I am afraid to say it ...but this girl is the real QUEEN OF ROCK AND ROLL
This is a woman.
Idk why you're afraid, but as was previously pointed out, she's a woman. And a proud black one at that. Is that what you're afraid of?
She invented rock and roll guitar. She was a gospel singer.
@@yinkastinka A grown-ass woman.
Nothing to be afraid of. What the h is that even supposed to mean?
Not only am I blown away by her amazing talent, but also by the huge amount of positive energy she radiates.
Right? The sheer joy she radiates is just beautiful
Elle était certainement en Christ, cad, chrétienne, elle avait la Foi
Car ma Foi en Dieu donne de l énergie, de la force, du courage et de l esprit
Elle chante: de la lumière dans son esprit, n est ce pas
Absolutely. Charisma, positivity, n power.
She definitely plays her music with authority.
That's the light shining! I'snt that perfect!
Best rabbit hole ive fallen down in months. That voice, she doesnt need a microphone, people at the back of the room two towns over can hear her sing.
Yes indeedy! Thank you UA-cam Algorithm!!
Now here is an artist who deserves a movie made about their life.. What a wonderful musical it would be.
I'd cast Leslie Jones! 😁🎉
💯%!!
There is a documentary or two on the internet
The Grandmother of Rock and Roll . She started it all!
The only difference between her and those playing Rock later, was what the word Rock represented in the lyric. Hers was the Rock of age, their's was with to with dance or f***k. Not being provocative, we all know the euphemism, starting with Good Rockin' tonight, by Roy Brown, Wynonie Harris and Elvis' second release at Sun. That lyric goes back to the 20's with My man rocks me, (with a steady roll) and it was not about rocking chairs and roller skates.
Not at all, but one of the granparents of the rock and roll. In 1929 there already were Rock-ish songs
The queen,
She was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A true angel
SHE BIRTHED AND CREATED ROCK AND ROLL
She was inducted into God's heavenly hall of fame loooong before that!
Sad that thieving Elvis Presley been in the Hall of Fame but true acts of talent are always past due
...and now has a USPS postage stamp! 😀
Rock n roll wouldn't exit with out people like the Sister.
If it wasn't for You Tube and platforms like it, and people from previous generations sharing, I would never of known that this woman ever exsisted. She was brave and generations ahead of her time. Was doing things BEFORE more well known men
of both races did them. This woman should be talked about around the dinner table, in university classes, and given the credit deserved. Hall of fame dont mean much anymore, but like a previous commentor stated,... "we'll take it." If todays and tomorrows musicians hear her and are influenced by her then I bet she would be happy. And I would be too.
Be happy because they do and they are. She is a forever star. Her bravery included that she was early to have a mixed heritage band, when very often such groups were banned from playing most venues. (btw I refrain from using the term "mixed race" because we are one race having many colors and cultural heritages.) ...funny...my name: the T stands for Tina.
You are right, of course! Tina :-) I didn't even realize about the mixed Heritage band. She was so very ahead of her time and broke thru so many barriers!
A lot of blacks of her era and the ones that came before her did actually produce much creative content. But you know, there was Jim Crow and what not
Perfectly stated Tina 👍🏻
You are so right about that!👍
I bought one of her records in 1957. She was way before her time and a rock pioneer. Especially when she got into the electric guitar. Fantastic.
amazing story!
How old are you?
90 in december, with a bit of luck.😉@@lucaslopes6334
Sad, Why is. that sad? Might I inquire? sad? disapointing, maybe, but sad?
@@lucaslopes6334 hitting the 80s
Sister Rosetta was a truly staggering talent, MANY of imitators but only one QUEEN.
Been a fan of hers since my grandmother told me about her and hearing her music when I was a young girl. I am now 75...and still a big fan!
😮 she is absolutely amazing, beautiful and extremely talented. Elvis Presley was a big fan of hers. This woman is great !
How come I am only hearing about this lady now ? Amazing !
So sad she's not known much better. Her guitar is amazing and was so influential.
If you listen close you hear all genres!
I’m sorry I didn’t get to hear Sister Rosetta Tharpe play live. In my defense, I was only 15 when she died.
in these time nobody knows a shit about anybody...now all is done by two computers ,autotune and others computer gadgets
Sister Rosetta Tharp has a very interesting biography. She was an extremely popular gospel artist before WW2 that played country blues on an acoustic guitar. During the war, she was one of two gospel artists that recorded songs on the military's Victory Label that were played for the servicemen on the radio. After the war she was gifted with one of the first electric guitars. She experimented on it to charge her sound. All early rock & roll guitarists said they copied her riffs.
