    INCLUDES:
    Starlink Gen3 Antenna
    Kickstand
    Power Adapter
    50 Foot Ethernet cable
    Wi-fi 6 Router
    thank you for this. Kept trying to find out the length of the included cable that no one seems to list it; not even Starlink themselves for whatever reason.

    I guess the reason why Gen 2 lacks the ethernet ports is because of the supply chain issue, not a mere cost-cutting attempt. Nice to see it has two now.

    I like a lot of the engineering. I do question the ruggedness of the mounting hardware. And they don’t offer a grounding which is required by NEC code at the point of entry of the house. Seems easy since they are using Ethernet. An Ethernet lightning arrestor with a grounding screw to bond to the common communications ground of the house. I would also install a ground rod to take any direct strike into the earth below the lightning arrestor.

    I wonder if the new router would accept 48V rather than 57V. Would be excellent for mobile installations if you could power it from your 48V LiFePO4 system! I hope someone can test the DC Input voltage required. Too bad you cannot use USB-C PD 3.1 -- 48V at 5A would be 240W.

    How does this one hold up to wind? With how easy that mount came out of the back of the dish I am just envisioning a horror story with it mounted to a stand or something and a wind gust hits at just the right angle to cause the mount to flex and pop out

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  5 місяців тому

      I made it look easy, but that's only because I knew to apply upward pressure on the two tabs that lock it into place. Without some concentrated pressure on the two locking tabs, there is no way it slides out. In very strong wind, something on the mount itself is more likely to break first.

    Does it not need the motor for adjustment anymore? Or heating in case of snow?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  2 місяці тому

      It doesn't adjust itself anymore for rotation and angle. It has a set 20 degree tilt, and the user has to manually rotate the dish to the correct position during the initial setup. The app has a tool that makes it very easy. Takes like 30 seconds. Removing the motors saved a lot on manufacturing costs and repairs.

    Does this new kit have faster download/upload speeds (internet speeds, from dish to router) than gen 2? Or is the main improvement just the router with WiFi reach?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  6 місяців тому +2

      Mainly the Wifi performance, but the antenna itself has higher gain, a higher field of view, and a bigger power supply. Don't expect faster internet speeds, but there are slightly enhancements to reliability and the antenna itself.

    i just did my unboxing yesterday and i am very disappointed in the packaging. i mean, just look at it 00:09. gen 2s was very safe. you could just wrap the box with watertight wrappings and tie it up with ducttapes and it becomes a backpack for carrying. gen3s is pretty much just a laptop box.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  6 місяців тому

      The Gen 3 packaging, with the tear off opening design, doesn't make it suitable for re-use without a lot of tape and effort. I'm surprised they haven't released a Gen 3 case or backpack yet, honestly. I think we will see a Gen 3 carry case in the future, though.

    Can this router still run the dish with PoE if I were to buy the router on its own and run a cable up to my gen 2 dish?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  5 місяців тому +1

      No, it can't power the Gen 2 dish on its own. Gen 2 and Gen 3 use different voltages and cable connectors. For use with Gen 2, the Gen 3 router must be treated like a 3rd party router, hooked up via the Ethernet Adapter and with the Gen 2 router in bypass mode.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  8 місяців тому +3

      Yes it is compatible, but you have to set it up like a 3rd party router with Gen 2, using the Ethernet adapter and bypass mode on the Gen 2 router. It cannot replace the Gen 2 router in terms of powering the Gen 2 dish. @StarlinkHardware  5 місяців тому +1

      Depends on where you buy it from. If you purchase it in the US from a private party or an authorized retailer, like Best Buy, it will come without a subscription. You can then activate it anywhere you want that has service. If you buy directly from Starlink, it comes activated with a US-based plan, so you would need Global Roam to use it in Germany. You can cancel and transfer the equipment to a new account in Germany if you wish, but you have to wait a minimum of 90 days before Starlink allows you to do that transfer.

      I have Starlink - Gen 2 - and have been satisfied with the antenna (annoyed at the proprietary connectors and lack of a built-in ethernet port on the old-tech router, though). The motors are what makes installation so simple. The kickstand approach certainly makes this a "pay the same, get less" proposition. Good for SpaceX, not so much for the customer.
      Of course, customer satisfaction and concern for the customer's experience is way, way low on the list of SpaceX's priorities. For cryin' out loud, they don't even have phone-based tech support! Not to mention the variable price based on where you live approach to bleeding the customer.
      If you have no other decent internet access options, Starlink is definitely the best option available. Sad but true.
