Hey TFL do you guys think you'll be able to review the 2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe? I'd love to see that! Keep up the good work, I always come to yalls videos first!
It is so nice to be able to buy a RWD 6 speed manual sports car with some luxury touches. Try that with Audi (front wheel drive VW with added AWD) or Mercedes (no manual transmission, period). Face it, BMW is the driver's car. Add no cost maintenance for four years or 50k miles, can't beat it. Trust me I've spent about 30 hours the last two weeks trying...
Considering that the 4 series is an all new car and model range for bmw and the current s5 is getting a bit long in the tooth, it's interesting to note that the presenters would still prefer the older s5 to the new 4 series coupe. I think it's a testament to just how timeless some audi models, like the s5, are. Moreover, audi is likely to come out with a new s5, either at some point this year or next, that will likely trammel on this 4 series in ever facet.
In my opinion, the 4 series is a little too round looking. The taillights look kind of awkward because they're so bubbly and the front end has an outward slant to it. I just prefer the look of the 3 series. I have the f30 335i msport xdrive in estoril blue and the sharper lines of it are better than the 4 series in my opinion. Plus, i don't know why they couldn't just stick to "3 series coupe"
richie s Well now BMW has 1 to 7 series, some have gran coupe and M versions, others have x versions too, so there's plenty to choose from! I really like the the 4 design but the 3 price :/ lol
For ppl asking whats the point of 4 series , its like asking whats the point of 3 series coupe , bmw decided to make even numbers (2-4-6-i8) coupes and odd numbers (1-3-5-7) sedans. So its a 3 series coupe.
imo these cars are made for cruising. ppl who want a classier, sleeker looking coupe as appose to the more sportier looking 3series coupes. its a great daily driver if u get xdrive as well. for me its the perfect mix btwn sport, luxury, classy feel. the 3 series sedan is just too boring, especially if u dont need the back seats. the 340 is an exception.
+MUH FACKS for me it lacks comfort and ride quality after experiencing their new soft steering and downsized engine i think bmw lost their touch in sportiness.
Don't the turbo's run best at high altitudes? Better than what you would get a sea level right? Anyways, The Fast Lane Car is gaining popularity quickly I think it has to do with how they run their show. Rather more entertaining. With my car I can get down to 4.7 sec 0-60.
Never really lol. That tech has been around since early 2000s easily. Mercedes had it on clk model. Its useful altho i agree stupid design and im sure e92 owners hate thatvdam thing. With the 4 ser they added a lil hook but on the e92 the design was slightly flawed and the belt falls of like 50% of the time.
Technologically this car makes my first generation M6 seem positively ancient. But seat of the pants the M6 was more visceral. Talk about street presence, when someone sees the M6 in the rear view they move out of the way.
Damn for 65K, I'd be in a CTS-V. 2 more doors & gobs more power. This 4 series has no point of existing. If people need more room out of a 3 series, that's what the 4 door version or 5 series is for.
CTS has "more power" but less performance. This 4 series is simply a 3 series coupe, the name has no meaning but it certainly deserves to exist. CTS also doesn't come standard with the same options as a $65k 435 with AWD.
An E550 comes in at the same price as the 435, giving yet another reason to wonder, "who is buying these cars?" The E550 has more power, is unarguably better when it comes to luxury, and in a lot of peoples view a better car to look at.
socialismcanwork The E550 has more power in terms of raw HP and torque figures, but its gearbox is not nearly as nice as the 435i's 8-Speed. STEPTRONIC has really stepped up its game and you get really nice smooth shifts from both the N20 and N55 engines. The 0-100km speed from the E550 is around 5.2, which is considerably less than the 435i. Of course, you cannot compare the two since they are of two different classes. You also cannot conclusively say that the E550 is a better car to look at; that is a consumer preference. While and Daimler will give you luxury, you can't beat the price for raw performance. Though I will admit that there is no point to a 2 door 3 series (the 4 series) when you can have the same thing for less in a 335i.
Mingran Yu we're coming full circle back to my original point that there is no legit purpose for this car to exist, let alone at that price. If I wanted a fast 2 door BMW for 65K, I'd buy a fully loaded 335i which would also give me the option and practicality of 2 extra doors. If I needed more room than the 4 door 335i and still wanted to be in a BMW, I could get the 550i or 535i. It's the same scenario BMW has with the M235i. Why??
