You may find interesting the 2010 release of Risk was the first released to go back to the classic version after revised (2008). That release actually retained the Star card system for getting more troops as opposed to the old accumulated method of getting more troops as the game went on. That release had new short game rules that involved a cease fire card in the card deck. It lacked mission risk and capital risk rules however.

Are the cards somehow used to determine the distribution of the neutral 3rd player? 2) Since there are infantry, cavalry and cannon pieces, I assume a player can swap out pieces during the game at will depending on the type of deployment s/he wants on the board, yes? 1: Correct. You need to use the cards to setup a 3 player game to assign the territories. 2: Yes, the figures are mainly meant to save space on the board. So you change them out whenever you want.

In 2 player risk it says to use all of your 40 singel units for all 2 player and the neutral player so how do you get more troops at the start of the game if you used all units
What happens if all the territory cards are already used by players should we reshuffle them again and start taking them for every new territory we win? And also is there any limit to the number of troops you get when you trade in your cards for example 70 is the limit and no player should receive more than that? Please answer if possible!!! I have social anxiety, so I don't mean to call you out or make it sound like that, but i thought you could only collect 2 extra troops if the territory on the card matches the territory on the board in a continent you've already done conquered. By the way, you forgot the unwritten rules. In most tournaments, if you attack your opponent effectively cornering him with 1 or 2 troops left then stop attacking altogether (I did that in a tournament and I never got invited back to play). If the prize money is yours, just win the damn match and take the money.

Great explanation. Very clear and to the point. Thanks for posting these. I’ve played several times and I’m still a little confused about the cannons and Calvary. I understand them as money and exchanging little bills for big bills. But I never seem to have enough little bills to exchange and do what I need. Especially towards the end of the game. Let’s say I have a cannon and a Calvary on a territory. Can I attack with that cannon? Do I have to trade it in for 10 pieces and then attack? Can I only attack with three pieces at a time? If you can only attack with three pieces at a time, I don’t understand consolidation. You would be constantly consolidating and unconsolidating every time you needed to attack. Like I said, I never have enough infantry. Just to be clear. You can’t invade with a cannon against a single infantry, win and then leave the canon of ten there. Or then break it up to continue a push forward with 9 troops. Thanks for any clarification.
Patrick your assumptions correct. Some advice. Wherever possible, try to consolidate forces behind your front lines with Cavalry and Cannons. You will only reduce these big units if the enemy breaks through into your empire. Your front line territories should be "loose" and have more infantry. As you advance, your going to need infantry "singles" for combat (yes, 3 at a time) and leave infantry behind to hold territories you've taken over. Also, in my opinion, Classic Risk can get stalled and run out of pieces if it goes on too long. Are you and your fellow players "at war" from the start or are players allowing each other time to build their armies and empires (aka Turtling)? Maybe all agreeing to trade one territory back and forth to get cards? If so, that's a problem. The longer the game goes and the more card sets are traded in the more game pieces are required. If your running out of pieces late in the game, players are not being aggressive enough. Risk should be played like a "Hot War" not a "Cold War."
When a single soldier fights a cavalry break the cavalry down into five soldiers. It's easier to track losses that way. If the five soldiers survive the battle without a loss, you can make them into a cavalry unit if you want.
In the rules it says after you attack someone and take over the territory, you can move more troops from the attacking territory into the new territory. So if I have 10 and I’m attacking someone with 1, after I win the territory I can move 9 troops in the territory and keep attacking? And this doesn’t count as the maneuvering phase?
Here's the rules from an earlier edition that are more clear: Capturing territories. As soon as you defeat the last opposing army on a territory, you capture that territory and must occupy it immediately. To do so, move in at least as many armies as the number of dice you rolled in your last battle. Also remember you must always leave at least one army behind on the territory you attacked from. During the game, every territory must always be occupied by at least one army.

During your turn, you conduct Phase I: Draft one time. You can repeat Phase II Attack: as many times as you want as long as you have armies that can be sent into battle. After you decide to stop attacking you conduct Phase III: Maneuver only once. Then your turn is over.

Yes, I think your referring to this rule: The defender will roll either 1 or 2 white dice: To roll 2 dice, he or she must have at least 2 armies on the territory under attack. Hint: The more dice the defender rolls, the greater his or her odds of winning-but the more armies he or she may lose.

