I love Dulles! It's a very accessible airport, and still large. Sometimes I can see large planes fly over my house because I live in rather close proximity to this airport.
Cool I’ve been on it before love it’s like the Washington DC metro 🚇 why don’t anyone try it the next time anyone is is in Virginia try it thanks again buddy peace ✌️.
I didn’t even know that Dulles had this, it’s been many years since I’ve been out to this airport and I live in northern Virginia. Thanks for sharing your view :-))
@@ckinard2 Not quite yet. They just closed the entirety of the Silver Line until Labor Day to do some testing before they open phase 2 (which will go to the airport). Hopefully it'll be done by summer next year
This is the MWAA airport I have never flown out of; in fact, I have not been here in thirty-three years (1977). (Odd fact - I have flown out of both Reagan National AND Marshall BWI since my last trip to Washington Dulles.)
wow! O_O sounds awesome compared to our Oakland Airport train here in the bay area! Probably cause you can actually hear the traction motor while our system is rope-driven
Boy, am I late to the party! Back when I lived in the DC Area Dulles had what were known as People Movers - largely motorized trailers on wheels shuttling people back and forth.
Funny how at the end, you were ready for the Aerotrain to come your way, then it goes back the way it came so you had to zoom in... Lol! Btw, what's an Aerotrain?
Aerotrain is a brand name. This transport rides on tires beneath it, gets power from a rail near the bottom of the tunnel*, and is guided by horizontal-mounted tires on its sides. * I don't recall the exact location of the rail, but it is off to one side. My knowledge is only from observation, while riding the Aerotrain during employment and as a airline passenger.
it runs on wheels so it turns and that piece of "wire" in between the tracks that's the signalling cable i believe for the onboard ATC (automatic train controls)
Aerotrain began operations around 2011, so its tunnels are relatively new. I noticed in this video that the tunnels have acquired some age and grime compared to 2011. The train cars are clean and well-maintained.
The Aerotrain is unlikely to ever see the outdoors. It passes beneath the airplane parking gates and ramps, as well as the terminals; it does not interact with surface movement. The Silver Line portion of the DC Metro will include a stop at Dulles Inernational Airport, currently forecast to open early 2022. The track is all elevated in the area. As abchasi27 wrote, Dulles has surface level transport, called mobile lounges, between some terminals. They can run freely, but they follow several specific paths. Prior to the Aerotrain, they serves each terminal; now they serve only a couple. However, they are a backup transportation system for all the terminals. The rider's view is well above typical bus level (6 feet or more). They are a good way to see a portion of the aircraft operations area.
Now I wonder... I see red lights and green lights, very likely some kind of signaling, but what is the point in that when there is no human driver... These trains are controlled by a computer after all, right?
@@azan-183 The areotrain did not cause us to miss our flight; we decided to follow some people that claimed to be going to the same plane but they instead led us to the exit of the airport and we had to go though security and it was too late. We were rebooked to another flight that was scheduled to depart at 12:00 Pm but it was delayed for 12 hours due to repairs.
I understand that a rubber-based train infrastructure is good for tyre vendors and manufacturers, but why would you spend $1.4bn and not base the transit system on rail tracks?
Rubber-based trains are quite common around the world. They are well suited for shorter distances such as this system with quick and powerful acceleration and decelerations.
I love Dulles! It's a very accessible airport, and still large. Sometimes I can see large planes fly over my house because I live in rather close proximity to this airport.

You live in rather close what? … I couldn't hear you, there was a plane flying over.
This is the best-lit train tunnel I've ever seen.

Me: I wonder how the train driver managed to line up the doors so perfectly.
Later.
Me: Oh, that’s because there is no train driver.
Super excited to ride these next week!
They have something similar to this in Kuala Lumpur, the train takes passengers from the international airport to the national airport

It is KLIA aerotrain.
It runs between main terminal and satelite terminal.
My autistic son used to love filming trains. He’s grown out of it now.
I must say have used this train. Clean, very clean and most useful when traveling at Dulles airport.
Nice to see even US has modern and clean aerotrain!
Funny how at the end, you were ready for the Aerotrain to come your way, then it goes back the way it came so you had to zoom in... Lol! Btw, what's an Aerotrain?

Did you really think hollywierd is accurate in filming outside of LA?
Those trains are identical as the Skytrain in Atlanta.
Where is the track and junction? How can it work? Amazing
Singapore Changi Airport too
it runs on wheels so it turns and that piece of "wire" in between the tracks that's the signalling cable i believe for the onboard ATC (automatic train controls)
ROC B and also Singapore's Changi Int'l Airport + two of its LRT lines use the same type of train.
Sounds good accelerating through the tunnels. Runs on rubber tyres or tires then does it?

They run on tires?
What is this witchcraft
Either that or I misread the tracks

Interesting ...
They must have retired the old big huge mobile lounges.
Nope they still have those
now those are well lit and clean tunnels .. compared to NY or London subways which are dark and grimy
It's about 130 years newer than the world's first underground railway in London UK

Are these driverless trains?
Somewhat. They're automatic, but are monitored by dispatchers (From what I can tell)

i remember i came here when i was 7(im a resident) and seeing this being built
So I'm surmising that since this "train" doesn't have any visible tracks I guess it uses the strong electro magnets on the side to control it...
