- In "Ronnie's Mower Reserve", Taryl goes over how to flip this garbage picked STIHL hedge trimmer he found and turn it into money. This thing needs some work but Taryl's got the know-how in order to make it happen. Before and After the lesson, local scammer Ronnie is at it again trying to "look out" for your best interest. This time he wants you to invest in precious metals in the form of vintage lawn mowers and mower parts. Be sure to avoid "Ronnie's Mower Reserve" if you want to keep your hard earned money. Another funny, yet very informative, how-to video from the kings of small engine comedy.

Taryl the folks that complain how you do things are jealous of your customer base and how wonderful you make everything so anyone can fix their own stuff ! I love your channel and all you guys . Just keep doing what your doing ITS GREAT !!!
Again, Experience and Common Sense accomplish a practical and economical service and repair. Kudos to the camera man/editor for clearly and effectively showcasing Taryl's talent and experience. The sound effects are the icing on the video. Ronnie was true to form as always. Best to Taryl and family. .. Thanks for sharing.👍
Rebuilt a number of these small carbs, old ones where simpler. The spring and ball down the hole adjust mix at light load and high load. If the spring goes weak wrong fuelling it does not run right. At 20 bucks for replacement carb not worth the special tools and work to rebuild it. Diaphragms gaskets and hand primer yea five or six bucks. Make sure you note where the gaskets go with regards to the diaphragm. Fuel lines rot out on all of them.
I gotta say, that Ronnie is getting so polished and professional, I expect him to have his own channel on cable TV. Just like QVC and all. Maybe call it RFN for Ronnie's Financial Network. I think he could sell ANYTHING!
Best part,,happy-dance. "Theirs yur dinner!"
Ronnie is such a good greasey scam guy. Thanks for the laughs!😂
Good to watch someone with common sense and economical saving to take equipment thrown away to bring it back to life for more good use thanks for the videos I enjoy watching them
There is nothing I like more than curb treasure!
I just picked up 2 really decent push mowers along side the road with a free sign yesterday. Briggs and Stratton flatheads. I never had one NOT run.
@chaotic twig I will get one with a death rattle now and then, but you are right. They always seem to run.
Got a very nice craftsman rider at the curb. 75$ in one new spindle they broke ,2 blades and a battery. The mower and engine bay was clean like new. Gave it to my son for Christmas a few years ago. I’ll do that all day.
@John Anthony I am jealous just thinking about it. 🙂 I have never gotten a curb rider, I get mostly self-propelled mowers in my neighborhood.
@@GuysPlayingWithTools 1st and only rider. I jumped it off and it purred. Couldn’t knock the grin off my face. I guess they hit a stump wrecking the spindle where blade mounts. Was missing that blade. Bad battery so must be junk right lol. I look at that drive way every time I pass it. Came with 3/4 tank of gas. If not for my son I would have 400 bucks in my pocket with that one.
I just bought a lot of these 4 mix machines from a municipality, all were "Deadlined" I cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, adjusted the valves. They all fired right up, some had cheap gear boxes that had locked up, and wouldn't run at all. So I removed the gear box, and they ran like a dream! We got 15 FS90r string trimmers and they all run perfectly. It's crazy that people will throw away such expensive equipment, for something as cheap and easy, as a carb rebuild.
Yea, government 'mentality', we'll just abuse/not maintain then replace- after all, the tax payers are footing the bill. I scored 3 Stihl 2 cycle leaf blowers like you did, but from our "state surplus" several years back. $40 for all 3. Flunky at cash register comments "tag says they don't run". Said yup I read that. But all had compression and was sure they made zero effort to run 100% gasoline. Soon as I got them home, took limiting caps off all 3 and had running in a couple hours. Ran years before finally had to start replacing diaphragms.
You can also put a zerk fitting to grease gear. I use Lucas Marine Blue waterproof grease in these and weed trimmer heads
Hush Ronnie Robber.... I've a John Deere LT160, 21yrs old in mint condition. It's not appreciated in financial profit yet you Dope.