1. yeah, as long you don't surpass the card limit, in the online version on steam, if you have 5 cards, you must trade. But some other version might have more into the limit. 2. Depends of what you mean by that

No. If you're the attacker you don't really retreat you just cease the attack. You can then choose to conduct an attack elsewhere and so on. If your defending you cannot retreat.
Blitz is a "fast combat" results in mobile app, cannot be done on board game ;) Blitz uses as many units as possible during attack and calculates directly the outcome till attact is possible. As per manual battles you continue yourself. Timesaver if you're not afraid of loosing troops in case of a no luck.
Let me put this simply, if you were able to conquer a territory, you received a card _(no matter how many times you conquer an X amount of territory)._ Just remember as long as you could conquer at least 1 territory, you received a card. Just remember that.
I’ve got a question that is about to cause a divorce. If an attacking player attacks with one die, and the defender defends with 2 dice, with 2 armies on each side…and the attacking player looses the roll, what happens? Someone please answer quickly.
Question : In your turn to role the dice.. Count the territories and divided by 3 and if you have continent will give troops.. On my second turn will i get troops. On my third turn will count territories divided by 3 and get troops... (I m not talking about matching 3 Risk cards and getting troops)

One question. If you attack and win a territory with say three troops, do they have to stay in the territory for the current turn, or could you use 1-2 of the troops to attack another territory next it?
I still dont under stand one part. If we get 4 troops in the beginning, can we take any troops like cavalry and artillary and how will the gameplay be like with cavalry vs infantry or something like that.
The game pieces all function the same. Cavalry & Cannons represent multiple soldier units and help save space in the territory. By using a Cavalry unit you do not have to put down five infantry. Cavalry and Cannons do not have any special abilities.
Laxrite Does it’s just as if 3 infantry are attacking the defending infantry, so you would basically have 2 reserve soldiers (1 to stay back) as an attacker when attacking with cavalry
You can attack as many times as you want per attack phase, but be aware each attack you will probably suffer some casualties. If you weaken yourself too much another player may take you out during their turn.
how do u keep count in case having cavallry and artillery on the board, these are too many troops and its easy to lose count in case of attacking or defending!
Take casualties from the Cavalry and Cannons last, then break them down into single units. And yes, there can be a lot of units. Especially if players let each other build huge armies.
I have a question, Lets say you have 10 units in Brasil and you attack 1 unit in Argentina, you attack with 3 units and you win the round, therefore you will move those 3 units to the Argentina. Now can u continue attacking other countries with remaining 7 units from Brasil ?

Question: so say if I'm defending with only a cannon and I lose the battle do I replace that cannon with 9 troops or do I just loose the cannon same goes for the horse troops if I lose them do I get 4 troops?
See Patrick Ferguson's Question and answer below. Cannons = 10 troops. So if you lose 1 troop, the cannon is traded in for 9 troops that go on the board. Same with the cavalry (horse troops).
Same here and i am with main problem of attacking and capturing a territory. They say if i attack and capture a territory i must colonize armies in the new territory the same number of dice rolled. If i only have 3 armies and i attacked with two and one of them survive then i dont have enough armies to colonize in the new territory! That is a real confusion
They represent different numbers of units. The horse represents 5 soldiers and the cannon represents 10. It makes reading the state of the board much easier.
@@bee.7603 They are simply placeholders. When 3 units engage in battle with your cannon as a defender and you take two losses, the cannon will be replaced with a horse and 3 single units. It makes sure that the board isn't filled with hundreds of small pieces (on top of being able to field more units in the end).
1 question... If I have 1 troop in my territory and my neighbouring territory also has only 1 troop... Can I choose to attack them? And if I win, can u discard my prev territory and move into the newly captured territory
No. You cannot abandon territories. Whenever you attack you must have at least two armies. One to invade the other territory and one to hold the territory you're invading from.

As long as you have one army in the territory you attacked from you can keep fighting with whatever you have in the battle. When I say at least 2 I mean one to hold the territory you attacked from and a second to fight the actual battle.

10:51 only equal to how many troops you have minus 1 (you have to leave at least one in your territory at the end of your turn). So for the example in the video, Orange has 5 troops in Western US. They can either attack twice with 2 troops, once with 3 troops, or twice with the first attack using 3 troops, then with only 1 troop.

I’m still confused on cavalry and cannons. De clutter ness sure. But if I wanna attack with a cannon right? Say I attack the neighboring army with 3 troops (mind the cannon is on the territory I’m attacking from) and I lose the dice roll resulting in losing all 3 troops. do I remember for the rest of the game that the cannon is actually worth 2? Do I write it down on paper? Someone explain please
You need to exchange the cannon for two soldiers. It's like when you buy something with a large bill. You get smaller bills as change. Cannons work the same way. Think of these game pieces like money.
No. They are just there to free clutter on the board. And they are only defeated if all troops of it are gone, like you can roll 5 times winning dice to defeat one cavalry
I still don't know the rules for exchanging infantry for cavalry and cannon. If a horse boi gets shot does he get yeeted off the board or simply disperses into three musket bois, and so on?

You should do game of thrones risk
If you retreat out of an attack do does that end your turn?
No. If you're the attacker you don't really retreat you just cease the attack. You can then choose to conduct an attack elsewhere and so on. If your defending you cannot retreat.

I’ve got a question that is about to cause a divorce. If an attacking player attacks with one die, and the defender defends with 2 dice, with 2 armies on each side…and the attacking player looses the roll, what happens? Someone please answer quickly.
The attacker just loses one troop since they only rolled one dice

Question : In your turn to role the dice.. Count the territories and divided by 3 and if you have continent will give troops.. On my second turn will i get troops. On my third turn will count territories divided by 3 and get troops... (I m not talking about matching 3 Risk cards and getting troops)
Yes. You get troops every turn for the territories and continent bonus.

