These classic blues players were/still are real musicians. Such a joy to hear them play music that is genuine and not garbage like way too much they plan on the air today. We need to bring an era back that respects and remembers music like this.
@@andrewlowe9969whats so sad is i see so many musicians who are still doing this music being ignored because people assume they don’t exist anymore. Even though they are right on UA-cam. Some people get very caught up on what’s playing on the air thinking that’s all there is or that somehow that music erases the appreciation for this music. Music tastes change and many people have a habit of hating newer music. I remember some of my Grandparents not liking THIS music because it was different than what they grew up with. Fortunately, you can find hundreds of genres now and pick whatever you want as someone is always playing the type of music people like from all eras of music. I met a 17 year old years ago who only liked music from the 1700s. Luckily you can find that too. It’s all out there and it’s still being played or influencing new music.

He had a special way of playing his guitars he was like an old style playing the Blues I'm listening to how to use the play is guitar in I'm thinking now that he used to play it just like the blues players but I believe he told me that somebody when he was younger talking about to play a good time when he was younger and the way he played it is like John Lee Hooker. That's how my father used to play the guitar when I was growing up . I remember when we used to go to my uncle's house and he used to have cookouts at his house. The kids have to go down in the basement in a grown-ups be upstairs. And they used to play the blues all night long. And when my cousin was asleep they used to wake him up to see him dancing to the funky chicken or whatever it was crazy they are working out of his sleep and they would brag about their son know how to dance and they will wake him out of his sleep to make him dance do funky chicken or whatever it was crazy . Now Father's Day is coming up and I feel some type of way.😢 but listening to the Blues bring black good memories of my father.😢😢😢😢😢
This is simple guitar playing for today's fretboard wizards. They can copy the licks easily. The only thing they can't do is play them with conviction, and that is why people still listen to Lonnie Johnson.
I know what you mean is a positive response to the music but I just wanted to reiterate that making people feel an emotion is not as easy as copying licks and running all around the fretboard. It is to choose notes which have relevance to the mood and the message you're trying to push through. Also nowadays, if you look at pop music, it isn't as musically rich as this. There are changes, movements, a simple story, and man hear that piano in the background and the walking bassline. For a songwriter today to make this music, well I think they would have to hear his music. This is seamless integration of so many different elements, and also musically different stuff on the different instruments.
This was simple guitar playing for Lonnie Johnson. He was an accomplished jazz guitarist who played with Duke Ellington Eddie Lang Louis Armstrong and King Oliver. Remember each generation of musicians can draw upon the knowledge of previous generations.
@@MrSkeeja He was certainly ahead of his time. His sessions with the hot fives and sevens are amazing. A true prototype to modern day soloing. Would’ve loved to see Louis And Lonnie make a blues only record.
Watched him every time he played at the Penny Farthing in Toronto, He played with Jim McHarg's Metro Stompers, a British Trad band. That was 50 years ago! Wonderful memories!
That indeed was quite an era, I still have my old "Coda" mags which chronicled a lot of what went on and visited A&A, abd Jazz&Blues records, hung out a bit with John and Bill who had Sackville Records then
Charlie Christian and a small handful of others created the idiom of electric guitar in jazz. Aaron "T-Bone" Walker and Lonnie Johnson helped create the electric blues side of the house. The man - Johnson - was a real pioneer who probably didn't get recognized during his lifetime as the real giant of music he was.
Lonnie Johnson was not only a virtuoso guitar player, who could play blues, ballads, and Jazz, but he was a wonderful singer. What a great voice! Notice that the many clips from this broadcast have the great Willie Dixon playing bass with most of these performers.
I love that comment about how good a singer Lonnie Johnson was. I read a jazz book that claimed he was some king of weak singer and I couldn't disagree with that more.
@@fredfinley4231 I did some research and there were two drummers listed for these blues festivals in Germany. One was Clifton James, and the other is Armand "Jump" Jackson. Pictures of either drummer do not look like the guy in the video. But his sunglasses make it hard to match him, plus he is only shown in profile.
By now, I must have watched this video of the legendary Lonnie Johnson over 100 times, and STILL learn some new guitar licks with each viewing. I think that the first recording I heard from him was blues FIDDLE... from the 1920s ^..^
his voice sounds just as beautiful and smooth as his guitar playing. Lonnie, guitar and soul all melt together.
also the boring crowd doesnt deseve him.
Hello nice meeting you
@@SP-mf9sh absolutely❤❤😊
An amazing smooth voice and great guitar playing too = awesome!
A truly amazing artist and showman. It was so stragic he was hit by a car in my town Toronto, was badly injured and his life was cut short by it. Can hear Chuck Berry in his playing who got it from T-Bone Walker who was a disciple of Lonnie.

WOW, MAN, THIS IS MUSIC FOR REAL!
Gosh damn !!!! Those were the days!!!! Absolutely Beautiful!!!!
Sonny Boy is an amazing artist in his own right on harmonica, love his voice too, unique and unforgettable! God bless these amazing Blues players gone but not forgotten. Our broken world needs them to return and teach today's lost youth what real music and artistry truly is.
Good morning 🌞 Wishing you a blessed day.
What a starry night, Willy Dixon, Ottis Spann, and the real one and only Sonny boy Williamson to introduce Lonnie... WOW ❤️!
Who's on the drums?
I had to get back to the roots and found a lot of greatness I unfortunately never knew
Don't let me forget this music...
I from El Salvador 🇸🇻 but I really love classic music for USA! I’m 36 years old but I really like this music
It's nice to be in the company of people who appreciate real music.
WOW, this is one cool cat 😊😊😊

My Dad pass away in November if 2023 and looking this giving me sweet remembering of him play the guitar 🎸 😢he use to play like this!!!! And he play in gospel quartet music gospel. The name of the group was called the Cumberland Rivers in the other group he used to play with was called Slim and The Morning Echoes.
Yes sir , that man tells it like it is !mmm .... SOIOII GOOD !!!
Hallo, diese Stimme habe ich vorher noch nicht gehört. Absolut. Ganz toll. Soll in die Welt getragen werden.❤❤❤
BINGO
This was simple guitar playing for Lonnie Johnson. He was an accomplished jazz guitarist who played with Duke Ellington Eddie Lang Louis Armstrong and King Oliver.
Remember each generation of musicians can draw upon the knowledge of previous generations.
@@MrSkeeja He was certainly ahead of his time. His sessions with the hot fives and sevens are amazing. A true prototype to modern day soloing. Would’ve loved to see Louis And Lonnie make a blues only record.

What a voice.
Ladies & gents, the man who all but invented the guitar solo. Got chills when he started singing.
Yes...the most unsung of all the masters.
I thought it was Charlie Christian
no Charlie Christian's Idol!!
And Eddie Lang of course.
WHO,S DRUMMIN ?
@@fredfinley4231 I did some research and there were two drummers listed for these blues festivals in Germany. One was Clifton James, and the other is Armand "Jump" Jackson.
