- Sure Vanark is its official western title, but Astro Trooper Vanark is cooler.
Time for some rail shooting on the PlayStation/PS1/PSX/PSone.

Hey Irish Shun, I don't think I've told you that I really appreciate you recording games with all the original appearance and resolution. Too often when I look up gameplay the people recording it used all sorts of geometry correction and the highest resolution they could squeeze out of their emulator, and it just leaves me wondering what the games ACTUALLY looked like.
Ah thank you! I get why people like playing them in wide screen and upscaling to 4K and what not, but 4:3 and low res is the only way for me 😁
8:23 oh, no that’s Freddy Mercury. He wasn’t going mad, he really turned into a tree
also, it's good to note that three word titles are a staple of mecha genre: Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Police Patlabor, Armored Troopers VOTOMs, etc.
9:51 This might as well be the most impressive video game lava I've ever seen.
I feel like it doesnt matter what the video is about, I like listening to you talk about games lol.
It was a mercy when they took away the mothercare tree, that thing was in absolute bits by the end.
I've never understood complaints about clones popping up on rival consoles. A Star Fox clone on a Sony console gives those guys something to chew on if they don't own an N64!
This looks cool, maybe a bit over ambitious but fun still. Still gotta try Omega Boost as you recommended it! Great review buddy :D
Depends on people outlook I suppose. Some don't like seeing games take any direct influence from other games, but it's pretty much impossible in some cases.
Definately get around to Omega Boost someday you won't regret it! Appreciate you watching as always :)
That lava looks SO GOOD 🤤
This has got "hidden gem" written all over it. Looks real fun.
Really enjoy your game s. I will keep watching
Man i love your videos ive been binge watching them the past week. Your vocie is 🤌
❤
Haven't heard of this one before, and it has swiftly made it to my “to play” list. Cheers for another great video! Your passion and enthusiasm shines through
Really enjoyed this run through. I've never heard of it before but it looks interest as anything - it's such an underrated genre with some real classics! I can't get over how smooth it is as well!
Man it's 2:21am and I'm fuckin steamin
Just came in from the bar. Stuck this straight on. I love it. Lots of love from Tyrone!
Fair play to ye lad, hope you had great night! :)
Omega Boost! I've never heard someone reference that game, let alone as the amazing classic it is. Cool stuff
Ah yes, the mini ball bomb puzzle...honestly tapped out in frustration. Solid video!
Pretty wild the main character of this game is named Shun Shun-san
Sean your videos give meaning to my life 😍
My comfort genre are musou games, especially Hyrule Warriors and One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 & 4, they're just such a relaxing power trip ^^
The disarming section is basically World's Hardest Game before that actually existed but with floaty ice physics.
I love the idea of the story sections between rail shooter stages! I feel like this is something that could be fleshed out even further - y'know, include dialogue trees, multiple endings and such, and... Wait. Am... Am I proposing a Rail Shooter RPG? Moreso than Panzer Dragoon Saga?!
Also, Mario's Picross is my 'quiet evening' game, full stop, so I feel you there.
Lastly - Finally, some sweet, sweet Omega Boost! Yeah, it's couched in a video about another game, but it's finally made a proper appearance! My day has come!
I think you've described the game OG Panzer Dragoon fans wanted instead of Saga almost perfectly.
Was nice to get Omega Boost into a video somewhere, although I'm still keeping it attached to the wheel of games for its longform debut. That'll be a fun day :)
@@SeanSeanson ... Y'know, if I can get a 3D modeller on-board and a Kickstarter up and running, I'm pretty sure my brother and I could make that happen.
And oh, when the wheel lands on Omega Boost... The longform debut will receive longform cheers - probably mostly from me, but still...
I had this one on my radar for a long time, glad to hear it's good
Awesome review, I'm playing this right now...the setting reminds me of xenoblade chronicles x on the wii u, which is a good thing.
Shun Shunsson.
This goes up with Silent Bomber and WipEout Fusion as one of the most unnecessarily expensive games on Amazon, and it’s worse than both of them because at least some sellers will part with it for just about 80 USD. Everyone who’s selling this on Amazon wants hundreds for it. The retro game market is truly volatile
Good stuff, subbed.