@@pradeepedirisinghe7717 Yes. If you hit an enemy cavalry or cannon it breaks them down into troops. Just like buying a $1 item with $5 bill. You get $4 back in singles as change. Same concept.

One question. If you attack and win a territory with say three troops, do they have to stay in the territory for the current turn, or could you use 1-2 of the troops to attack another territory next it?
You can continue to attack. But you must leave 1 troop in each conquered territory to hold it.
I still dont under stand one part. If we get 4 troops in the beginning, can we take any troops like cavalry and artillary and how will the gameplay be like with cavalry vs infantry or something like that.
The game pieces all function the same. Cavalry & Cannons represent multiple soldier units and help save space in the territory. By using a Cavalry unit you do not have to put down five infantry. Cavalry and Cannons do not have any special abilities.

Laxrite Does it’s just as if 3 infantry are attacking the defending infantry, so you would basically have 2 reserve soldiers (1 to stay back) as an attacker when attacking with cavalry

You can attack as many times as you want per attack phase, but be aware each attack you will probably suffer some casualties. If you weaken yourself too much another player may take you out during their turn.
how do u keep count in case having cavallry and artillery on the board, these are too many troops and its easy to lose count in case of attacking or defending!
Take casualties from the Cavalry and Cannons last, then break them down into single units. And yes, there can be a lot of units. Especially if players let each other build huge armies.
When I bought it, I didn't get any storage units.
I have a question, Lets say you have 10 units in Brasil and you attack 1 unit in Argentina, you attack with 3 units and you win the round, therefore you will move those 3 units to the Argentina. Now can u continue attacking other countries with remaining 7 units from Brasil ?
I believe so. Remember, you must always assign one unit to remain in the territory. So really you've got six units left to attack with.

Question: so say if I'm defending with only a cannon and I lose the battle do I replace that cannon with 9 troops or do I just loose the cannon same goes for the horse troops if I lose them do I get 4 troops?
See Patrick Ferguson's Question and answer below. Cannons = 10 troops. So if you lose 1 troop, the cannon is traded in for 9 troops that go on the board. Same with the cavalry (horse troops).

Same here and i am with main problem of attacking and capturing a territory.
They say if i attack and capture a territory i must colonize armies in the new territory the same number of dice rolled. If i only have 3 armies and i attacked with two and one of them survive then i dont have enough armies to colonize in the new territory!

They represent different numbers of units. The horse represents 5 soldiers and the cannon represents 10. It makes reading the state of the board much easier.
Then how will the canon or horses can attack to other places, or defend the teritory? I'm really confused abt it
@@bee.7603 They are simply placeholders. When 3 units engage in battle with your cannon as a defender and you take two losses, the cannon will be replaced with a horse and 3 single units. It makes sure that the board isn't filled with hundreds of small pieces (on top of being able to field more units in the end).

1 question... If I have 1 troop in my territory and my neighbouring territory also has only 1 troop... Can I choose to attack them? And if I win, can u discard my prev territory and move into the newly captured territory
No. You cannot abandon territories. Whenever you attack you must have at least two armies. One to invade the other territory and one to hold the territory you're invading from.

That is the only problem now
As long as you have one army in the territory you attacked from you can keep fighting with whatever you have in the battle. When I say at least 2 I mean one to hold the territory you attacked from and a second to fight the actual battle.

yes, drafting happens for every player, for their specific turn, including the very first one.

If you conquer a territory, do you get extra troops or no?
No. And you have to keep the troops that you attacked with in that territory.
Can a person attack as many times as he wants in his attack
10:51 only equal to how many troops you have minus 1 (you have to leave at least one in your territory at the end of your turn). So for the example in the video, Orange has 5 troops in Western US. They can either attack twice with 2 troops, once with 3 troops, or twice with the first attack using 3 troops, then with only 1 troop.

Just one time. The amount of troops you can earn for trading a card set keeps increasing as each player cashes in cards. So keep that in mind.

@@harsh-rules except whit the set number of armies rule, which 4, 6, 8 and 10's troops part of the board is keeped, 4 for 3 infantery, 6 for caveliers, 8 for artillery and 10 one of each.
For the price it should have better quality pieces. They really are the lowest quality possible.

I’m still confused on cavalry and cannons. De clutter ness sure. But if I wanna attack with a cannon right? Say I attack the neighboring army with 3 troops (mind the cannon is on the territory I’m attacking from) and I lose the dice roll resulting in losing all 3 troops. do I remember for the rest of the game that the cannon is actually worth 2? Do I write it down on paper? Someone explain please
You need to exchange the cannon for two soldiers. It's like when you buy something with a large bill. You get smaller bills as change. Cannons work the same way. Think of these game pieces like money.

No. They are just there to free clutter on the board. And they are only defeated if all troops of it are gone, like you can roll 5 times winning dice to defeat one cavalry

If you lose 2 musket bois, then yes horse boi becomes 3 musket bois
And if I have a horse boi and five musket bois, they can be merged into a cannon?