Taryl keeps me educated and I repair anything it needs along with maintenance. Thanks Taryl!
That's one of the most interesting and useful videos you have done, knowing how to turn trash into treasure is for me an appealing part the small engine business.
We bought a stihl pole saw several years. I always wondered why it sounded so weird. Not even the dealer told me it is a 4 stroke. Oh well.
I'll take apart anything so long as I have my phone around to take pictures. Problem is when you have to order parts they usually arrive a day or two after you've totally forgot how it goes back together.. unless you have pictures.
Lucky if they even show up in a month
Not enough light to see what you are doing. Thank you
Taryl found gold! Love finding equipment this way!
I have that type of Stihl trimmer, and they are an awesome cutter. Mine appears to be a slightly newer model with some very minor changes, Take the time to lube the cutter before use, and it will last forever. These beasts are always easy to start, normally on the first pull.
"Waste not, want not " my grandmother would say. These are great videos when a basically sound piece of equipment is returned to good running condition after being tossed into a dumpster. New Stihl equipment is anything but cheap in our area, so if a good reliable repaired piece of equipment is available, someone will be very happy. I bet a new Stihl pole pruner is pricey. Thanks
Great find. That's a neat tool....
That's actually a finger-remover 3000, by the way.... Orthopedic Hand Surgeons and ER Docs & Nurses are very familiar with that thing..... Ohhhh yes.....
I actually had a guy working for me who tried to remove a stuck stick...without taking his finger off the trigger (the "safety" was stuck because of something else he did). It was a long day waiting in ER.
You guys are rising the bar in your tutorials and comedy skits, tanks for sharing...
Ronnie is right, the new plastic mowers are junk-I have an old magnesium deck mower stashed away, in case I move back into a house with a small yard-if not, I'll push it to the curb, and a Grass Rat will pick it up and hit the jackpot!
😂 I wouldn't want Ronnie watching my stuff LOL😂
My dad was using one of those, the short reach one and got his finger in it!!!! OUCH he said ya gotta take me to the ER!! I told him your supposed cut the hedge not your finger dummy, he didn’t get the humor in that statement? Ten stitches later he was ok, then guess who was trimming the hedges!!
thanks Taryl! and yes Chaka Khan is priceless! " i feel for you " is still one of my favorites!
I love watching Taryl go through engines and carburetors
Nice garbage find you got it running better than new.
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Truth!!
You have a hedge trimmer to trim bushes when I used to clean commercial buildings I use to show up at my girlfriends house with an up right vacuum before work and say I'm here to clean your carpet🤣
I find that Stens has been upping their game lately, I have been ordering more and more from them, and not just because I'm in the catalogue lol😉
Lol. Page 48 2022 catalog. That’s pretty awesome!
@@tatersalad2067 yup that's me lol
I've been dealing with them for years, but I've found the opposite. There have been a LOT of parts that I used to get from them that I can no longer get and have to find elsewhere. I do like the fact that they have a printed catalog, though... makes finding parts for outside the box use case scenarios much easier!
Ronnie made coffee shoot out my nose, I was laughing so hard and my wife got real mad at me, haven't had so much fun in a while. I watched taryl closely and followed every step, but mine STIHL won't start. Thanks guys for another excellent video.
Lots of Stihl out here in NW Alaska.
Have a old weedwacker powerhead looks like the one you just went through.
Your video's are great!
Start fluid on unknown unit to see if it at least has compression to run.
Ice fishing augers out here cost allot, One spring cleanup I trash picked one thinking Id save a few bucks.
I set it in the shed and got busy forgetting it for a few years(5) then went to see what was up with it.
It had thrown a rod and blew a hole in crank case.
The one side I hadnt looked when I picked up the auger.
That's a nice score. It came to the right place.
That dually tractor was f'n cool!
Great fix of a supposed to be junk hedge trimmer Tarly, well done 👍
I have a small auto repair shop and there are tons of part stores in my area. Me personally I have no problem paying a couple extra dollars if the customer service is good. I mainly deal if 1 part store because they really go out of their way for me. One time I had to get a vehicle done so I had to stay late. The part store was closing in 5 mins and I really needed a part to finish. The manager said he could bring it to me own his way home. So if Tarly has good customer service im sure he has no problem selling parts and its not ripping people off. Now adays its hard to find good people at stores. It seems like everyone has lost it.