10/10 the square reference made it!
Saw your video on potatos channel and had to check your stuff out. Its great
Appreciate the kind comment, thanks so much for checking out the channel :)
Thanks for the upload! You uploading also reminded me to marathon all of your videos. Itll take a day but what a day will this be! :D
I can't imagine marathoning all of them and I made em haha!
Besf of luck 😂
your videos and the playstation 1 are absolutely the best! love the console and finally made a purchase to get this game. It arrived today. Gonna play it as soon as I get home from work!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it 😊
I have discovered a new game to play. Thanks to you.
Thanks for showing me a rail shooter I didn't know about! Let me repay the favor!
A while ago I found a really obscure PS1 rail shooter game that's actually being sold on steam (straight up just an iso file you can use with any emulator since the one it comes with isn't very good hehe) called "Viper", it's a dark (literally) rail shooter where you pilot a pretty cool helicopter with an interesting mechanic where your weapon upgrades accumulate, meaning each time you pick up a laser upgrade then your laser improves, same with missiles etc. I wouldn't call it a very good rail shooter but I liked some of its ideas and bosses. Give it a look if it sounds interesting to you, but if you do for the love of your thumb use a controller with a turbo button XD
PS You earned yourself a sub ;)
And thank you for watching :)
Funnily enough I first came across Viper just a few week ago, as you said it is REALLY obscure, maybe one of the least known PAL releases.
It's really cool to see it on steam even if it's just a straight ISO of the PS1 release, but apparently it's related to Tunnel B1 as well, almost like a pseudo-sequel in a way.
I'll probably get around to making a video on it sooner or later, really seems up my alley!
@@SeanSeanson I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more straight ISO re-releases of games given how good PS1 emulators have gotten recently.
The Steam release of Tunnel B1 actually has both the DOS release AND the PS1 release which is pretty neat.
Finding out that the PS1 had a bunch of rail shooters has been a treat for me so i've been really enjoying your content :D
I do like a good rail shooter, I've been meaning to give this and Gamera a go for a while. Space Debris looks interesting too.
I remember always being inteigued by that one and never being able to get my habds on it. Even online there wasn't much info about it back then and I didn't even find a pirated copy. I would have loooved to play that back then.
This looks like good crack! Pity it didn't come out in the pal region😢 brilliant review man!
Rewatching this I do have to say that I've played Jupiter Strike. I wasn't fond of it, but I did beat it.
I vaguely recall thinking the OST was relatively sleep inducing and needing to allerion roll a lot in later stages.
Also Omega Boost but we already sing its praises enough.
I did play a bit of Vanark years ago but just never went too far in it. Not that it was bad, it just didn't hold me.
I only heard about this game talked about briefly about its story sections, but I didn't know Bit town and Asmik Ace did it. I know them for the Sidewinder games, which are released as Lethal skies in the west. They're janky, slightly simmier Ace Combat clones that I liked.
If you didn't stick your hand in the Mothercare Tree's mouth then you're just wasting everyone's time
Exactly.
Its a game that i have been wanting in my collection for a few years.
The market prices are stupid though.
Japanese shun shunsan? Not bad at all
Yo, I like collection videos, but do you have any plans on covering games from other consoles?
Oh yeah definately. I've been trying to solidify my niche in the PS1 space I guess you could say, but I'll get around to other consoles too... eventually 👀
You know, I beat this game last year but only vaguely recalled the 3D pre-rendered base sections and nothing of the actual gameplay. I did enjoy the robot pal, never forget a good robo pal!
Oh yeah, and FUCK THAT Ball mini game! I save scummed the shit out of that.
3:48
What is the game that shows at 1:57?
Sin & Punishment on the N64 :)
@@SeanSeanson i've watched all the vídeos in this series in a row, man. Love your content, your visual identity reminds me of Thor high heel's Channel. Keep It up!
@@videogameecoisaseria9976 thanks for the kind words friend :)
Would pokemon snap on n64 be considered a rail shooter? Technically?
probably the most literal rail shooter of em of all
bad examples use bilinear
