My dad was an electrician on the ship for four years during Vietnam War John McCane was on her to. He was also on her during that fire he said it was a mess.
Man i hope this is not polluting the oceans by any means..............
That was a bone of worry right from the begging. EPA was on scene every step of the way. Anything remotely construed as a hazard was either dismantled and pulled out or was scrapped off. Then bagged and shipped out to the closest super site for disposal (Dragon box incinerator) or buried.
They towed her to Texas and spent two years gutting the asbestos, which was everywhere and clean out fuel tanks, they planned the sinking years ahead of time..... FYI
My dad served on the Oriskany while on the west coast in the early 50's
Also showed USS America CV66 as the Oriskany
You’re a miss pronouncing the name of the carrier it’s the Oriskany
No problem as USA prints Trillions of Dollars ......
A fine fighting lady she was!
Riskiny, really, I served on her when some of this went on, in '75 she was in drydock in Long Beach, all the boilers were gutted, rebrick the fireboxes all new tubes, black gang vets know about that, conversion to navy distillate from bunker oil, new oil pumps, but she was a work horse, pronounced Orisk-inny... certainly not riskany, please do some research about a good old boat you want to badmouth, bad mouth the politicians who spent 10s if millions on a ship passed her prime, but show some respect to the ship that served nearly 30 years in our navy, but I will agree that she was a money pit, but it's no fault of the ship and the men who served in her... just your usual politician's ways of making money...smh back then and again now....
So what happened 18 years later? Nice history of the boat, but the title of this video is an example of trash titling
Why do I see a lot of Nimitz-class carriers in this story??? I even see a Russian SB-2 bomber, lol...
being raised in NY . the person who narrated this video had me confused . being in the USA navy at the start of Vietnam i did not recognize the ships name which he pronounced as ( or a scony ) instead of the correct pronunciation of ( O RISK Ka Ne ) which at the time the video showed the ship bell I then knew which aircraft carrier he had been talking about. this narration needs to be re-done with the correct pronunciation!
Could watch because you butchered the name.
That's what happens when you have a computer read your copy.
When you use a computer to read and narrate your script you get horrible mistakes like this as well as a weird voice cadence.
