Mr. Fiske Hanley describes his flight on a B-36 PEACEMAKER that was a test flight for bombing Moscow. Flown on an early B-36B (no jets), the flight barely escaped tragedy.
Thank you for keep adding more about the 36 ' I've been I life long love of this plans ( only 40 years so far) I have I think every book title and Don's dvds about them ' but every new photo book or insite is a real bonus ' thanks again for your time and effort and those that have contributed now and many years ago.
The US announcement to develop a hydrogen bomb was only a few months earlier in Jan 1950- no one had any idea what one would weigh but that it would likely be the maximum for a B-36. The AF was certainly doing the flight to see if it could be done - putting a 28k bomb in the rear and 12k in the front to equal 40k, near the max for a single bomb bay (maybe only had a 28k conventional bomb available). The takeoff weight problem was probably not the bombs but the needed high fuel load.

"no ,we're going to finish the mission" , aaargh
Wow. So much hanging on a thread.
I'm surprised and disappointed that so few people have commented on or viewed this speech. This was absolutely fascinating.
Yes, it is fascinating! We can learn so much hearing from the people who were actually there.
