Reminds me of an elderly couple across the street from my parents house. They kept every ball that came onto their property. And chased away all of the kids in my neighborhood except me. I used to sit and talk to them and they used to give me candy and all of the balls. Better to charm and be respectful to elderly. I missed them after they passed away!
There was an elderly couple across the street from where I lived, with my children. Every Halloween they gave the kids in the neighborhood " penny candies" my kids got five dollars in cash. She said it was because they were very respectful. Hellos, goodbyes,helped with bags of groceries. Ya get my flies with honey. 🍯

I’m a mid age adult and I dislike my neighbors kids cutting through my yard. We keep our grass tidy and want to keep it that way. Also, the neighbors kids think every yard is theirs. It’s the parents fault.
Same here we NEVER ENTERED ANYONES YARD. If something went over in someone's yard we knocked on the door and asked if we could get it..kids will be kids but today's kids are not taught to be polite and respectful..Its shameful the way alot of these kids act..
Last summer a little girl threw a ball in my backyard and her mom asked if she could retrieve it. As soon as the mom went back into the house the little girl walked up to my fence and threw it back in my yard. Well my son had to cut the grass. He saw the ball and threw it in the trash. He said apparently she didn't want the ball 🤷🏽♀️

When my dad was a boy in the 60’s his neighbor kept all the baseballs that were hit/thrown over the fence. Years later He had a graduation party out back and the old lady next door walked over with a bucket of baseballs and said ‘congratulations and here’s your old baseballs back’
Lamont, you told this obscure story like you were writing a children's book with a lesson in it. She certainly made her mark in the neighborhood history and must have had a great sense of humor. What a cool and humorous story. R.I.P. Miss Edna.
This reminds me of the old gentleman we knew growing up. You know how they look like the "GET OFF MY GRASS" type? Well he always planted water melons and cantaloupe but he would plant them right at the edge of his garden. Where you could just step over from the roadside and pick a couple. He also had several fruit trees on the other side of his house. Apples, peaches, plums, cherries. He lost his wife several years earlier and she was the gardener and dried and home canned the vegetables and fruits. Now all he put in the garden was the melons. A few tomatoes plants, beans. My dad would go plow his garden and cut his winter wood. Dad never charged him because he was an elder in our community. And that's how our community worked. But, back then we could walk to friends homes, and take items from one house to another house for everyone in the community. We were rural country and everyone knew everyone. We maybe sent to carry in wood for the winter, take someone a homemade pie, and you knew if someone told you to behave you better. Because everyone was watching the kids. But we thought getting a melon, or some fruit was fun and we loved it. He would set on his porch and when he saw us come walking down the road. He would yell "you kids stay out of my melons" or fruit with every was ripe at that time. One of us would answer "yes sir" so whom ever answer him would be the one. But there would be a melon or 2 taken, or a few Apples or fruit. Now the whole thing was he planted those melons for us kids, and he wanted us to have the fruit. He would just yell as to let us know what was ripe. He would make a big deal over it. But a few years later I was sent to take him some homemade bread. And before I left he said "sissy, there's a bag of chocolate drop in a bag by my chair on the table. Now you make sure you don't get that bag" and he smiled. I then told him I had taken melons and fruit but I don't want him to hate me. He said child, I planted those melons for you kids. And I want you all to have fruit. I've never been mad, and you're dad knows why I plant them. It was his way of allowing us to do a little mischief we thought. We would have never knew when the melons was ripe if he hadn't yell about them. So the old gentleman was having fun and feeding the children just in his on way. He passed away several years later. And everyone of us childen sang at his grave side a old song he would sing. About his old hunting dog, even the kids that had grown up and moved came to his funeral and we sang that song. Because they wouldn't let us sing it at the church because it had a few colorful words...LMBO he was missed for many years

What a sweet story. I sure do miss those days!! I loved to chat with the elderly. I ALWAYS learned something. They were so kind and ALWAYS trying to give something. A stick of gum, anything because it meant something to them. RIP to all that I knew that was so kind. I miss those days immensely ❤
I got cursed out for holding the doors in Walgreens. For an old lady, about 90. Boy did she freaked out asking me if I thought she was old. I said "not at all, I was being polite. I was taught manners."

