    This November my wife Lauren and I are staying in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where I will be working and surf fishing the beach. In this video we are surf fishing the Playa Los Muertos area of Banderas Bay, Puerto Vallarta, for jack crevalles (which are called yellow tails by the locals).
    One major benefit of the internet is that it allows me to carryon my day-to-day business activities from anywhere in the world without issue. In fact I sometimes find it easier to work abroad than at home, and my productivity will oftentimes increase. For the next couple of weeks I will be blogging from Mexico, where it is currently 80 degrees, sunny and flat calm.
    Video timestamps:
    0:01 - giant jack crevalle blitz!
    1:57 - shoulder to shoulder surf action on the beach
    2:45 - my first jack crevalle of the trip
    3:55 - jack crevalle #2
    7:09 - puffer fish
    8:12 - my wife Lauren hooked up with a jack crevalle!
    9:41 - another jack!
    12:30 - bleeding out the jack crevalles
    Gear and equipment used in this video:
    Van Staal VR50 www.themightyf...
    7' Tsunami 3-piece Travel Rod TSCS703M
    2 ounce silver Deadly Dick spoon www.themightyf...
    20 pound Seaguar Fluorocarbon www.themightyf...
    20 pound moss green Power Pro braid www.themightyf...
    75 pound Tactical Angler power clip

    You cracked the code! I was down in Punta de Mita last January and had the same frustrating experience. Never saw anyone catch one of those jacks (myself included) for a whole week. Then one evening I watched a local guy nail it with the casting net and bring in about 10 in one throw. Did have luck with a Sierra mackerel on a 3” yozuri deep diver mackerel color. Thing that struck me most about the whole trip was the massive amount of trash in the water. Couldn’t go swimming without getting wrapped up in it. Sad what we’re doing to the planet...

    • @MyFishingCapeCod
      @MyFishingCapeCod  5 років тому

      The guys with the cast nets were creaming the jacks this morning. Lots of nice size fish in the 4-6 pound range being caught. Right now metal spoons of about 3-4 inches in length, and 1.5 inches in width are working best. I'd love to get a sierra mack! Fortunately there's no trash in the water where we are. Tight lines!

    Hi there, I will be travelling to PV from Canada in late January. is 20 lb braid and fluorocarbon the lightest you would throw in saltwater settings? where im from is all freshwater unless you head out to the east or west coast.

    • @MyFishingCapeCod
      @MyFishingCapeCod  Рік тому

      Yes that is the lightest I typically use. 30lb is a great all around for most saltwater applications I encounter. Let us know how you do in PV! Gluck!

    Loved your video. Question. My wife and I will be staying in PV on the beach in April. I am an avid angler, live in Atlanta and don't normally have the opportunity to surfcast.
    I have a MH 7' four piece travel rod paired to a 4000 Shimano reel. This really is a freshwater bass setup.
    But, that setup looks very similar to what you were using. Do you think this will work for me in PV at that time of year, or should I invest in a bona fide surfcasting combo?
    Thanks!

    • @MyFishingCapeCod
      @MyFishingCapeCod  Рік тому

      You could use that setup and just focus on casting small baits for smaller fish, like the ones I caught in this video. However depending on the spot it is possible to encounter big jacks and perhaps even rooster fish in the PV area. You’ll probably get spooked if you accidentally hook into one of these big guys!

    Cool video. I was in the area last May and saw locals catching fishes off the surf and wish I had my gears with me. Will be heading back this year and definitely bring my gears with me. Do you carry-on your travel rod or you check-in with your luggage? I heard the airport in PV will not let you carry-on your fishing rod even is travel size and like to double check. Thanks.

    Very cool. I'm headed to PV in February, hoping to get some time surf fishing while I'm there. Any recommendations outside of that spoon you were using? What were the locals using?

    • @MyFishingCapeCod
      @MyFishingCapeCod  5 років тому

      Anything that resembles a 3-4 inch long, 1 inch wide sardine would work well. The 2 ounce-ish Kastmasters that the locals were using worked very well. I would also try to get to Punta Negra, north of Neuva.....I haven't been there personally but I hear that is a good spot.

    I'm going to puerto vallarta the first week of december 2019. Do you think we are gonna catch anything from the beach and if so. What species? Are roosters dorados in the surf?

    • @MyFishingCapeCod
      @MyFishingCapeCod  4 роки тому

      Hey Ruben, I don't think roosterfish will be around during December, but they do frequent Vallarta waters during other times of the year. I was there in mid-November and I caught snappers and jacks from the beach, and mahi about a mile offshore in a boat. I also saw a large Spanish Mackerel taken by a surf caster. I was fishing mostly in the Los Muertos Beach area. Have fun and good luck!
