First concert in my life was Sheila E and Lionel (Dancing on the Ceiling tour). She was AMAZING!!

She's just a legendary talent! She also used to do a great trick where she flips a drumstick in the air, spins, catches it and continues singing!! Obviously she couldn't do it in that second half because those sticks are plugged in. I have this album - Sister Fate was another single I loved. Think how inspirational it was for girls to see this (I was 13/14 when this song came out) - the definition of fierce. Is that Lisa Coleman of Wendy and Lisa on keys? Anyone know? Shelia E's family were all incredible musicians - and Wendy Melvoin, who also played in Prince's band (The Revolution) - her dad was a famous jazz pianist session player, Mike Melvoin, who played with Tom Waits among other notables.

Wow. That was one heck of a time in music. We had just come off of Michael Jackson's Thriller days and now it was Prince's turn with all the talented people around him.

Wow Sheila E. what a beautiful talented woman. No wonder that Prince kept an eye on her. The 80s had a lot of talents in the music charts. That's why I always answer to people who ask me for my opinion on Taylor Swift - the "greatest pop musician of all time" - she would have been just one of many artists in the 80s.

Sheila E is an amazing talented performer! She's part of the legendary Escovedo family of talented musicians. Her brother, percussionist Pete Escovedo, is the biological father of Nicole Richie who was adopted by Lionel Richie and his first wife, Brenda. Enjoyed the reaction!

You would really enjoy the beginning of the Prince movie “Sign o’ the Times” - there’s an official video for it (title track) and it opens with a drum line marching in, featuring Sheila, and it’s really cool!

A friend of ours who runs a monthly film series in Brooklyn is showing 'Sign o' the Times" in January - I never saw it in a theater so I am really excited!

Sheila E is the real deal from a Musical Family, check her & Prince performing together. She was in his band playing on a drum set as the Drummer, they were great Performers.

Sheila dropped a new song earlier this year where she shows off her drumming skills. It's a cover of "Bemba Colorá" a song made famous by the late great Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz. It's a collaboration with Gloria Estefan and Mimy Succar. The song is in Spanish ua-cam.com/video/VkOu6mE07-8/v-deo.html

I have a vague memory of this song but this video was so great to watch. When the video came out about the "We are the World" video and how she knew she was only included to try to get Prince to show up I felt bad for her. She is so talented on her own. Thanks for reacting to this!

Today, Esperanza Spalding is a woman who sings and plays the upright bass. She hung out a lot with Prince as well before he died. She is more of a Jazz artist where it's highly entertaining just to see her on stage playing an instrument taller than she is. lol

Also - that white mink coat is a nod to the video in which she famously walks through the streets wearing it. It does look like (checking her second album Romance 1600) that's probably her own keyboardist.Susie D. Loved this whole reaction. Thank you!!!!!!

It’s crazy because most people don’t react to this and this is an amazing performance.

Phenomenal all around performer, but Sheila is a percussionist/drummer.......FIRST! She's playing the timbales here, but if it has skins, she plays it!

Here's another female drummer you'll enjoy, Emily Estefan, the daughter of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. She's performing live on stage at a tribute/awards ceremony for her parents: ua-cam.com/video/djLJA7cAvt0/v-deo.html
