bad. Yet if I come in the next week with a positive attitude, expecting to have fun and play well, I could have an identical set to the last one and feel great afterwards. Positivity, boys.
Gabe I have been playing the drums alone in my house for the past ten years. I am no longer satisfied with this type of playing and I am beginning to reach out to other musicians and get out of the house to jam. Shit is starting to get real. I auditioned for a Weezer tribute band and it went fantastic! I'm about a month into rehearsing with them and the bass player invited me to play with his other band that covers 90's alternative rock! I can't believe how doors have begun to swing open for me. I am having so much fun! I cannot thank you enough for putting together videos for the up and coming. I really appreciate your videos they are very helpful and you are an amazing drummer! I am looking forward to performing live but I'm also scared to death. I know everything will be ok, I play from my heart, it's like an itch that I cannot avoid scratching. Such a fun journey and I cannot thank you enough for all your help. Just seeing you document your journey has given me so much hope. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Great video and tips. No matter how many times I go on stage I get nervous. Never fails. But 15 seconds into the first song it all goes away like it was meant to be. ❤️
It’s insane how no matter how much i have played, the anxiety is super intense untill the first song starts. Then right after i start playing. it all disappears. Gets me every time 😫😆

Good Morning! Basic question here. What is the terminology when (in music or a song) the "1" or "down beat switches to the "3"? (eg) 1' 2 3 4, 1' 2 3 4, 1' 2, 1' 2 3 4, 1' 2 3 4 ..... Thanks
thanks for video bro. in a video shoot today and tomorrow and first little bit felt stiffer and then loosened up as the playing sessions went on. Playing externally takes a bit getting used to. I kinda consider incorporating head bob or head movement is like adding a 5th limb. I don't move my head much when i play but the director was asking for more and eventually got more comfortable with it. All in all solid day though. Thanks for the tips, gonna use as aid for tomorrow. Cheers!

Gabe I could totally relate with you as I am a part of my school band and I usually stretch out before the performances although people tell me that what I'm doing is stupid I tell them that being a drummer is being a whole lot different as we have to use our whole body and great video bro
I wanna share my first stage performance to you guys! It wasn't the best experience but it's fair enough for a start It's a contest at school called "Battle of the bands" then my school borrowed a drum set at a church soo i used it but it doesn't have a drum rug or even a carpet so throughout the song it keeps going away from me which is bad but it's not too bad for me soo the first mistake i made is i didn't look soo happy while playing that time, the thing is i'm soo focused and i'm looking around to the audience and my bandmates but i forgot to smile and feel the music i'm just too focused on my drumming but the results are good! I did it not perfectly but i didn't lose my timing and also the bassist and just like that we won! Thanks to GOD for giving me the opportunity! I wish these opportunities just keep going to my life!
Well done brother ... And from now on keep remembering that you smashed it at that gig without a your own gear.... Just imagine how great you will be next time with all your own kit to play on ... You will rock the roof off ....👍

This has helped me alot, my first performance with my band is today and i was terrified. I still am a tiny bit but this video helped so much

Having fun is usually not even on my goal list when I play live. I'm always so hung up on not rushing or dragging I forget almost everything else. :(