As a 7 year old, I was dared to pick flowers off this woman's lawn.. got cursed out, she cursed my family out.. then she decided to take it too far and turned into one of my stalkers until she went into a nursing home :/

I met Edna a few years before her passing. My brother and I were driving down her street one day, when I saw her trying to weed the side of her house while using a cane. I immediately pulled over and offered to help her weed her garden and she obliged. After the weeding was done, we sat and chatted for a while and she hinted to us that she was famous. She went on to tell the story about the football and the arrest and she was so proud that she stood up for herself! I stopped by weekly for a while to visit with her. She was a sweet lady! RIP Edna!

I believe many of us raised in the 70’s would have known an Edna, and they were respected. Your parents would say “don’t bother Edna….I MEAN IT” and you knew boundaries. Things have changed now. I don’t know why, but they have….for the worst. RIP Edna.
I love this woman! My parents raised me not to play on or around the neighbors houses unless invited. It’s just a matter of respect….. good for her! It was extra special that her great granddaughter shared the story.
I grew up where there was 2 feet between homes. Sometimes, the ball ended up in someone's yard even though we did not mean it. Read what I wrote about my Dad when a ball landed on his roof.

Meaner than a snake when you threw something in her yard but if we were just hanging out with and talking to her grandkids she was as sweet as sugar.

I’m nearing 60 years old. When I see kids playing ball near my yard (which is very rare in this age, but it does happen), I go outside and play with them. The sight and sounds of kids playing outside brings joy to my heart. Life goes by so quickly. What in Gods name is wrong with old hags like this?
Can’t just send your kids to the park by themselves these days. Mainly due to the nasty people out & about who would love to do something to a child. Also, yards are so small, if at all these days. We had an acre lot for our children. They knew the punishment of having to go into the neighbor’s yards when playing outside, especially if the ball hit the house, damaging the house, flowerbeds, etc. Taught them to respect other’s rights & property. Unfortunately, not many parents teaching that today. Glad the way we raised our three. Sure, they did kid things. However, none made any grades lower than a C+, never fired from a job, no criminal history, respects everyone, & have blessed me with 9 grandchildren. So far, they are turning out like their parents, which is hard in today’s world of wokeness, always someone else’s fault, etc.

This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I love the way Lamont tells the story in a very entertaining manner while still being respectful of the victims when he does true crime stories. That’s not easy to do I would think. I agree with this woman though as the kids in my area drive me bonkers! They have not been taught an ounce of respect for others property ( or privacy, or desire to be in our own living room enjoying a program without kids screaming by or starring into our windows). Heaven forbid you ask a kid now a days to not play in your yard, they may just whip out a gun and shoot at you.😡🤬
I have a neighbor that's probably 20-25 years older than me when we first moved here she would get mad every time my now grown sons balls would get in her yard. Everyone called her a Btch well Ms Ruth is the best neighbor on the block (not nosey as hell like Vivian another neighbor) well her husband died about 10 years ago and she had 1 son that committed suicide many yrs ago the woman's been through a lot.
Didn’t know the mean lady’s name who yelled at us kids. She was known as ‘Ole’ Man Turner’s Wife”. Back in the days, in Ohio, summertime we stayed out till the street lights came on, houses had no central air conditioning, & not a care in the world! It was mainly the boys that got yelled at!! I used to have a little brat that lived next door that constantly hit my roof and the side of my house with his baseballs, and I was worried that he would break one of my windows. He would constantly run into my fenced yard to retrieve his baseballs. When I complained to his father, he told me that his son was a child that loved practicing baseball and how could I try to ruin that for him. I finally decided to move because I was a renter and the father owned his house, but I wish I had the "balls" that Edna had and kept the brat's baseballs. I'm sure his father would have called the police on me 😑
I have to laugh at this one. I’m not “old” (well I’m not young either), and the boys next door CONSTANTLY shoot balls into my yard. I’m losing my mind. I’m taking a tip from mrs jester and starting a basement museum
I couldn't help but smile throughout the entirety of this story because it made me reminisce on my own mamaw. It reminded me so much of her. She's been gone 31 years now and I still miss her so much. This video, my humble opinion was definitely one of your best yet and I had a ball watching it thanks to her taking someone else's ball! Great episode!!
It was a good story and I started out against Mrs Edna and by the end and Lamont's telling it and her granddaughter I was completely on the old ladies side and was mad they had arrested her!

