The "booty" shot wasn't for the booty it was for the house. It was single shot (so no other camera angles were needed, saving shooting time), but it was with a wide-angle lens so the house starts to stretch and "loom" over Pam as she gets closer, so the house looks like it's actually creeping over her. It's to convey the sense of menace now that the audience knows the house is dangerous.
The "pause" Leatherface does is because Gunnar Hansen was wearing lifts in his shoes, so it was very hard for him to pivot without falling over, so the little turn he does was the only way he could change direction.
It's funny you say Sally is fast because Marilyn Burns was such a slow runner that the other actors kept catching up to her. That's why there's so much coverage during the chase sequences: they had to pad out the scenes to hide the closing distance. Poor Edwin Neal had to dance all over the driveway so she could get ahead of him.
There probably wasn't any gas. 1973 was the middle of the Saudi Oil Embargo that crippled US industry and civilian car traffic. Gas stations did indeed run out on a regular basis. It's one of the main reasons we became so heavy-handed in the Middle East afterward: to make sure it couldn't happen again.

I did find “booty” angle strange because I noticed it happened at the gas station too, but I also noticed it was a pattern not just with the girls. (The shot of her with the house did make it more eerie)
Wow the pause fact is actually so cool that there was a reason he did it. I feel like it added to leather faces character
Haha yes the scene when he is chasing sally is so silly because I’m like how has he not caught her yet?
I guess now I can’t see a U.S. gas station running out of gas now because of how we are now. Thank you, I really loved this information!

@@STARISMID I try to do that for all the reactors. Enriches the experience, I think.
And you're right in a way. Leatherface is an overgrown child so a lot of his behaviors are kind of comical. Notice how he flinches when he sees Sally on the stairs after cutting through the door. She actually scares him for a second.

You have to remember, in the '70s and in a low-budget indi film a "booty shot" would be nothing out of the ordinary, except for how well it was done.
And of course they wouldn't focus on the guy's butts.

Looming, low angle photography is a staple of horror filmmaking, which well done effectively conveys a visual sense of impending menace but I wanted to mention- intentional or not, exploitable elements, like pretty bottoms in tight pants, are the bread n butter of the indie film business and if anything Chainsaw is curiously restrained in this regard. Other horror and exploitation films of the 70s /80s era tended to be full of outright nudity and sex scenes (example: Halloween 1978) which are absent from Chainsaw.

I’m sorry, but if two of my friends said that they were going swimming and would be back in an hour, and three hours later they’re not back. Then my other friends goes to look for them and tells me he’ll be back in about thirty minutes, and several hours later he’s not back…I’m not going looking for them.
I’d get in that damn van and drive away on whatever fumes it’s got left, then hitchhike to the closest Sheriffs or State Police station and tell them, “Officer, me and my friends had a run in with a lunatic that cut one of them. We got away, stopped at this place, three went wandering off and none of them came back. This isn’t my problem anymore, it y’all’s problem, you can deal with it.”

This is what any sane person would do lol. If 2 didn’t come back.. then 1 didn’t come back.. if the math is correct!! I’m not coming back either!!

Nope, Jerry didn't get away. Pretty sure that was also Jerry's hair that Leatherface was wearing as a wig at the end. So Sally was literally being tormented by a dude wearing the scalp of her boyfriend that he just killed. And that was human BBQ they were all eating at the beginning. And that was likely the meat of Sally's friends on the plate they put in front of her. Good shit!

it was not very pleasant for the cast being in this movie due to the very hot weather and also some bad working conditions and mishaps to some of the cast members. also it is said that big rig trailer driver at the end of this movie is still running down the highway to this very day! that poor guy!

*the corpses and skeletons are real, fun fact, those you see in the opening* and you've probably heard of Ed Gein.. who made furniture outta peoples skin and he was a graverobber so that's the idea behind Leatherface

Check out "Eaten Alive". The actress that plays Sally in this is in it. Also if you watch RHBH, a young (about 9 or 10 years old) Kyle Richards is also in the movie. X borrows a whole lot from that movie too, especially a very unique element. I think it would be interesting for you to see that one too.

It was "true" in the sense that it was influenced by Ed Gein, a notorious American serial killer. If you want a REAL scare, an actual true story, learn a bit about that dude...

I actually did some research a bit after and yeah it was so disturbing what he did with the bodies.. I also found out he was inspiration for Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs and Norman Bates in Psycho

@@STARISMID Yeppers. Folks back then were fascinated and horrified... and eager to make characters and stories out of such a f**ked reality. It is kind of interesting, because you can watch culture shits just by watching how Gein's influence was used. Psycho is relatively tame (though great). Leatherface is super visceral and the worst parts of Gein's story are showcased. Then comes Buffalo Bill, who is portrayed kind of in the middle. Not whitewashed like Psycho or ramped up to 11 like Texas Chainsaw Massacre...
