Man rewatching this show as an adult all I can think is “where was the humor in all this?” Robert is clearly struggling, he’s having a crisis, and his family is terrible. Marie can’t be comforting and supportive, his girlfriend is more worrried about her shoes, his father is cracking jokes and more concerned about having to house his son, and Raymond cares more about what’s for dinner. Robert deserves better.
It's a sitcom, it's not only about being funny, it's a relatable slice of life. Episodes have drama,tender moments, suspense and comedy..just like real life. And imo it's closer to real life than most shows where everyone has reasonable dialogue and listens to each other. Real life conversations people cut each other off,talk over,ignore,repeat things,etc

Why is it that nowadays fictional characters aren't allowed to be flawed like real life people, just because something is portrayed doesn't mean that thing is being promoted. Even back when this was first aired we all knew Frank was a jerk.
What in this is screwed up? Families can be judgmental, unsupportive, insensitive and don’t always have the appropriate response. That’s real life. The characters showing love by trying to help each other by working though their flaws is what makes them a relatable family.

He fell apart at his viewing and 5 seconds later Mom was snapping her fingers at him like a dog saying who is she. Absolutely no compassion at all. Same with me i nearly died n v bad car wreck n Mom made fun of me as i was delirious in Emergensy room. I know she was mentally ill but my God. Mom n her Mom had no tact. N my half sis is as ignorant as Kelly Bundy. God oh God
Listen, I understand that Robert was feeling very fragile and is in a traumatic emotional state after the bull incident , it happens a lot in people with PTSD’s, BPD’s, near death experiences and etc, but still Marie and Ami should’ve treated the situation better and allowed him to finish talking about his reasons for quitting and irritation so they could’ve gotten to the root of the problem and handled it more delicately--seriously Marie does it look like this is about eating? Or needing a box of chocolates!? And “Why did I even get back together with you?” way to be supportive Ami, let’s see you try to outstrip a charging 2,200 pound Bull get hospitalized I see how hot you turn out mentally! Listen, I understand that Robert was feeling very fragile and is in a traumatic emotional state after the bull incident , it happens a lot in people with PTSD’s, BPD’s, near death experiences and etc, but still Marie and Ami should’ve treated the situation better and allowed him to finish talking about his reasons for quitting and irritation so they could’ve gotten to the root of the problem and handled it more delicately--seriously Marie does it look like this is about eating? Or needing a box of chocolates!?

And Robert shouldn’t have lashed out at them without provocation, they didn’t know what was happening or the full details about the bull accident.