You forget one important thing. American cars are only cheap in America. CTS-V cost like a M5/RS6/E63 in Europe. This car cost like half of this. So for your markets I agree with you. But for the rest of the world, I don't. Just like a Corvette C7, a very affordable sports car in the U.S., but in Europe it costs like a Porsche 911, but the build quality, finish and interior is certainly not on par with the 911. Power on the other hand ...: D
You'd have to be an idiot buying an A4, A5, S4, S5 now. It's a 7 year old platform, fails miserably on the small overlap crash test, and is being replace next year.
3 series is sedan. 4 series is suppose to fill the 2 door section. What I DON'T understand why BMW made was the 4 series Gran Coupe. It's the 4 door version... of the 4 series.... except wait. That's what the 3 series is suppose to be. I don't get BMW anymore.
It looks a little different from the 3 series today I seen them both at a BMW dealership and I asked the salesman why would I buy 435i when I can have a 335i coupe ? It comes with the Twin Power engine like the 335i but the 435i it's about 2 inches bigger I still don't understand why would I buy the 435i over 335i coupe,
***** The gear leaver is counter intuitive?! Man... this guy has no idea what he is talking about!!! BMW is one of the few companies who do it the CORRECT way. Please go back and review your American Mustangs or something...
Exactly that, pull to + and push to - is the right way round. It's to do with how the driver and forces play with each other. I guess other manufacturers like to cater to the 80% of laymen who think that push to + means that they push the car to go faster or some nonsense like that.

+Mouti b I want to know this too. I've seen this in a few videos, mostly with M3 cars. What's up with the animated mode and is it even legal -- looks like a police car coming up from behind.
+Mouti b It's not a "feature" of the car. Its because the shutter speed on the camera they're using can't record the constant light output of the light so it looks like its flickering, much the same as when a helicopter rotor is recorded it looks like its moving slowly etc.
+English Man Can you explain 5:55 then? It's not flickering there... I would assume they are using the same camera? It's almost the same shot. Although upon closer look,it seems choppier at 5:20 -- and they are recording from another vehicle, so maybe it's cellphone footage at lower FPS.
The age of light cars is gone! So many automotive journalist complain about weight in a car but they love all the luxury options which is the is the reason for weight. Not to mention superior NVH, 20 airbags, a wiring harness that would make an electrician go crazy, a slew of other electronic aids and a better built all around vehicle then say 10-15 years ago. If they built a 2500 coupe then they would complain about the bare bones cabin and lack of features
Well, the A5 couldn't be an A4 coupe (which it basically is) so they got the name in the first place unlike the 4 series which is basically a 3 series coupe that changed its name later on... Nevertheless, I agree with you guys (great review btw) that the S5 is the way to go... I love that car
I noticed that someone else commented on this, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts. The Fast Lane - has certainly lost some of my respect, and to be honest, you guys should ashamed of the incorrect information shared regarding the naming conventions of BMW's and which platforms are aligned. If you guys had any credibility at all, you would either pull the video, or at the very least own up to your mistakes. The 3 and 4 series share the same platform - NOT 4 and 5! All of the original platforms remain, the only difference is the number of doors, with the exception of the grand coupe, which is really a 4 door car with two doors. The 5 series is a 4 door as it always has been, and the 6 series is the two door version of the 5 series. The 3 series is now the 4 door model and any 3 series with two doors is now a 4 series. Get it? Good. Fix your video.
Agree. Test drove this and the S5. Bought an S4 in the end. The S has better interior and is sportier on the street. The rear differential is awesome when cornering!
5.8 sec with for Inline-6 -- it's awesome even at 5000 ft above sea level. At launch control, Nathan got it close to 7000 RPM, and 5.5 seconds. Also, agree with the pricing, BMW really dings you on the options, so be careful if you're searching for a Beamer. Hopefully, you'll get to test the M4 coming next model year.
BMW will probably revoke their testing rights because they don't understand the new naming convention. The 4 series is not the same as the 5 series. The 4 series is a 3 series with two doors. Jackasses. If they expect to be taken seriously, they should do the most basic of research. More to your topic, I would love to see some more videos of the M4.
The reason BMW built the 4 series is to replace the 3 series coupes since they are no longer being built. the 3 series is now meant to be a family saloon car and the 4 series is meant to be the sports coupe now. that's why the Germans decided to build this car. personally i would prefer the rwd version with an available option for the v8 and also the only reason that particular interior looks somewhat cheap is because that particular one actually is. it's not optioned out it has the cheap blue trim you have many other interior options to make it feel more expensive and classy however the interior of the audi s5 does go above and beyond in luxury it is an incredible interior however the s5 interior is not as customizable as the 4 series and i find that to be somewhat frustrating for the amount of money that you're paying for it.
