Flooded House Museum | Before and After Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 бер 2019
- In New Orleans, a house once taken by Hurricane Katrina has been repurposed into a museum for people to see what the aftermath of the storm would have looked like. Artists reconstructed two rooms into a livable space then “Katrina-fied” them and made them viewable from the outside. In this video taken over several months, I show you the before, during, and after.

I'm an actually katrina survivor. This was very hard to watch and yes this is exactly what my home looked like when we came back the funny is my hats I had on my beds pole were still there water made it all the way to the doorceil and the hats stayed blew my mind
Oh wow! That's crazy!
That is an amazing museum. I'll have to write this down and recommend this to tourists when I'm driving Uber/lyft.
Yeah, it’s definitely something people should see
That newspaper sent a chill down my spine.
I was fascinated by that newspaper!!
That's really disturbing. What you didn't mention, and which I found really unsettling, is that this was a densely packed neighbourhood before and now there are hardly any homes at all. Clearly despite the repairs people didn't want to return to live with the wall looming over them...
Oh yeah man there a many neighborhoods like that unfortunately. A very sad state..
Really nice art work. Very moving and definitely looks like a place you don't want to walk in without a mask.
They really did an amazing job!
This is a great idea. I really appreciate this museum. Hurricanes and flooding is no joke. Thanks for sharing buddy I really enjoyed this
Yeah man, this is an interesting and I feel necessary museum.
This was filmed over several months and was an amazing experience to watch these artists hard at work. I’m very grateful for the opportunity! Check the links in the description for the organization that put this together, and for the artist that’s in the video.

That would be scary to live right next to that wall.
Yeah, I’m sure it’s on peoples minds while living there. But, those walls have certainly been super beefed up. Hopefully something like this won’t happen again.
Amazing bro. Definitely brings back memories of Katrina I can remember it like it was yesterday.
Same here.. it was pretty tough to see that, but definitely something people that have never experienced should see
This brings back so many memories when I saw my place for the first time back then
I can’t even imagine, man. I hope time has healed some of those wounds for you and your family. ❤️
Honestly the artist downplays the destruction, I’m positive that it was much worst than that. Also you can’t duplicate the smell of the mold and the waste everywhere. But he does do a fantastic job. It something that no one should ever have to go thru. Damn you, Army Corp of Engineers
Yeah, I’m a little thankful the smell isn’t recreated here
And damn you Ray nagan!
Thank you for sharing another amazing video! It's nice of you to show us how beautiful Louisiana really is! My condolences and heart goes out to everyone that was affected by Hurricane Katrina! It's amazing how these artists turned this beautiful home into a museum!
Thank you! Yeah they did a fantastic job
Ahh why is the sidewalk wet ? Looks like a leak to me... not good
Hm not sure
Amazing piece of work and excellent video. Thanks bro
Thanks Ed! It’s an interesting place
Excellent video! I really liked how you were able to film the before and during with the artists.
Aw thanks so much!! Yeah I’m very grateful they let me come and do that. They did an incredible job!
I wondered what this was. I can see it from Mirabeau when im going to the park and such. All the time. Never knew that.
You should check it out, they did an amazing job with it.
This was incredible thank you. I look forward to visiting my next time in the area.
Thanks man! Yeah you should definitely check it out! It’s pretty incredible to see up close and personal.
Wow! Incredible! I was in Idaho when this happened and I remember seeing it on the news. Devastating!
It was definitely an experience.. so much was lost!
NOLADEEJ I have a Facebook page I started a few years ago that mostly has to do with famous graves, amusement parks, and historical sites...mostly in America. I shared this video to this page and fully gave you the credit for it. I felt that although this heavily affected New Orleans, it also affected the rest of the nation...to those who also have ties to New Orleans, but no longer live there.
Thanks man!
This is so cool and so sad all at once. Those artists are amazing. Hi from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦.
Yeah they really did a great job! Welcome!!
Thanks Noladeej!
Thank you, Barry!
Exceptional work they have done. Thanks for sharing this with us. It was moving. I totally remember watching this on the news. I remember the feelings of having family in New Orleans and not knowing if they were okay!
Oh absolutely.. it was a very tough time for so many people. I’m glad these artists have done this for people that have never experienced it to get an idea of what it might have been like
Awesome Video!
Thank you so much!
Sad but Amazing video....the Artist such awesome work. I will check this museum out
They really did an amazing job. You should definitely check it out!
So many things and people lost😭😭 thanks for this Deej. 💔💙
Yeah, it was devastating.. The positive thing is that our city and its people have come back! Not everyone, there are still lots of people displaced and lots of homes still gone, but as time goes on that gets a little better.
@@NOLADEEJ are there charities you know of that go towards these people and the cities affected?
Yeah there are a few! But do some good checks into them first with the Better Business Bureau. The Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity are really good ones.
@@NOLADEEJ ok cool. I sure will check them out.
That's absolutely insane! I had no idea this existed...
It just opened this past weekend. It’s pretty incredible to see!
This gave me chills because it definitely drives home how badly New Orleans and its people were affected by Katrina. Very cool video.
