the first time i saw eddie cleanhead vinson was in the city of san pedro,california at a club called amber light located at the end of the freeway...had a great time,that was the first time i ever went to a jazz/blues club... mr vinson i would love to see you in the south some time...shreveport,little rock,hot springs,just to name a few and i would be there with bells on.
When I heard Mingus at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Fest in '73, he hired Cleanhead to front the band, and they played nothing but blues and lots of Eddie's hits. Apparently Charles took the BLUES part of the festival title quite seriously. Thanks for this!
