    As the owner of a 99 Malibu the best advice is to replace the motor and regulator both because this is a common problem with the windows but the motor/regulator is 125-150 new and labor is about 100, so I'd go to the junk yard and if you're lucky someone replaced them and if the part looks new get it, they will cost you about 35-40 dollars and if you watch this video you can do it yourself

    Today all in all in a sudden my driver side window would not come down. All the others worked fine, so I knew it was not the motor. I hit the switch in short brief taps like you showed in your video and it worked again. Thank you so much!!!!

    • @ApartmentKing66
      @ApartmentKing66 Рік тому

      Actually, Gina, each window has its own regulator/motor, meaning that just because the others worked fine doesn't mean they all will. If a cable snaps on one or a pulley breaks, no amount of playing with switches will do any good. The regulator will need to be replaced. The good news is that as I write this, they're available on eBay for only about $40.

    I am hooked on the Motorcraft electrical grease now. I don't understand why you can't seem to buy it from anywhere else, and so many people use dielectric grease in so many applications incorrectly. Dielectric grease is for high volt/amp applications like spark plug wires, it's not meant for lower voltage applications like this. Good job!

    I'm having problem with the window not going up or down but when I press the button it makes a humming sound. Is that humming sign to replace the switch or the motor?

    • @christinam1460

      Same. My window use to go up and down. Then it wouldn't for like a month. Then it did. Now it doesn't AT ALL!!! But I do hear that humming noise. That's why I came to this video.

  • @those1kidds

    just did this on my chevy, be careful with those metal clips, they fall out easily and can go behind the door cover like mine did ): Also my windows were going up and down really slowly, made me think it was the window motors. But once I changed out the switch they worked perfectly.... that was so weird to me that a bad switch could make the windows go up and down slowly. Whatever, now I just need to fish out the metal clip and hopefully, all will be well.

      Lubricating the side tracks will help too. Just spray some silicone into the side tracks, and that oughta do it.

    You said not to buy Denso switches. What about their headlight assemblies. My 2005 Corolla needs them. Tired of buffing the yellow off. No idea what brand to get. Toyota ones high dollar and since the factory ones started clouding before it was three yeas old I don't trust them

    • @gokblok

      Don't buy DORMAN switches. Denso is likely who made the OEM Toyota parts.

      Always check wires going from main switch to other side through door. The boot sometimes doesn't protect the metal and eventually the wires get rubbed through or short.

    Can't you just clean the switch that isn't making contact? $100 is too much for such a small thing to repair. Or are the switches likey worn out!