I love Edna & I love her story!! I know about living under strict rules as kids. My mother is Sicilian & no means no means no. 35 years after I did something wrong, she still talks about it..! There is humor and joy in the stubbornness of strict rules when the person is a total sweetheart who loves everyone. As long as we all remember... no means no means no. Being a good neighbor is the most important thing when you live in a neighborhood if only for purely selfish reasons. You may need help at any time especially if you are elderly. Even more so though, it is so nice to be surrounded by kindness.
In my late 20's I lived next to a home that had 4 small children---and they drove us crazy--running in our yard--it was fenced---playing football on our front- yard -- screaming constantly--hitting our house with balls-they thought they could do as they liked---Mom was a wack job---finially had it out with the dad--we ended up moving.... so I understand this lady...
Sorry to read your comment & it ended by you moving. Sad that a lot of parents don’t care these days about others & what their children are doing to others. I would bet at least one of those kids are known to the authorities. Just my opinion.
I had a similar experience in my mid 20's. There was a similar old woman with a crabby personality in New Jersey about 20 years ago. Except she hated everybody and wanted nobody to disturb her peace and quiet. So, the mail piled up, the grass grew tall, the electric company was not paid and the power disconnected. Snow piled up in winter, unshoveled. Finally, one day a window was broken, and someone finally called the police to investigate. The woman's skeletal remains were on her kitchen floor, along with those of her dog. They estimate she had been dead for well over a year, but nobody inquired because this woman wanted to be left alone.
Sad story (I especially feel bad for the dog, who probably starved to death). I have to ask...Did this old lady's window get broken by a ball going through it? LOL
A shame that her neighbours equated "leaving her in peace" with "being unconcerned" that she disappeared from everyday sight, and the clues were there that something was not right but nobody thought to raise awareness. Mail piling up should have given it away, not fixing her yard up if that was something she had previously done, electric bill not being paid/cut off, dog not being walked/let out.... Even with the crabbiest of neighbours, stuff like this is an indicator that something isnt right yet no-one cared enough to go past that "crabbiness" to check up on her?

Edna’s granddaughter tells that Edna was very frugal. Remember, she was born in USA in 1919, so just ten-years old when the depression began, so she knew hard times. Then, early-twenties when USA entered WWII. Sounds as if Edna was a lovely lady. The pic of her with the box of tomatoes, she looks like she was pretty, too What a fun story. May her memory be a blessing.

We had a neighbor that liked to yell obscenities at any kid that rode their bicycle in front of his property. He moved after the teens started using paint balls and eggs for target practice off his house. It's the weirdest thing, no houses get egged or paint balled since he left.

Lamont, I actually Loved the story and I totally emphasize with where Edna was coming from. I'm 60 Years Old and I was raised with With Respect, Morals and Values. My Dad was very strict about what a Sidewalk is for! We never cut through anyone's Yard and We Played in our own Yard or at our Friend's place. You'd never see My Sisters and I walking in the Street unless We were crossing it. My Parents were very strict and I don't blame them because it helped make Me who I am today. I Love Your Stories and content Brother. Some of it takes Me back to a time when I was Young and I Truly Appreciate it Brother 🙏 Keep doing what You do and don't listen to the negativity Brother. I love love love that you do lesser known stories about people we otherwise would not know about. I still to this day teach my 2 year old grandson not to play or even walk into a neighbors yard the way I was taught as a kid. If it ain't yours don't bother it was my families philosophy!

