That Tesco manager was an absolute hero. He just killed with kindness! And those two guys in the carpet shop were the subject of another Cutting Edge episode!
Had a vague memory of this and looked it up. Doesn’t disappoint, that manager is unreal! As much of a horrible person he was, I just want to hug the guy, he just seemed so angry at the world.
I havent seen this in yeeeaaaarrrrssss. Interesting bit of trivia here, Barry has appeared on an episode of Dragons Den. And he managed to annoy most of them.
Oh god I hate these people. Someone tried to get me sacked from the pharmacy I worked in once for giving him the wrong flavour Gaviscon. Not that he'd told me what he wanted of course, I was supposed to guess.
if anyone at Channel 4 reads these, PLEASE PLEASE MAKE DOCS LIKE THIS AGAIN, same style, similar subject matter - lot better than "my mate stabbed my girlfriend in bradford"x3 over
The phrase 'GET A FUCKING LIFE' springs to mind. These people working at the stores are on minimum wage. Why should they give a fuck about your Pear's being too hard?
That scene at McDonald’s with that guy in the gray shirt made me cringe. These are the customers I am sure retail and customer service workers discuss in the staff room. The Tesco manager was very patient in dealing with the guy in the checked jacket.
The Office manager that is pissed off about "Three things." "Credibility and the money." Erm..I'm no businessman, but thats two things surely...No wonder it all goes south for that short arse.
Unless this was trailblazing "guided reality" TV a la TOWIE et al, and these characters aren't actually like this...I wonder if any of the three have been murdered since this was made? I can't help suspecting Mr Tesco's disabled wife would make a fucking run for it if she was able-bodied. The Manc motormouth is just asking to be added to the foundations of a building, whilst Damaged of Brighton has hopefully long since bitten off more than he can chew.
First time I’ve seen this since it was aired in 1997…I’m convinced that Ricky Gervais got part of his inspiration for David Brent from watching this and seeing Barry… A lot of the scenes were clearly acted out…and think this doc received complaints at the time for being faked…
David's commentary at 48:29 was absolutely spot on, I too am old enough to recall how customer service has degraded to the point of non existence overtime to today. It really is frightening how much of our rights we have surrendered to corporations today. When I was young, a company would practically beg me to come back as a customer when a contract was due for renewal, now, they write in a clause that you have to give these people at least 2 months notice before the renewal date, and if you miss it, tough, it rolls over, you're charged whether you can afford it or not and you're immediately locked back in and the only notification you get is the invoice once the roll over has already happened. You call a customer service line and you get some cocky teenager waving the rule back at you, irrespective of how crap the service was or is!!
You realise that monologue he went on was directly following (in the edit, at least) him being subjected to the most patient and willing customer service ever seen though, right?
One of the funniest documentaries I've ever watched🤣
The old whimsical music played as they go shopping is the cherry on the cake
Wow... the way Barry goes off in those last few minutes. What a pillock! LOL
I'd like to see him get away with that kind of behavior in 2021.
The scenes with the ex-wife and daughter of the Manc are sublime.
Barry is like a mashup of David Brent, Mark Corrigan and Peter Gabriel..
Seeing a lot of Malcolm Tucker in him too.
I’m convinced David Brent was inspired by baz
This video is criminally underwatched, but for anyone who sees this, Barry would later be utterly destroyed on Dragon's Den.
Yes!!! Took me ages to realise where I'd seen him before!! Barry with the dodgy water cooler and the multi-level marketing!!! Its him!
That Tesco manager was an absolute hero. He just killed with kindness!

Which one?
I never knew young David Cameron worked in Tesco.

Look up his episode of Dragons' Den.
Oh I will now thanks :-)

@@julesfalcone I saw ur comment on the Dragon's Den vid and came here too lmao🤣🤣
@@jakubfiszer8506 Barry is probably my favorite ever on Dragon's Den. I love all "Jenny's out" jokes. And Duncan's great for a contrarian perspective.
You sir are a bloody hero this would have made me crazy trying to remember the sweaty shortarse
Some people just like creating drama and complain for the sake of it.

it takes all kinds to make a world my friend and my phylosophy is its better to please the majority and not the minority !!!!!
Alan expects an equal amount of blueberries in each muffin
Yours is falling apart!
Pears are wrong. Remember this from years back it’s a classic.
When was this? £20-30 to fill a car with petrol and walking around Tesco with a knife. Those were the days 😁
I would guess between 1997 and 1999
A fine year for I a young man!
Man, I'll probably be hated here, but this is soo funny to me, it's timeless too!! 😂 😂
How sad are people in this world.
Thanks for the upload. I have never forgotten the trailers for this but missed the actual show at the time. Now to see what I've been missing...
Can you imagine working with that manager in that office. No job is worth that sort of abuse. What a prick.
The manager at Tesco is just brilliant!! Haha!!
Poshest Tesco manager ever!
He would make a very good MP
