  • Integrating CO2 capture in pulp mills - effect of increased conversion of biomass feedstock into products
Pulp and paper mills emit large amounts of #biogenic #CO2, which could be captured and permanently stored to create negative emissions and thereby contribute to #climate mitigation. However, the #pulpandpaper industry also has many other opportunities to contribute to energy and climate transition thanks to its #renewable, #biobased feedstock.
If the feedstock is better utilized, for example by extracting and valorizing side streams from the pulping process, this can be used for production of biobased chemicals, material or transportation fuels that can replace fossil-based resources in other sectors. A development in this direction would, however, affect the potential and consequences of integration carbon capture at the mills.
In this webinar, Elin Svensson, Senior Researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, is going to look at the integration of a carbon capture process in a conventional chemical pulp mill. She compares this to integrating the capture process in the same mill, but assuming the mill has also taken strategic steps towards increased biomass conversion into products.