This is a great story, thank you and her granddaughter for sharing her story, I love the fact that they put a football in her casket. What a great idea! We did something similar to my grandmoms grave, she always like to wear pants she always called them "slacks" and when she passed, they put her in a nice white blouse and pink pants that she always wore in her grave.
Beautifully told! Every neighborhood has a Ms. Edna. I bet she was also well aware of the going ons in the street and was also keeping a safety eye out on those same kids. I was taught to have the utmost respect for senior citizens and I would have never have even attempted to reclaim the ball when her rules were made clear so that would have only elevated the situation and made kids think parents can break rules. She was just an elderly lady who just wanted to live her last days in peace . Good for her putting her foot down . I admit as a child we all did that to our elderly neighbors, but we learnt not to do it again. I guess you can say the ball🏈 is in her court now .🤗 RIP Edna ⚘️

It was a respect thing. You didn't walk across a yard, step on their grass, pick their flowers or bother a person and their property in any way. It took a lot of hard work to get a home and they were proud about it. You also always respected the people, especially the elders. I do not even see any such respect anymore. Anywhere or ever. I'm old as dirt but I remember when I was a child we were taught never, ever set foot on anyone's property. No cutting threw anyone's yard to get there faster, so I can relate! RIP dear Edna!

I’m a mid age adult and I dislike my neighbors kids cutting through my yard. We keep our grass tidy and want to keep it that way. Also, the neighbors kids think every yard is theirs. It’s the parents fault.

Same here we NEVER ENTERED ANYONES YARD. If something went over in someone's yard we knocked on the door and asked if we could get it..kids will be kids but today's kids are not taught to be polite and respectful..Its shameful the way alot of these kids act..

Last summer a little girl threw a ball in my backyard and her mom asked if she could retrieve it. As soon as the mom went back into the house the little girl walked up to my fence and threw it back in my yard. Well my son had to cut the grass. He saw the ball and threw it in the trash. He said apparently she didn't want the ball 🤷🏽♀️

When my dad was a boy in the 60’s his neighbor kept all the baseballs that were hit/thrown over the fence. Years later He had a graduation party out back and the old lady next door walked over with a bucket of baseballs and said ‘congratulations and here’s your old baseballs back’

Lamont, you told this obscure story like you were writing a children's book with a lesson in it. She certainly made her mark in the neighborhood history and must have had a great sense of humor. What a cool and humorous story. R.I.P. Miss Edna.
This reminds me of the old gentleman we knew growing up. You know how they look like the "GET OFF MY GRASS" type? Well he always planted water melons and cantaloupe but he would plant them right at the edge of his garden. Where you could just step over from the roadside and pick a couple. He also had several fruit trees on the other side of his house. Apples, peaches, plums, cherries. He lost his wife several years earlier and she was the gardener and dried and home canned the vegetables and fruits. Now all he put in the garden was the melons. A few tomatoes plants, beans. My dad would go plow his garden and cut his winter wood. Dad never charged him because he was an elder in our community. And that's how our community worked. But, back then we could walk to friends homes, and take items from one house to another house for everyone in the community. We were rural country and everyone knew everyone. We maybe sent to carry in wood for the winter, take someone a homemade pie, and you knew if someone told you to behave you better. Because everyone was watching the kids. But we thought getting a melon, or some fruit was fun and we loved it. He would set on his porch and when he saw us come walking down the road. He would yell "you kids stay out of my melons" or fruit with every was ripe at that time. One of us would answer "yes sir" so whom ever answer him would be the one. But there would be a melon or 2 taken, or a few Apples or fruit. Now the whole thing was he planted those melons for us kids, and he wanted us to have the fruit. He would just yell as to let us know what was ripe. He would make a big deal over it. But a few years later I was sent to take him some homemade bread. And before I left he said "sissy, there's a bag of chocolate drop in a bag by my chair on the table. Now you make sure you don't get that bag" and he smiled. I then told him I had taken melons and fruit but I don't want him to hate me. He said child, I planted those melons for you kids. And I want you all to have fruit. I've never been mad, and you're dad knows why I plant them. It was his way of allowing us to do a little mischief we thought. We would have never knew when the melons was ripe if he hadn't yell about them. So the old gentleman was having fun and feeding the children just in his on way. He passed away several years later. And everyone of us childen sang at his grave side a old song he would sing. About his old hunting dog, even the kids that had grown up and moved came to his funeral and we sang that song. Because they wouldn't let us sing it at the church because it had a few colorful words...LMBO he was missed for many years

I got cursed out for holding the doors in Walgreens. For an old lady, about 90. Boy did she freaked out asking me if I thought she was old. I said "not at all, I was being polite. I was taught manners."

