I am 63 myself and 30 years ago in UK, cycled Lands End to John O' Groats by scenic route 1,100 miles, over 2 weeks. Interesting to see how an electric bike can extend your cycling life. Maybe I can do LEJOG again 😀
I am in the honeymoon period with the electric bike and really enjoy riding it every chance I get. Julie still prefers riding the tandem over her ebike, especially in traffic, but I think it is because we can carry on a conversation, which is much more difficult when riding two bikes. I just sold my conventional road bike and Julie sold her conventional mountain bike as I don't see them getting much use now that we have these bikes. The only downsides to ebikes are that quality ebikes are very expensive, some bike trails prohibit ebikes, and it would take more planning to take them on a long multi-day trip to account for charging at the end of each day. Ebikes are a great way to get people back on bikes, no matter the age, and for avid bikers like us, they just add a new dimension to the whole biking experience.