Would love to see a movie made about her.
Now that I didn't know wow !👍💯💯💯💯💯
@@religiohominilupus5259yeah I would definitely love to see that if they make one about her I really hope they do that
Aww, I'm feeling a lotta love for Sister Rosetta Tharpe right this moment. Her voice, her singing, her guitar playing...her light! Wow!🥰
Talent personified. 🏆
She lights up the whole room
God, take me back to a time where this level of talent was the norm.
So lucky we are to be able watch this in 2023 ❤
She is one of the greatest singer/guitarists to ever have lived
I get full body goosebumps when she lays out a little riff or hits any high note
A True Legend of music 🏆
Прекрасная женщина, создавшая прекрасную музыку! Такая бешеная харизма!
This woman of God could work that guitar..Sing and play Sis Tharpe to the Glory of God
Sister Rosetta was amazing and I adore her music. I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 50's and 60's cause I got to hear it all and Sister Rosetta was well played in my teenage years. Thank you for sharing.
I go looking for a camp song and Sister Rosetta shows up as the third option? Today was a good day. Good UA-cam bot!
I am gonna let my little light shine . Thanks be to God. Amen.
Not only a powerful singer, but a badass guitarist as well! Beyonce can't hold a candle to the Sister!
Yaaa!!
@@cabbagequeen Ooooh, good comeback! Beyonce could learn a lesson or two about singing from Sister Tharpe without having to dress half naked or wiggle the butt.
@@frankholly1095 excuse me. You could've gave a good compliment without degrading another beutiful black woman stfu both are queens. Whether one want to flaunt her body or not
@@shuou2794 And another person who spits out "stfu" like it's something intelligent. Sister Tharpe was talent, she didn't have to dress in skimpy clothes to get noticed.
@@frankholly1095 omg did you completely over look what I said . Imagine being that fucking ignorant.
Lots of artist of all races from those days we've never heard of and some were very good.
Happy Birthday Sister Rosetta! You blow the roof off that song girl! And boy could you play the guitar! Lady you were too good for words!!!
Im so upset that i never heard of this women until i ran across her on facebook! This women was amazing
I found her about a year ago as well. Very embarrassed that I had never heard of her. She was amazing and the Queen of rock and roll.
Ms. Tharp was one my late mother's favorite Gospel singers, next to Mahalia Jackson. She was impressed how she played her 🎸My personal favorite, "Strange Things Happening Everyday".
I LOVE Old Time Gospel music! You feel it within your Soul! 💚💖🎶🎵🎤
I bet you dident know that chuck berry ripped her style off either did you, that guitar riff that you hear on johnny b goode in 1958 was already being done by sister Rosetta tharpe at least 6 years prior and the worst of it was she actually had to come to Britain to get any recognition she did a whole concert at a train station and it was just amazing she was a really great guitarist and a great singer with presence if anyone got ripped off it was her.
@@paulandersen9492 absolutely!
@@Elvis-guy1973 You are correct. Chuck took a lot from her. Not taking anything away from Mr. Berry but she was the real deal.
“Remember who you are at the deepest level of your Soul, as you embrace the Light and Love of God within you.”
Heidi M. Morrison
Electrifying gospel feeling...Sister Rosetta leads band down road.with powerful vocal guitar presence like no other.Sister Rosetta tuned played guitar consistently better than Chuck berry!!! Thank you for posting appreciated
Thank you for this. What a great lady she was.
Man Rosetta tharpe is just amazing and she got no damn recognition for the part she played in music history.
not yet!
She was on British and french television.. She sold loads of 78s and albums..She’s in all the book written about the era.. She’s had documentaries made about her from the 80s onwards.. Top selling music magazine ‘Mojo’ did several articles about her.. UA-cam pushes any upload featuring her to the top of the algorithm for their own ESG score..She got a considerable amount of recognition … She’s even in the rock and roll hall of fame, which is great because as well as gospel and jazz she actually played some rock and roll influenced stuff..
@@johneeeemarry34 You don't understand. I know very well she toured Europe, but she never got any recognition at home only by people who knew who she was. So, she had to leave America and has only had proper worldwide recognition in the last 20 or 30 years.
So wonderful. Wish we had more of her joyful talent and soulful compassion in music and life today. But she was undeniably wonderfully raucously exuberant in her love for her music. Peace. M
one of the great rock ‘n’ roll legends, this amazing lady deserves far more recognition
Ms Tharpe was the most instantly recognizable female R&B guitarist. (Yes, she sang gospel music but replace a few words and you have R&B). She had an idiosyncratic style of playing - something only very few guitarists ever achieve. One of the greats!