As a 7 year old, I was dared to pick flowers off this woman's lawn.. got cursed out, she cursed my family out.. then she decided to take it too far and turned into one of my stalkers until she went into a nursing home :/

I met Edna a few years before her passing. My brother and I were driving down her street one day, when I saw her trying to weed the side of her house while using a cane. I immediately pulled over and offered to help her weed her garden and she obliged. After the weeding was done, we sat and chatted for a while and she hinted to us that she was famous. She went on to tell the story about the football and the arrest and she was so proud that she stood up for herself! I stopped by weekly for a while to visit with her. She was a sweet lady! RIP Edna!

I believe many of us raised in the 70’s would have known an Edna, and they were respected. Your parents would say “don’t bother Edna….I MEAN IT” and you knew boundaries. Things have changed now. I don’t know why, but they have….for the worst. RIP Edna.

I love this woman! My parents raised me not to play on or around the neighbors houses unless invited. It’s just a matter of respect….. good for her! It was extra special that her great granddaughter shared the story.
I grew up where there was 2 feet between homes. Sometimes, the ball ended up in someone's yard even though we did not mean it. Read what I wrote about my Dad when a ball landed on his roof.

Meaner than a snake when you threw something in her yard but if we were just hanging out with and talking to her grandkids she was as sweet as sugar.

I’m nearing 60 years old. When I see kids playing ball near my yard (which is very rare in this age, but it does happen), I go outside and play with them. The sight and sounds of kids playing outside brings joy to my heart. Life goes by so quickly. What in Gods name is wrong with old hags like this?

Can’t just send your kids to the park by themselves these days. Mainly due to the nasty people out & about who would love to do something to a child. Also, yards are so small, if at all these days. We had an acre lot for our children. They knew the punishment of having to go into the neighbor’s yards when playing outside, especially if the ball hit the house, damaging the house, flowerbeds, etc. Taught them to respect other’s rights & property. Unfortunately, not many parents teaching that today. Glad the way we raised our three. Sure, they did kid things. However, none made any grades lower than a C+, never fired from a job, no criminal history, respects everyone, & have blessed me with 9 grandchildren. So far, they are turning out like their parents, which is hard in today’s world of wokeness, always someone else’s fault, etc.

This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I love the way Lamont tells the story in a very entertaining manner while still being respectful of the victims when he does true crime stories. That’s not easy to do I would think. I agree with this woman though as the kids in my area drive me bonkers! They have not been taught an ounce of respect for others property ( or privacy, or desire to be in our own living room enjoying a program without kids screaming by or starring into our windows). Heaven forbid you ask a kid now a days to not play in your yard, they may just whip out a gun and shoot at you.😡🤬

I have a neighbor that's probably 20-25 years older than me when we first moved here she would get mad every time my now grown sons balls would get in her yard. Everyone called her a Btch well Ms Ruth is the best neighbor on the block (not nosey as hell like Vivian another neighbor) well her husband died about 10 years ago and she had 1 son that committed suicide many yrs ago the woman's been through a lot.
Didn’t know the mean lady’s name who yelled at us kids. She was known as ‘Ole’ Man Turner’s Wife”. Back in the days, in Ohio, summertime we stayed out till the street lights came on, houses had no central air conditioning, & not a care in the world! It was mainly the boys that got yelled at!! I used to have a little brat that lived next door that constantly hit my roof and the side of my house with his baseballs, and I was worried that he would break one of my windows. He would constantly run into my fenced yard to retrieve his baseballs. When I complained to his father, he told me that his son was a child that loved practicing baseball and how could I try to ruin that for him. I finally decided to move because I was a renter and the father owned his house, but I wish I had the "balls" that Edna had and kept the brat's baseballs. I'm sure his father would have called the police on me 😑

I couldn't help but smile throughout the entirety of this story because it made me reminisce on my own mamaw. It reminded me so much of her. She's been gone 31 years now and I still miss her so much. This video, my humble opinion was definitely one of your best yet and I had a ball watching it thanks to her taking someone else's ball! Great episode!!
It was a good story and I started out against Mrs Edna and by the end and Lamont's telling it and her granddaughter I was completely on the old ladies side and was mad they had arrested her!