Wow this was a great idea. It looks so awful after Katrina. Everyone should see this museum. Thanks for sharing!
It's pretty amazing what they did there!
That was very interesting but cool and spooky at the same time.
Thanks man, it was definitely eerie to see that up close
From Church Point, Louisiana! Just found your videos! I loved this! Great job!!
Heather Olivier are you related to the Estillets in Church Point?
Awesome!! Thanks so much Heather!
What a neat museum. I was in NOLA post Katrina but I guess I never realized the canals were higher than the backyard. Wish I would have seen more than I did it’s such a fascinating city
There's a lot to see here. It takes LOTS of visits 😁 when things get somewhat back to normal, you definitely need to come down.
I just saw this 😭 Hey Deej, my house in MidCity had my piano on 1st floor and it looked like someone had smashed it. It was completely destroyed. So it looks like it but being under water for so long I can say that piano wouldn't have been leaning much less standing.
You never know how your life changes after a natural disaster. I know what those families went through being displaced and loosing everything. May God bless us all and the continued healing for all in those areas.
Absolutely.. crazy how things can change so quickly
Wow very interesting!! I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada, I'd love to visit...Great share...Thank you!!
You definitely should! I’d love to visit Canada some day. Any part would be nice lol
I found that newspaper very disturbing to be in a very nicely clean and neat living room
thats a great 1 nolddj,i wonder if you did anymore down there after katrina? i seen differnt ones about 6 flags.
Yeah there are videos out there like that. It’s very off limits now and heavily secured these days
@@NOLADEEJ i saw the one by adam the wook and R&K exploration, vandals was destroying history my friend, its sad bad enough wat happened to the spots, but vandals really destroy the feelings, keep up the job my friend
Interesting before and after. Was thinking they would have actually flooded it to get the proper effect, but then it probably wouldn’t be safe to go in. So it’s kinda strange to see them painting it and everything.
Heh, yeah I think it would become a health hazard after a while :) They did a remarkable job with it.
You should check out Paul Walker's movie HOURS. Its about Paul Walker trying to keep his newborn child alive via ventilator in the hospital as Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans! It's kinda a slow movie but Paul Walker does use his combat skills to keep him and his baby alive from squatters and thugs that would break in the hospital for drugs.
Ive never even heard of that movie but now I want to check it out! Sounds interesting! Thank you!
Great idea for visitors not living near water. Everyone else has seen the real thing, I'd guess. My folks sure have. Cool project. Water though... hell to live away from, hell to live right next to.
Oh yeah man.. for anyone that has never experienced it, it’s definitely something to be seen. I love living next to water, but it does keep me on edge sometimes.
NOLADEEJ Someone should suggest to them this would make a bigger impact if part of some "traveling exhibit." They could buy up a house in parts of the country that don't know what it's like and do it there.
That would be awesome!!
I was in Biloxi on the ms Gulf Coast during Katrina so in most places we more dealt with empty foundations and piles of debris unless you we're going a little further in land or it was a larger structure mainly because we were facing the Gulf of Mexico and it came in like a giant Fist and pulverized everything and then sucked it back out to the gulf it truly looks like an atomic bomb had went off also to this day I can still remember the putrid smell of death which was the worst part and will always be ingrained in our memories of that Dreadful storm and hopefully we never see the likes of again and may all the people that lost their lives including our friends and loved ones in Mississippi and Louisiana rest in peace!
My family once owned a house out there, it wasn’t in the family anymore at the time of the storm though. I’ve driven by the remaining slab of where it used to be several times since then :( very sad how much was lost!
hay can you get me the address for that place so i can go
sorry found it and thank you so much for that!!
🙂 you’re welcome! It’s definitely an incredible thing to see
This is a great idea, but why couldn't they just use a home that was left like that for real, from the actual storm damage 🤔
This home was, but cleared out to make this viewable safely and preserve it without all the real mold and whatever else growing inside.
@@NOLADEEJ gotcha.... And my nephew is a DJ. We call him Deej 😊
When I went there everything was knocked down tho
Inside?
Hahaha I have my own museum from the 2016 flood... And when the 6.5 feet of water water went down to waist deep, and I entered with my camera, you can hear me Gasp: It’s Katrina all over again!
Yeah, I remember people comparing that flooding to Katrina. Lots of similarities unfortunately :( I hope you have recovered from that. ❤️
That's so sad how much nature can take away from you xx
It really is, and how quickly it can happen. :(
So scary as well
You have been tried by twelve good men and true, not of your peers but as high above you as heaven is of hell, and they have said you are guilty. Time will pass and seasons will come and go. Spring with its wavin' green grass and heaps of sweet-smellin' flowers on every hill and in every dale. Then sultry Summer, with her shimmerin' heat-waves on the baked horizon. And Fall, with her yeller harvest moon and the hills growin' brown and golden under a sinkin' sun. And finally Winter, with its bitin', whinin' wind, and all the land will be mantled with snow. But you won't be here to see any of 'em; not by a damn sight, because it's the order of this court that you be took to the nearest tree and hanged by the neck til you're dead, dead, dead, you olive-colored son of a billy goat!
