Marty, thank you so much for sharing such an intimate memory and for displaying to us that beautiful box that your stepmother left you what a blessing.
Hullo Marty, thank you for sharing your treasures with us! I was given an older fountain pen and it was constantly skipping or clogging. I found that the “feed” had bits of old dry ink and they would break loose and it would work then not! I found a friend who had an electro sonic cleaner and it broke off the dried ink and it worked so much better after the sonic cleaning! I had cleaned the feed with a tooth brush, I would have sworn that I had cleaned it completely! Nope the sonic cleaning was truly needed. I purchased the “Triple Tail” pen from Noodler’s and it is a wonderful fountain pen! I run the Platinum Carbon Ink through it and as long as I use up the ink or wash it out, if I will not be using it right away, it is ready to go next time, just add ink and draw! It was sweet hearing your dad’s music and seeing the artworks too. True treasures to behold!
@@mjpete27 This was super helpful and much appreciated. I might have to find someone with a sonic cleaner and just make sure I do as you say when it comes to cleaning. I would love that triple-tail Noodler and have been eyeing it. Thanks for the kind comments about my Dad’s music. He would love that people are enjoying it.
Man, I can't see the keys to type my eyes are so watery. This is so touching, thank you for sharing and for not letting her treasured supplies go to waste. I'm very sorry for losses. Your father's music is wonderful. What a beautiful video.

Such a wonderful tribute! As I am a healthy nearly 70-yr-old, I’m trying to get my grown kids, hopefully at least 1 out of 3, to embrace the fountain pen hobby, or at least appreciate the collection. As the legacy of my art, paintings, daily journals and supplies have grown, o want my children to inherit them and think fondly of my hobbies. My journals will hopefully be read and hear my voice in reading them. I’m happy for you to have that box!
@@sunnycharacter I am absolutely positive that your kids will appreciate your art and journals. I love that my Dad and step Mom Janey passed these things on to me for the next generation. We are all just temporary stewards. 🙏❤️😊
@ That’s a fact! Although I enjoy it, I am thrilled to be able to leave them more than property and baubles. It’s the things our hands created and the thoughts in our old heads they will treasure.
Thanks for letting us go down memory lane with you. You can tell the supplies were loved and taken care of. And your dad’s music, and his art, wow. P. S. It looked like one set of ink refills had the old Hobby Lobby price sticker on it. I haven’t been they in ages but they probably still use them. This was special.
@@essietangle9931 Hi Essie - My Dad would be thrilled that you liked his music and art. He was very intense about his music but not in a way that was isolating, he just practiced relentlessly. He taught me a lot about art, but my Mom was my full-time art teacher when I was young. They were both Artists and both were hard workers. I loved them both and they were great people. Thanks for the kind words as always my friend.
@@owingsart great you had a wonderful family. My mother walked out the door when I was a toddler and never came back. We were raised for several years by my grandparents. Loved them so much. About the 3rd grade my dad remarried. That’s another story. It all taught me to be tuff. Later in life my husband taught me to love. We’ve been married 50+ years.
That was a beautiful video, Marty, thank you for sharing your family’s story, art and music with us! I also share my love for fountain pens with my dad and I was able to restore some old ones that he gave me - it took a lot of patience but it was amazing to get them going again and to research their history 😊
@@brigitteitg Lovely to hear from you my friend. Very curious what kind of pens your Dad left you? Were they the very excellent Monteblanc? Or some other marvel of German engineering? 🤩
@ My dad indeed gave me an old Montblanc fountain pen, and I still have mine from school - such an amazing brand! I also have his Pelikan pen from his own school days, a classic German brand for high end school items. I‘m a big Lamy fan too, and I inherited my grandmother’s pen (not an old one though) and filled it with purple ink - her favourite colour 🙂 The pens only have sentimental value but I really treasure them!
4:54 Beautiful music by your dad. by the way, that nib with 5 points is to draw pentagrams, to write music...from the time when buying printed sheets was not usual. Lovely collection. The Lamy Safari clear / demonstrator, cartridges and the converters are worth around 60$ new. You got a good deal. Lamy pens are one of my favourite, indestructible, never dry out. A true loyal companion. Enjoy playing with your new pens!
Thank you for mentioning my Dad's music, that was very kind. Ahhhh thanks for the info on the pen. I had no idea. Happy New Year my friend. Thanks for the all the info.
Happy belated New Year Marty! Thank you for sharing your father’s music as well as memories of your stepmother and her treasures with us! It’s good you can think of them without too much pain now! I know it was super hard for my family to go through my grandparents’ belongings after they passed.
Your showing us the nice pens reminded me of my trying to write Kurrent (German Cursive) - quite complicated because my fingers often don't want to cooperate 🙂 At least I can read the old books using that font. As for the flex nib, I got me a fountain pen meant for shorthand and I like the lines it makes. But writing with a Lamy pen with a 1.1 mm or a 1.5 mm calligraphy nib gives nice lines too. You have a real treasure box there. Her art-journals are beautiful. It's lovely to see you cherish her memory, thanks for sharing it. I wish you a fantastic 2025 🤩
@@3534538 I saw some German script writing when I lived in Germany for a couple years. I used to browse the old books in bookstores and libraries. Not sure they give you access to the books written in the 17th and 18th centuries anymore. I was also trying to learn how to speak German. Learned enough to get by and then I was informed I was speaking low German, so I went on a quest to learn high German, but I never got fluent in it. I managed to learn to read some German before I came back to the US.
8:55 When you get new.pens, always rinse the nib / feed section with clear cold water to clean the dry ink that might still be there. This will help the flow of new ink as well.
Really enjoyed this! Wish I had gotten something like this from parents and grandparents. What a blessing! Loved the nib pen with the metal piece where you hold it! Never saw one like that. Beautiful! Also never heard of pilot mixable colors. Hmmm. What a treasure you received’