Dude I hit 4.4 in 0-60 and 13 flat quarter mile if it was 6 speed it would be 4.7 in 0-60 in this exact year make and model lmao the Audi S5 has nothing on the 2014 435i xdrive coupe and mine wasnt a m sport the M sport aka ZHP adds 20 HP and 32 Torque if you're gonna give out info give out real info about the car the non xdrive version runs 5.1,5.2 0-60 the 435i xdrive runs 4.4 lmfao and the M Sport does 4.2 0-60 the 32 extra torque helps a lot jeez if you're gonna talk about this car do it correctly its a 100% own not a b.s lease i destroy AUDI S5'S 2016 Mercedes E400 4matic coupe too hahaha oh and the kids that drive those loud for nothing STI's 😂😂😂😂😂😂either go with a 2012 335i xdrive coule or this 2014 435i xdrive coupe same numbers but avoid standard versions unless you wanna lose a race BMW's perfected automatic transmissions my last e92 was 6 speed i feel a huge difference auto is the way to go now
I don't understand why so many people complains about BMW performance/price. Why do you think people would buy a Ferrari over a Corvette? Because they can and more importantly, a Ferrari is much more appealing to them then a Corvette (same principle apply to your wife or girlfriend, look come first, everything else is a bonus). Anyway, you are not very bright if you willing to pay MSRP for a mass production car. Just got my 435 X-Drive for $56,410 (MSRP $64,410) in Portland, Oregon. Look for dealers with a lot of 4 Series in stock and they willing to do anything to sell it to you. Yes, I know there are many cars that are cheaper and faster, but normal people don't buy cars so that they can do 0-60 mph on the street. Test drive a 435 and other coupes and you will get all the answers you'll need. So watch the video for what is it and stop complaining.
For all the idiots, the 4 series is the new 3 series coupe and the new 3 comes only as a saloon. Also idk about the US but you can get the 420d too which costs a lot less, is more economical and still has power.

Hands down the evened number cars are cooler and look better. I would take a 2,4,6 any day.
wow sounds like 2 old women going on and on..... very boring review
these idiots act like they never driven a bmw before.
Yeah but it makes it great😂
You make good videos The Fast Lane Car but..... I'v been waiting months for a video on the Lincoln and nothing. When is a expected video? You said before that there should be one up after the car shows and the 2014 line up, Just saying but i still love you guys lol
Hey TFL do you guys think you'll be able to review the 2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe? I'd love to see that! Keep up the good work, I always come to yalls videos first!
they did already
+DkNy2kX I just saw the 428i review but still no 435i gran coupe. Guess it's basically the same other than the engine. Thanks though.
+DiveDeep yah basically the same. Lol. just mix the coupe and gran coupe to get your verdict.
Mercedes has had the seatbelt helper since '95
Considering that the 4 series is an all new car and model range for bmw and the current s5 is getting a bit long in the tooth, it's interesting to note that the presenters would still prefer the older s5 to the new 4 series coupe. I think it's a testament to just how timeless some audi models, like the s5, are. Moreover, audi is likely to come out with a new s5, either at some point this year or next, that will likely trammel on this 4 series in ever facet.
Good review! Owned BMWs for 20 years - wouldn't drive anything else.
I did some pulls with my sonata 2.0t stock against this and it kept up to 3rd gear...
I liked the new 0-60 camera angle
Looks like the air conditioning is on during the 0-60 test, that could take some HP away.
Have you seen a 435i for real? I saw one and it doesn't look as round as you make it seem, it looks like a wide M3, that's lower and more aggressive.
***** There was a 428i with the msport in gray at my local dealer and I just wasn't feeling it.. But that's my opinion
can't wait for the m4 car review, if this looks this good and drives this good, the m4 will be amazing
richie s Well now BMW has 1 to 7 series, some have gran coupe and M versions, others have x versions too, so there's plenty to choose from! I really like the the 4 design but the 3 price :/ lol
If this is direct competition for the S5 then what does the M4 compete with? An R8? What are you smoking?
Exhaust doesn't have the M-package II which comes with the M-Power-Kit
So you still missing in sound and little bit on power
You guys complain all too much about this car lol
For ppl asking whats the point of 4 series , its like asking whats the point of 3 series coupe , bmw decided to make even numbers (2-4-6-i8) coupes and odd numbers (1-3-5-7) sedans. So its a 3 series coupe.
