From personal experience, here is my advice: If you have money to loan a loved one, give it as a gift and don’t ask for it back. Tell them to use it however they need it and put the whole thing to bed then and there. I promise you’ll be happier.
Exactly, give and don’t ask for it in return. let it be a gift not a burden. And what they do with it is up to them, no reason to get offended as well.
I had a friend who let his brother in law borrow $500. One day he needed the money back and he asked him and he responded back with such a nasty attitude telling him he didn’t have it yet. He told me that like a couple of months passed and his brother in law had won some money at the casino. He went to his house and asked him nicely for his money back. His brother in law went back inside, grabbed the money and yelled “here’s your money!!!” And threw the money in his face. It made me laugh because my friend is so chill and problem free that he just picked up the money and went home 😂
I had similar encounter. Many years ago my friend was in a pinch and asked me to lend her money. I did,she said she'll pay me back in two days. More than a week passed,I had an emergency dentist appointment. (my wisdom tooth decided to start growing and not in the right angle, giving me a headache of a lifetime) It was a week till a payday still and I didn't know how much the visit will cost me,so I asked my friend politely if she can pay me back now. Few hours later her husband came in to the store I worked in,slammed the money on the counter and walked away without a word. I didn't said anything to them or to our friends about their behavior but since then I don't lend money to anyone.
@@karolina285they got such a nasty attitude when you ask to see if they have your money but act like shy puppies when they need to borrow money from you 😂
@@jessediaz1293 Right? If she said she'll pay me back in few weeks I wouldn't even ask if she can give me back my money now. But she's said two days and whole week has passed. It's not like I was harassing her about the money either. It was over the date she said she'll pay me back and she knew I had to go to dental surgeon to get my tooth removed. The saying is true as it turns out,if you want to lose friends, lend them money.
Damn. Stories like these makes one appreciate having friends that don't make a big fuss over lending each other money. I've lent my buddies cash and they always returned it without me having to ask and vice versa. Same with my brother. In his 20's, he was often in financial trouble and I would lend him money to bail him out and he always found a way to pay me back in time and without me having to ask. He's become much more responsible with his money since then, but he never tried to worm out of a debt he owed either. Once, when I was moving, I was having cashflow problems of my own and he bailed me out, no questions asked. I returned the money to him 2 weeks later and he never had to ask. That's how it's supposed to be. Borrowing money can be a sensitive issue, but when both sides work together nicely, it doesn't have to be such a big deal. Too bad some people just don't seem to understand that what is owed must be returned in proper time. It's a loan, not a gift.
Some people are gonna think that I’m an awful person for saying this but honestly, this is why I would never lend money to my brother or any other member of my family because if they do something stupid with it or they can’t pay me back then there’s always gonna be tension
In most cases you don't loan money to friends and family, you give it to them so this is not a issue. If you can't afford it, don't do it and if you do it, don't do it as a loan. You buy gifts for family during the holidays but don't expect the money you spent on them back, so treat it the same way. Only give what you can afford.
Well some people have good family. I needed $2000 from my brother and he lent it to me. I said I’ll pay him back when I’m able to and he said ok no problem. It will take me a few months to pay him back but both of us know I’ll pay him eventually so there’s no tension between us.
I never understood why so many people said they hated this show.not only was it funny but it was a show the whole family could sit down and watch.you didn't have to plug your children's ears or cover their eyes .if people hate these kinds of shows,I worry about the future of this world
What Ray should have done before giving Robert money, is make it clear that he doesn’t have to pay him back as long as he uses it only to pay for bills and food.
There are only two conditions in which I willingly lend money... 1. If The person has helped me before in any way possible ... 2. If the amount Isn't significant enough that would hurt me financially if turned into bad debt...
I would give money to my family no problem not lend but give. But i will never borrow. My sister helds this over my head all the time when we fight she reminds how she financially helped me i regret getting help from her so so much. Cant wait until i can pay that money back
A little more than two years ago, I gifted my girlfriend's mother $1500 because she said she needed the money to catch up on bills. She ended up using most of that money to buy a kitten, an air fryer, a new tv and a new dining room table and chairs.
