Dipa Karmakar’s success at Rio 2016 not only helped etch her name in the history books but also helped breathe a new lease of life into the sport of Gymnastics in India. Famously known for her magnificent performance in ‘the Vault’, she got a standing ovation for pulling off the ‘Produnova’ in the finals. She narrowly missed out on a podium spot finishing 4th, but she surely won the hearts of millions back home. Here’s a look back at Dipa Karmakar's journey at Rio 2016.

Bcos of her, most ppl in India will have watched gymnastics for the first time. Gave a name to Tripura also!
I can predict that that no. will be in millions! But still most people don't about Gymnastics and this is where we lack. Our education system is mean, we can't pursue our interest along with acing in academics. We need to choose one and I've experienced it in my journey.

We don't need more laws for protection of women but we do need to stop people abusing this laws for personal benefits. We need better judicial reforms this system is rusty and delaying and top to bottom corrupt.

This women is legendary!She belongs a country which neither watches gymnastics nor provides facility for it. More so, she comes from a small state of North East. And after all those odds, she does so well! She is already a winner. She did give her best and that is all we can ask from our sport stars. Massive respect!

She did not qualify for 2020 yet. And even if she magically does, she wont have a chance for Gold with Simone competing. A bronze would be nice though. However, he chances to qualify for Tokio are almost zero
Because of Covid-19 and with the postponement of the Olympics now she got chances to qualify as two world Cup events left in which she has to give her best 😊😊🇮🇳

She requested for a physio and our Indian committee rejected it as they thought it as a waste expenditure... When she reached finals a physio was sent like a rocket from India to Brazil so that this matter doesn't come out 😏...

The lack of training and infrastructure is because of lack of political will so far in India. I hope the present government turned its sight now on sports. Hope Dipa Karmakar already won the Gold Medal in the heart of every Indian. She will definitely inspire the next generations a lot. All the credits that are going to come are all due to Karmakar's Energy level that inspired whoever.
