There are people like Jon Stewart, true believers, who can go into the slaughterhouse of politics, day after day, and NOT puke their lunch. Katie Porter, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders...they are true believers, and are never discouraged. Jon is an inspiration of hope.
The absolute warmth and genuine friendship and humor of this episode was just beautiful. I love that Jon got Colbert in the end. I love that they are such good friends.
Despite the obvious comedy of the whole thing, you could hear how genuine it was when Jon said Stephen was his best friend. :)
John Stewart got me in to politics as a teenager. Brings tears to my eyes to see him back, and holy smokes did he nail his first day back.

Yeah his first commentary of this return was beyond topical and borderline prescient.
Jon talked directly to the conversations I've been having with my partner. What does it mean if we lose? What have we gained if we win? We're both so tired, and it takes a lot of constitution (no pun, forgive please) to accept the fact that trying to make the world a little bit better actually just means putting everything you've got into keeping things from getting worse.
As an aging queer political activist, there's a lot to be pessimistic about and a lot to keep us exhausted and frustrated. It's so nice to see the return of a stalwart voice from the heyday of my own political activism.

It was the part that actually got me emotional. It's like the 10 years Jon was hosting TDS came back all at once. All that was going on with the world, specially after 9/11, and with my life personally... getting into college, getting out of college without a degree, all the jobs to keep myself alive... Life is a trip. And now everything is so much crazier.

As a student in the Netherlands when Jon Stewart aired, he had a large influence on me and my views on American political topics. Not to mention the many times he made me laugh. I'm delighted to see him return. I sometimes wonder if he would have made for a good presidential candidate. Also, none of my colleagues in the Netherlands ever heared of him, but he was the main influence for our own daily-like show from Arjan Lubach.
As a French guy those two really help me to understand USA politic and mentality around it decades ago
Plus they are super fun and really nice human being

Actually, he's coming back because he and Apple had a falling out over how he wanted to cover the Israel-Palestine conflict and so his show "The Problem with Jon Stewart" on Apple TV is no more. So he's coming back because Trevor Noah left and he needs a job anyway, and presumably because someone who makes decisions at Comedy Central is more amenable to his opinions on the Israel-Palestine conflict than Apple was.

Here in Australia, I had to wait before I could get my fill of the Daily Show all those years ago. I used to love all the "....Senior Correspondants" that reported on various stuff at the time, which was mostly the bloody war and any politician that brought attention to themselves. All were great - Stephen, Ed Helms, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, Rob Riggle, Rob Corddry, Jason, Jordan and special segments from Lewis Black. What a great time to enjoy fantasticly funny TV...even though there was a big-ass war going on at the time.
The icing on the cake was Jon's delivery. He was a superb host.

100% cried, not afraid to admit. Also agree that comedians should be news anchors. They (especially Jon) seem to have a knack for lightening up a really depressing story, and making the funny ones even funnier, its "grounding" in a sense, gives a good outlet for emotions. Not sure if you ever saw his first show back after 9/11, but when the comedy stops and heavy emotions start, just seeing them stop being funny and actually say some real s*%& it makes it so much more impactful. If theyre always funny, you really notice when they intentionally stop, and have that "oh ok, something is REALLY wrong now." seriousness. Kinda like a person that never curses in 30 years, and you hear them curse once, youre like "woah, ok hold on" and the news NEEDS that
