Brian, you are my hero, I’m working on a 73 cl-350 and you have been a godsend! I do have lots of questions on where to get parts and such? Any help?

I’m so glad the vids are helping you. Parts kinda depend on what you need. Ebay for replacement core parts, common motor collective for high quality products and amazing customer service, 4 into 1 for lower priced, quality replacement random parts, bike bandit and cmsnl are great for schematics and finding part numbers. Both legit for parts too if they’re actually available. Those are my go-to.

I’m also interested in doing a disc brake conversion, do you know where to find the necessary parts?

I don’t know anything about that. Yet. :)

You can jam the clutch and crank primary pinon gears with a penny or a piece of aluminium.

Really? I suppose if it is a softer metal huh? The manual said to use a wrench on the opposite side. I actually considered jamming something in there but didn’t want to muck anything up. Thanks for chiming in!

@@KeepOnWrenching Have look at this chap - he has a good clear tear down of a 350.

I’m having trouble with my motor, at the same part at 16:25 when you are able to pull the whole housing and pump off. I am able to get the first main drive gear off from behind where the oil filter housing sits, but when I go to remove the basket and pump, I encounter quite a bit of resistance. They are able to move outward just past the remaining drive gear, but I don’t want to force it and end up braking something. The pump is also un-bolted already. Am I missing something? My thought was that maybe there was a certain point the motor needed to be turned over to in order to remove it, but that’s a completely blind guess since this is the first bike I have worked on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Shouldn’t matter where the engine is. Once you pull off those two smaller gears it should come off easily. Trying to think if I’m missing something.

Yeah…I reviewed to refresh my memory. There’s a circlip holding the basket on the center hub.

I've tried everything to get the oil lock nut off with the spanner tool I acquired from Common Motor, but to no avail. I'm pretty sure I got all of the tabs pushed back. I get the spanner engaged. I've used the penny method and it does not hold the engine. I've had my bonehead housemate (did I type that outloud) hold the left side with a 14mm wrench as well. Again, it would not budge. Again, I believe the tabs are all pushed back. Any thoughts on the problem and what I should try next.

Those things are bear cat for sure. Leverage. Try getting some length on the handle of whatever tool you’re using. Slide a longer pipe onto the handle of your ratchet. Length helps. I had to put about a 12 inch extension using a pipe I had that slipped over the end. That will give you a lot more mechanical advantage. Try that. May the wrenching gods be with you.

@@KeepOnWrenching Thank you Brian. I tried that and it gave me the leverage to destroy the penny by grinding it through the gears and dropping it out the bottom. I read where some use an air impact wrench. Note, I have a complete replacement unit.

You’ve tried penetrating oil? Let it sit over night? Get some heat on it? Impact could work. Time to get violent I suppose. Woof. I hate those things.

I don’t know how the heck you gonna lift that engine to get it back in the frame. Lol 😂