***** Yeah, OK, then why the 6 and 4 series Grand Coupes?
There u just answered urself, they r grand "coupes " so the same lower sporty body with an additional two doors
imo these cars are made for cruising. ppl who want a classier, sleeker looking coupe as appose to the more sportier looking 3series coupes. its a great daily driver if u get xdrive as well. for me its the perfect mix btwn sport, luxury, classy feel. the 3 series sedan is just too boring, especially if u dont need the back seats. the 340 is an exception.
+MUH FACKS for me it lacks comfort and ride quality after experiencing their new soft steering and downsized engine i think bmw lost their touch in sportiness.
Their humour is the reason why they only have 200K subs
Don't the turbo's run best at high altitudes? Better than what you would get a sea level right?
Anyways, The Fast Lane Car is gaining popularity quickly I think it has to do with how they run their show. Rather more entertaining. With my car I can get down to 4.7 sec 0-60.
Thinking of getting this one
i wonder how long before the retratable seat belt thingy breaks lol
It looked flimsy, but it is nice to have
Never really lol.
Then BMW shakes it up more with a 4 Gran Coupe! They have so many models!
And now what's up with 435i vs new 340i ?
they've honestly had the arm handing you the seatbelt in their cars for a few years now..
I wonder if this has problems with the High Pressure Fuel Pump like the 335 does.
Technologically this car makes my first generation M6 seem positively ancient. But seat of the pants the M6 was more visceral. Talk about street presence, when someone sees the M6 in the rear view they move out of the way.
is xdrive really that bad as they make it seem on forums compared to rwd?
That 64k price tag is way too high, I would choose the RC in any case over this. I love the 4 series, but not for that price.
An E550 comes in at the same price as the 435, giving yet another reason to wonder, "who is buying these cars?" The E550 has more power, is unarguably better when it comes to luxury, and in a lot of peoples view a better car to look at.
socialismcanwork
The E550 has more power in terms of raw HP and torque figures, but its gearbox is not nearly as nice as the 435i's 8-Speed.
Power on the other hand ...: D
you gave it a "lease it" rating because of the pricey options? Guess that might as well be the standard TFL rating for most if not all BMWs :/
You'd have to be an idiot buying an A4, A5, S4, S5 now. It's a 7 year old platform, fails miserably on the small overlap crash test, and is being replace next year.
darkpill how do you know its being replaced?
www.caranddriver.com/photo-gallery/2016-audi-a4-sedan-spy-photos-news
The POINT is that the even series will be coupes (like the 2-series).
8 is back guys
1st video ive seen from you guys. subbed
why does the headlight keep brinking? is it the adapative LED?
no, it has to do with the camera and its frame rate, in person it wont appear to be blinking
I need some advice on weather or not I should get an E92 M3 or one of these 435i coupes... Im so torn between the two.
they've got the 335is but I'm not sure that there is going to be a 435is. The '-is' adds about 30bhp
I don't understand why BMW made that car, what's wrong with the 3 ? Great video guys !
I don't get that ta all.
Ishikawa Masaki It's the hatchback version. Still a 4, wider and longer, etc.. So it does look different than a 3 sedan.
It looks a little different from the 3 series today I seen them both at a BMW dealership and I asked the salesman why would I buy 435i when I can have a 335i coupe ? It comes with the Twin Power engine like the 335i but the 435i it's about 2 inches bigger I still don't understand why would I buy the 435i over 335i coupe,
If you want a 335i coupe you'll have to buy a 2013. 2014 and up, it's only the 4 series. The BMW line is too crowded now.
I guess other manufacturers like to cater to the 80% of laymen who think that push to + means that they push the car to go faster or some nonsense like that.
z00h Finally a real driver who knows what he is talking about. ;)
TheIMightyIndman Guess what. I unsubscribed. This has no journalistic value, and is purely typical yankee objectivity. You still play Cod so you must be a kid and probably don't understand these things yet and believe everything you see.
Well you can think whatever you want. You are into music, so I don't expect you to understand. I work in this (car) industry and don't just criticize for fun.
"You still play Cod so you must be a kid and probably don't understand these things yet and believe everything you see." THAT's what I meant by "idiotic". Cheers ;]
7:42 I like this camera angle.
My dad has this car it's amazing
5:20 how you can do that with the light
+Mouti b
I want to know this too.
+English Man
Can you explain 5:55 then? It's not flickering there... I would assume they are using the same camera? It's almost the same shot. Although upon closer look,it seems choppier at 5:20 -- and they are recording from another vehicle, so maybe it's cellphone footage at lower FPS.
