  • There is an issue when you use Corona with Hair and Fur, it doesn't like taking the colour of the bitmap and usually bleaches it. That's okay, we just have to make some adjustments so that we get the bitmap showing through how we need it to.
In this video I show you how to create a rug with 3DS Max and Corona and how to get the colour of the bitmap showing through.

The easiest way to fix the issue of grayish bright color is to add corona color correct node and apply a gamma of 0.45 and use it only on hair
this compensates the buggy use of default 2.2 gamma in the scene

Great video but is there a way to mantain glossiness and reflections with this method? I tried it for a "palm roof" or "thatched roof", the ones you might find in tropical beaches, but the material looks really dull because is only the bitmap that appears in the tip and toe of the hair, not the material.

Thank you for this important lecture ..but the resolution video is low ..it is only 360

Sorry, youtube was processing the video still. I always upload in 2560 by 1440, but sometimes it takes youtube a little while to process the higher resolution video. I've just checked and it's now finished processing and at the higher resolution. :)

You just had to reduce the Hue Variation & Value Variation parameters ))

I have a scale problem when merging an object with max's fur and hair. The objext scales is in (mm), but i have a project in (m) and when I merge it the fur gets gigantic. I can try to fix the scale with the parameters but I can see that tue guides won't change their size.

Yes, that's a problem. It might be best to just try to recreate the hair in your scene. Or change your project parameters from m to mm and then import. Or you could try to change the parameters on the imported hair, making it 1000 smaller than it currently is.

Another thing you could try is merging it into the scene without changing the scale. So, bring it in 1000 time bigger - then you could try the rescale tool in max and see if you rescale it the hair changes scale correctly. It might work. I think it's the best bet.

Strange video ;) You talking in the begining that those guys from Corona forum write that it's impossible to do it or that the solution is not that good, when right at your video on 00:24 you can see them discussing ONLY the fact that , unfortunately , it's impossible to use CoronaHairMtrl , using the "Custom Shader" (because UVW mapping isn't transfered from mesh to shader) and you have to use "Tip and Root Color" options in the H&F material itself.
And then you go with 25 minutes long video slowly getting to exactly the same point and solution and saying in the end "Oh, Custom Shader doesn't work, don't bother" ;)
    not good :\