The Mother of Rock 'n Roll! Her light will shine forever!!!
The finest proponent of spiritual singing and lead electric guitar you will ever ever see!
😎Oooooh yeeeeeah!🙆 You were born to play that guitar Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I love your singing and playing of your expertise of your guitar playing. 🙇R.I.P.🙇😇R.T😇
Jumped out of my seat! Which is hard to do because I[m so damn lazy. Loved it!
The GREAT Sister is now and properly mentioned among the alltime superb rockin' performers...LOVE watching her play and sing!
Thank you for sharing!
This lady is so cool, original, and inspirational.
That might be the single greatest video I've ever seen.

Waaaoo This is a True, Real REALITY jazz , More improvation , Great feeling give eveytime 🙋🤗😇♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤩
She feels the music in her soul! Beautiful.
It like Blues, Country, Gospel mixed itself up and became Rock and Roll.
What a great gal. She's loving all the other musicians jamming in the lime light as much as she loves it herself, a true gospel artist
So much love from music seeker from India
La conocí por recomendación de youtube y mi admiración por ella es cada vez más grande. Qué gran cantante!

Hello and how are you doing.. so sorry for invading your privacy. I didn’t mean to but your beauty did , Hope we can be friends
Been playing guitar over 50 yrs, at best a fair to middling player. Got to admit to a pang of envy watching a true natural, one of Gods gifts to music.
Rosetta was big in Europe during 50s & 60s. Chris Barber brought her over in 1957 and she did some great music with Chris's band featuring Ottilie Patterson.
She is so great, I love her music. ❤
Im feeling the shine still !! .. beautiful :)
I have never heard of this women and SHE IS AMAZING I love her music her voice EVERYTHING
Thanks for posting. I subscribed. I liked this song so much I put it on my YT music playlist: 1960's SUPER FANTASTIC MUSIC. MIND BLOWING. IT'S ALL TOO MUCH. PUT IT ON YOUR PHONE! NOT "GREATEST HITS" TOP 40. TOP 1000!

Amazing in every way! It is so sad we never got to learn about her in school or anywhere. Think I'm going to have to help my own community learn more about her. Here's to Tharpe!!!
This woman , in addition inventing R&R, had an incredible energy.
it damn sure did and still does to this very day that's why I love rock and roll music and knowing who invented it that's even more wonderful knowing that
Wow what stage presence and charisma
Wow!
I remember being there in the 90’s.
Dan
Dang. This lady was way ahead of her time. I've played guitar for 40 years, and I might have heard her name before but had never actually heard her playing before. She was definitely, definitely a trailblazer. Respect.
Oh my god! I just discover this women and she shocked me! She is a genius!!
She was a real blues & rock 'n roll guitar hero (virtuoso). Amazing !
Everything! Her musicians, her guitar playing, her singing, style, stage presence. Sister Rosetta was a STAR!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We’ll take it, but she is better than that.
Amazing!!+
Forever wonderful, forever beautiful Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Your light shines girl! ❤
I was once asked who is your favorite all time favorite guitarist... I said Miss Rosetta Tharpe! no question.
From a metal guy, this is amazing. This is the beginning of the music i love today.
Love ALL of this, the rhythm, the voice, the energy....👏
I love Rosetta Tharpe, this is one of the best versions in my opinion.
😚❤
Never heard of her growing up. Women were systematically erased from history. So glad to have learned about Sister Rosetta Thorpe. Women rock!
I am so excited to find this jewel. I never heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe until today and I am so happy I did. Thank you for this post!
I Thank God for you tube when I see a post like this.
Great take on a song most everyone sang when in Sunday school. She delivers with a passion unmatched by almost anyone I have seen. I do get a smile out of the guys in the band with their goatees. So stereotypical of the beatniks of the period. They can all play, and they deliver a great rendition. Bravo.
I absolutely love this!! She was amazing!!! Such a blessing to music!!
Just love this beautiful woman!
The great parts of music criticists and historicians tell that Sister Rosetta Tharpe's music is an anticipation of rock'n roll but for me her music is already rock'n roll!
Ella fue la auténtica progenitora del Rock and Roll. Sin duda.
Thanks girltrek for leading me here. She is an outstanding talent and innovator!!!
What a fantastic performance!! She paved the way for everyone else to follow. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week. 🎶 💜💯
Wow. I just love her music
I'm loving her energy and her skills on the guitar are terrific! I'd go to church more if I had this to look forward to.
Beautiful- just beautiful so much life and energy and from the soul- just beautiful
This Lady is so good she makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time.
Raw, beautiful, sincere talent and what a personality.