The age of light cars is gone! So many automotive journalist complain about weight in a car but they love all the luxury options which is the is the reason for weight. Not to mention superior NVH, 20 airbags, a wiring harness that would make an electrician go crazy, a slew of other electronic aids and a better built all around vehicle then say 10-15 years ago. If they built a 2500 coupe then they would complain about the bare bones cabin and lack of features
who does the editing on these videos?
Mercedes 560 SEC had that seat belt gizmo since the last 80's.
Well, the A5 couldn't be an A4 coupe (which it basically is) so they got the name in the first place unlike the 4 series which is basically a 3 series coupe that changed its name later on... Nevertheless, I agree with you guys (great review btw) that the S5 is the way to go... I love that car
Nobody commented on the M bumper, is that factory?
You get better acceleration if you use sport plus and double clutch manual
Still wish the 550M was coming to the states.
Why is he standing like an angry highschool coach
they had those dumb seat belt extention things since 08
It's the same price as the M4...?
Why not test the 435x diesel ?
Agree. Test drove this and the S5. Bought an S4 in the end. The S has better interior and is sportier on the street. The rear differential is awesome when cornering!
Is it worth me moving from BMW 335xi sedan to BMW 428xi?
Keep your 335 because you're downgrading if you go to a 428. Unless you really want a coupe.
+Savan Panchal You'll need to get the 435ix, otherwise you'll kick yourself in the pants for the downgrade in performance
I think BMW is making it so that all of the even numbers: 2,4,6, are coupes, but the odd numbers: 3,5,7, are sedans.
@TFL wjat is the small blue and metal camera on the roof ? the image seems better than the GoPro. And where did you found that GoPro micrphone? thks
Thanks a lot for the review
Misinformed review...and probably the last that they will do for BMW. The 4 series is NOT the same platform as the 5 series.
Dude I hit 4.4 in 0-60 and 13 flat quarter mile if it was 6 speed it would be 4.7 in 0-60 in this exact year make and model lmao the Audi S5 has nothing on the 2014 435i xdrive coupe and mine wasnt a m sport the M sport aka ZHP adds 20 HP and 32 Torque if you're gonna give out info give out real info about the car the non xdrive version runs 5.1,5.2 0-60 the 435i xdrive runs 4.4 lmfao and the M Sport does 4.2 0-60 the 32 extra torque helps a lot jeez if you're gonna talk about this car do it correctly its a 100% own not a b.s lease i destroy AUDI S5'S 2016 Mercedes E400 4matic coupe too hahaha oh and the kids that drive those loud for nothing STI's 😂😂😂😂😂😂either go with a 2012 335i xdrive coule or this 2014 435i xdrive coupe same numbers but avoid standard versions unless you wanna lose a race BMW's perfected automatic transmissions my last e92 was 6 speed i feel a huge difference auto is the way to go now
Try with manual shifting at around 6200 rpm. Should be a little faster.
Looks awesome!
I can tell you did the Review in Hemet California!
I have a 3.5i z4 with the dual clutch auto. This engine kicks ass.I dont know how bmw measure their hp but but i can guarantee you the 300hp/300tq is a lie. This things hauls ass
agree, if u check bimmer forums, most people agree the 35i makes 325hp 335tq and the 28i makes 260hp and 270tq
is this a n55 engine does anyone know?
I prefer almost the conversation at the end of the review
@Gerhard Myburg At least they don't all look the same as Audis do. Greetings from germany
I love how Americans whinge about the price, try paying over 120k for these and see how you like it.
Don't blame BMW or Americans if you are paying 120k for this car. Blame your government and your country's inability to control inflation and cost of living. I hope you make $1M a year :)
notformebeaky
do not forget that companies are poisoning the us thanks to fracking
Basic 4 series here in Uruguay costs U$D100k. and M4 U$D200k. Petrol is 2 dollars and a half the litre and yet Americans complain about their prices
You couldn't pay me to live in America, just wait for the next war America vs Russia - That might put them in their place.
Bergvid Lol...Even with a weak u.s. president, no one in the Russian military wants to fuck with the u.s. military. We will bomb Russia back into the stone age. It won't be like Napoleon or Hitler. You won't be able to move your factories to the Urals and be safe.
A car show/person who prefer an Audi over a BMW or Merc ISN'T A REAL CAR SHOW/PERSON.
my dads 08 has that seat belt assist. One side is now broken, stupid accessory.
BeachJedi101 ur dumbass prob broke it
My brother has one but it’s tuned
Instead of 0-60 5 secs it does 0-60 4 secs and exhaust tune
Roman quit hating
