The other day I went into some restaurants as your typical gringo, and ordered my food in Spanish. I definitely surprised the workers there with my fluent Spanish! I learned Spanish in high school and it"s been 7 incredible years of mastering the language. Often times people will confuse me to be Mexican due to my accent and use of certain words. It's actually one of the biggest compliments I can get and it's very humbling when a native speaker genuinely thinks that I'm Mexican. Thank you for watching, you're awesome :) If you liked the video please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment telling me your favorite part! New videos every Tuesday.

If you're new to the channel my name's Nate and I learned Spanish in high school. Learning Spanish has changed my life for the better. Now it's my goal to create videos that make you smile and inspire you to learn Spanish or another language! Love language. Love people.
Note: I've been receiving a lot of negative comments with regards to my skin color, people often commenting, "Lots of fair skinned people speak Spanish". I never mention the color of my skin in my videos, and if it is mentioned, it's by other people in the video, not myself. There are Spanish speakers with all kinds of skin tones. Please understand that I know this. This channel is meant to be a place of love for Latino culture and a place where people can go to be inspired to learn another language. My only goal is to promote positivity, and I hope I've been able to do that for you. Cheers.

I wouldn't say high schools teach it "wrong" per se... the only thing a general education center will be able to do is teach language theory - which is good and informative but is not the same as teaching to speak and converse fluently.
It's like wanting to learn to play the piano, but your school teaches music theory primarily... music theory is important to know for playing music in general, but not how to specifically manipulate your fingers on a piano keyboard and make music.

I have to admit Nate does have the best Mexican accent that i have heard from a gringo. The accent to me is the most important and that is the fist thing i try to get correct is the accent there is nothing worst to me than hear a American sounding like and American trying to speak Spanish.

I get so mad because a lot of my family speaks Spanish, but I was never taught. I used to ask them to only speak to me in Spanish so that I would be forced to learn, but they never would. I've been studying more and more, but I'm so bad at it. I hope one day it will click with me. I love the sound of the language.

Man, you are so nice 🙂, I just subscribed to your channel, I like when someone like you learns my language and is so passionate about it.

Once I was with a co-worker, who is a middle-aged black woman, when these two Mexicans asked us for directions. You could tell their English was minimal. But surprise, surprise, my black co-worker started giving them directions in fluent Spanish. Oh, man. You all should have seen their faces! Their eyes practically popped out of their heads. Like they didn't even know it was possible for an African-American to speak Spanish. Don't assume anything about strangers, cuz they often surprise you.

I love how you don’t assume the workers speak Spanish and ask them if they know Spanish. A lot of people assume just by looking at our skin tone and features that we speak Spanish.

Tu español es excelente, sólo noté un error que fué cuando dijiste tu edad, ella preguntó y vos dijiste "veintiuno años", en este caso no suena bien decir veintiuno, se dice veintiún años, aunque no sé muy bien porqué