Where do you buy your Carb Spray from for someone who uses it alot. Also what fuel line do you recommend for 2 cycle engines that doesn't get hard and brittle?
Fuel vent goes bad on those real frequent
Yep 👍
The man with the "CoalGate" smile always amazes me with his knowledge.🤔
Ahh dumpster diving, should be a Olympic sport. Great find for the do it selfer.
16:28 I accidently used Zama carb spray on my Walbro carb one time. It didn't ruin it but when I was done I had a Zama carb instead of a Walbro. So...needless to say, I had to buy a new Walbro carb.
Rode hard and put away wet. Ethanol shitz everything up. Actually bought spare carbs for my generator , chainsaw, and riding mower. The carbs sometimes are not much more then the kit. Just video taking apart if your not very familiar with throttle and spring holes.
picked up a fs55 out of my neighbors trash 10+ years ago threw a carb on it and still running it to this day lol
1 man’s trash is another man’s treasure great find…👍👍
That's was real good Ronnie... Good job... Love y'all's videos....
I was talking to my father in law this weekend and mentioned I was working on the "carbetrator" on my lawn tractor. I didn't even notice I said it until he started laughing asking what that was.
Taryl used his new weed eater holder.. worked great
Taryl, that's your dumpster...
Great fix-up! Enjoyed that. Ronnie's a star😂👍
Best ronnie skit yet!! You guys are are really the best!
Omg Ronnie lmao. I have been using my Mr. Bandfile for touching up cutting surfaces like that, works great. Good save on the the stihl Taryl!
Alittle love, alittle hard hard work, and common sense turning used junk into money. Not to mention recycling the tool stopping it from ending up in a land fill.
16:25 never use carb spray on those carbs. It swells the rubber in the check valve and becomes a headache. I always use the ultrasonic cleaner for those.
Great how to on sharpening too!!! Thanks!
Taryl. I'd love to fine one of these for free that need some TLC. Have you ever used Tygon tubing for replacement gas lines? The Tygon holds up a lot better to the gas than the stock rubber gas line. Stens carries it and I think McMaster carries it too.
It's pricey.
Yes I do use the tygon fuel line I have all the different types and brands of fuel line. It's ok it gets hard as a carp over time and shrinks then leaks.
Im starting to think Ronnie’s right about the mowers and CD’s😅
Awesome job, nice find.
Outstanding.
Nice save from the recycle bin. Typical Stihl, runs good again with a fuel system service.
Thanks Taryl, i learned another tip from your video, I just learned how to sharpen my hedge trimer. Thanks
Thanks for your help.
I seen a pole saw on the floor. I don't think I ever seen a video of you service one of those. I may have missed it if you have. But I in joy your videos Thank.
Whoever plays Ronnie is an excellent actor😅
You are a genius at small engines and large motors to.
I found that exact hyper tough mower in the garbage, I cleaned out the crappy plastic carb and it runs great now.
Never find stuff like that around where I live.
People hang on to stuff until the last little string of life is left.
Too many people do the same thing, they fix it or know someone who can do it on the cheap for a favor or trade something.
I typically do a superficial cleaning before I take the carb off. It saves me from inserting dirt as I get into the carb itself. Usually saves me a bit of work cleaning stuff that doesn't have to be there.
Love Ronnie 🤣
Great job again Taryl, your the of equipment repair.
There's one of these 4 mix Stihls at work and as soon as it reaches operating temperature it starts revving like crazy. I'm assuming a vaccum leak but is it possible for this to happen from incorrectly set valves?
I wouldn't trust Ronnie as far as I could throw him. Wait, Taryl throws Ronnie over the fence so now I don't trust him at all. It's amazing what you can find dumpster diving. 😃 Nice job fixing that Stiltch hedge clipper.