I love Edna & I love her story!! I know about living under strict rules as kids. My mother is Sicilian & no means no means no. 35 years after I did something wrong, she still talks about it..! There is humor and joy in the stubbornness of strict rules when the person is a total sweetheart who loves everyone. As long as we all remember... no means no means no. Being a good neighbor is the most important thing when you live in a neighborhood if only for purely selfish reasons. You may need help at any time especially if you are elderly. Even more so though, it is so nice to be surrounded by kindness.
My Same Thoughts..
In my late 20's I lived next to a home that had 4 small children---and they drove us crazy--running in our yard--it was fenced---playing football on our front- yard -- screaming constantly--hitting our house with balls-they thought they could do as they liked---Mom was a wack job---finially had it out with the dad--we ended up moving.... so I understand this lady...

There was a similar old woman with a crabby personality in New Jersey about 20 years ago. Except she hated everybody and wanted nobody to disturb her peace and quiet. So, the mail piled up, the grass grew tall, the electric company was not paid and the power disconnected. Snow piled up in winter, unshoveled. Finally, one day a window was broken, and someone finally called the police to investigate. The woman's skeletal remains were on her kitchen floor, along with those of her dog. They estimate she had been dead for well over a year, but nobody inquired because this woman wanted to be left alone.
Sad story (I especially feel bad for the dog, who probably starved to death). I have to ask...Did this old lady's window get broken by a ball going through it? LOL
A shame that her neighbours equated "leaving her in peace" with "being unconcerned" that she disappeared from everyday sight, and the clues were there that something was not right but nobody thought to raise awareness.
Mail piling up should have given it away, not fixing her yard up if that was something she had previously done, electric bill not being paid/cut off, dog not being walked/let out....
Even with the crabbiest of neighbours, stuff like this is an indicator that something isnt right yet no-one cared enough to go past that "crabbiness" to check up on her?

Edna’s granddaughter tells that Edna was very frugal.
Remember, she was born in USA in 1919, so just ten-years old when the depression began, so she knew hard times.
Then, early-twenties when USA entered WWII.

We had a neighbor that liked to yell obscenities at any kid that rode their bicycle in front of his property. He moved after the teens started using paint balls and eggs for target practice off his house. It's the weirdest thing, no houses get egged or paint balled since he left.

My Dad was very strict about what a Sidewalk is for!
We never cut through anyone's Yard and We Played in our own Yard or at our Friend's place.
You'd never see My Sisters and I walking in the Street unless We were crossing it.
My Parents were very strict and I don't blame them because it helped make Me who I am today.

I love love love that you do lesser known stories about people we otherwise would not know about. I still to this day teach my 2 year old grandson not to play or even walk into a neighbors yard the way I was taught as a kid. If it ain't yours don't bother it was my families philosophy!

We did something similar to my grandmoms grave, she always like to wear pants she always called them "slacks" and when she passed, they put her in a nice white blouse and pink pants that she always wore in her grave.

Beautifully told! Every neighborhood has a Ms. Edna. I bet she was also well aware of the going ons in the street and was also keeping a safety eye out on those same kids. I was taught to have the utmost respect for senior citizens and I would have never have even attempted to reclaim the ball when her rules were made clear so that would have only elevated the situation and made kids think parents can break rules. If I ever caught up with you in New Jersey, I would love to share what my late father was like. He passed away 4/8/21. Daddy was quite the comedian. I would give anything to laugh at his corny jokes. 💔

I love the way you embellish a story with your own drama. You are really entertaining and good at this! Lol! As a child I had a neighbor lady who grew beautiful flowers in her yard and she longed for a kid to come near them so she could run out the door and scare us.

It was a respect thing. You didn't walk across a yard, step on their grass, pick their flowers or bother a person and their property in any way. It took a lot of hard work to get a home and they were proud about it. You also always respected the people, especially the elders. I do not even see any such respect anymore. Anywhere or ever. It's a shame. Lamont, you are right. No discipline anymore.
I must admit due to your hilarious blogs you make I didn't know where you were going with this story, Lamont. However, this is the most interesting vlog I've heard about Balls by far. Keep making us laugh. This is what we need especially when reflecting on those we've loss in life. This Elder Neighbor seemed to be one not to reckon with and she stood her ground.