Am I the only one that thinks Robert is actually worse than Raymond? A few examples: - He accuses Ray of never wanting him to be happy but yet he practically gives himself an ulcer whenever something good happens to Ray (getting married, having kids, etc.) - He goes BEYOND sibling envy and into straight up "I wish my sibling was misrable/dead" territory - He constantly belittles Ray's job until he can benefit from it - He actively seeks out anyone else who has just one negative thought about Ray and tries to befriend them - He's constantly criticizing Ray's status as a dad and a husband despite Robert having one failed marriage, no kids and took forever to get his head out of his ass and marry Amy And, this is just me, but I'm 100% sure he has been fooling around with Debrah behind Ray's back because who the hell is that chummy with their sibling-in-law?
I COULDN'T BE MORE AGREED WITH FRANK !!!! The people who got trouble with money in the first place shouldn't be handed with money, regardless it's your siblings or your parents!
This episode never made sense to me. Robert legit lived at home for 10+ years paying no rent/bills working full time as a Sargent In the NYPD with likely good overtime/benefits. Didn’t have a fancy apartment nor had much of a life outside hanging out with his family. How was he struggling financially? Let’s not forget Robert had to lend Ray money when Ray wanted to take over the bills and screwed everything up early in the show
Yes!!!!! This is something I didn't understand as a kid, but as a grown up, I am TOTALLY with you! Robert has very few expenses....his apartment is not extravagant, and living in Long Island, his rent can't be that much - he also lives modestly, doesn't spend a lot, doesn't go on a lot of vacations, etc....At this point, no wife/girlfriend, and no kids, and has a very good job that probably paid him close to six figures if not more (and as you mentioned, GREAT benefits and terrific overtime). Also, as you pointed out, he lived at home forever, with no expenses at all, so he should have a good amount of $$ saved. Plus, even if there were budget cuts, usually higher ranking members like him don't feel it as much, they probably would've laid off a bunch of rank and file beat cops. So yes, how exactly is he broke?
Robert strikes me as someone that didn’t have any extra expenses besides bills, and he clearly never bought groceries since Marie was always bringing him food to put in his refrigerator. I think he just wanted the money for Vegas and made up that story to Ray and Debra.
@@ChrisB-v7u dude if you’re injured in the line of duty you get compensated while you’re recovering and then some. All your therapy/medical care is provided by the tax payers and he probably got to pick what post/hours he wanted when he got back.
I once had to loan some money to my brother because of an undisclosed emergency...and honestly, I felt a little rotten having him owe me money. It was paid back gradually, and I was glad when it was finally paid in full. Then again, he's really conscientious about these things and I don't have to worry about him screwing me over.
A thousand dollars in Vegas? That’s not going to get him far. I’ve never been but I know it’s not cheap out there, I’m not sure a thousand bucks will even cover the cost of a hotel room.
This episode also subtly explains why the poor stay poor. If you’re not used to having money, rather than saving or investing, people just spend it and end up broke again.
If you have watched the series you know that Robert is the black sheep in the family. That is saying something since Raymond isn't all the special among men. But he is doing way better in life than Robert, the time he is given a cheque for a 1000 dollars it sets up a lot of funny dialogue and interactions throughout the episode. by the end of the episode Robert tells Raymond that he needs a break from his life which is filled with struggles and disappointments. I can understand why he then choose to go to Vagas instead of being wise. But nonetheless any time anyone gives money to a family member it should be a principle to not expect the money back or be angry in the way they spent it. It makes your life happy and I would just alter the degree at which I would bend over to help that person if they showed a tremendous lack of wisdom when given money. All of this is to say is that family is more important and our principles are sometimes put to the side in order to protect and support them.
I disagree. Robert put on a whole act about being poor and Ray/Deb help him and he decides to spend it on a luxurious vacation. It was a manipulation. Ray was nice compared to how I would have reacted. What Ray should have done was give him the money and he doesn’t have to pay him back under the condition he uses it for only bills and food.