Cotters.. Cotton...lady Devine....it's all coming to a realization.. omgosh.
Big Ash... Oshkosh B'Gosh...
I'm starting to smell some deep dark trouble. I hope the eggman comes by soon -
The reality is, once you put parts and labor in this, and try to sell it, it is as wash. Just got one in the shop mask week. It is a Still KM 56 hedge trimmer.
Looks like somebody had put the metering diaphram on backwards. 8.50.
Great job taryl👍love your videos.
I bought a carburettor which leaked past the check valve because it Only had Loctite holding it in & the fuel ate it away so I had to buy another carburettor.
My solution to that problem is don't buy a carburettor or many other lawn equipment parts from a Muscat !
As always..... LOVE IT! Thank you for the great videos!
Love it! Keep up the great work!
There's Your Dinner!
Keep Feeding Us Taryl
I love these videos you guys our great with your video productions Ronnie is hilarious. You guys have a great week.
Lil Johnny could use those trimmers to trim Gwampas rose bushes!
THAT'S SO TRUE TARYL, ONE MAN'S JUNK IS ANOTHER MAN'S TREASURE. AND THOSE STIHL ARE EXPENSIVE, EXSPEACILY THE 4 STROKE. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A FOUR-STROKE. I'M SICK OF THE 2 STROKE WEED WACKER'S.💥 THANK YOU TARYL.
had one similar to this with the primer bulb deteriated, the carb kit was as much as a new carb so I just replaced the whole unit, problem fixed . all fuel goes thru the bulb , so if its cracked it will have bubbles in it and will run erratic
Nice fix Taryl is there anything you can’t fix that old leaf trimmer found a good home and there’s your dinner
I used to be surprised at the things people throw out just because it doesn't run any more, I'm thankful for people that would rather throw away than fix. I have picked a few things and turned them into cash. 😊
Maybe it fell off a maintenance truck, and from there a road worker threw it away. It looks new inside but beat up on the outside. And hedge clippers that consumers buy are a lot smaller, they don't need a lot of reach.
I use clear oxygen hose, They have the small one and the bigger one, Works great and can see if fuel is flowing.
Those diaphragm kits list for $9.14 from Stens. If anybody accuses you of ripping them off at $6, I'd tell them to go buy their own kit somewhere else, then.
Stunned at what people throw away these days. I'll give ya $300 bucks for it, just as she sits. What say? Those things are outrageous when new. Great to see Ronnie again! The old shyster. He's such a total hoot!
nice synopsis on how the carburetor works on these small engines. Love the sound affects and am kind of grooving on the banjo solos. I just tuned up my Stihl hedge trimmer and it runs like a raped ape, (upside down too.)
Nice, .... I never saw an extended one like that one before.
I always take the grease plug out and put a grease zerk in its place even on weed eater heads.
Who needs Charles Schwab. Ronnie's got you covered.
Great Job well done 👍👍👍
I WAS THINKING BONZAI WHEN YOU TRIMMED THE LAST PLANT ...
I have done these and get them running and when its gets hot it bogs and dies. Meaning one or more of the crank seals are leaking and it's all for nothing. It's a gamble on any old 2 stroke equipment. That's why it's usually in the dumpster.
Yep it’s eather completely tare down or pure hell, then back in dumpster
Old two strokes generally need crankcase seals
Hey good question that nobody probably has thought of will echo or stihl warrantee a carburetor that does that because of the cheap adhesive or because they don’t service carburetors or fuel issues under warranty because it’s technically “lack of maintenance” and the customer is screwed?
Good job TARYL.
ronnie is more right than you know. a good old machine is worth more than a new POS unit that wasn't worth bringing home on day one. you can repair an old one, newer models not so much.
Brand new!
Mower Medic 1 has done a few videos about these in the past.
"O" no it's a zero. Thanks for your stickers. Cheers from Australia
I have a old Honda lawnmower and I put that double blade they have on it and now I get a vibration what should I look for it’s also self propelled rear bagger has small amount of vacuum so the bag doesn’t get full of grass. ? Puzzled 😮
