    1/6 Green Wood Craft.
Series celebrating the nation's craftsmanship and the recent renaissance in traditional crafts, presented by Monty Don. Three hopefuls who are passionate about learning green wood craft are put through their paces by the country's leading practitioners. The students quickly discover that the craft calls for precision, dexterity and patience. The trainees learn how to cleave the raw material; to turn blocks of wood on the pole lathe; and to manipulate the components fresh out of a steam bender.

The first of this series takes me back to the 1930's when Gypsies would call at the house selling wooden flowers, clothes pegs and brushes made with horse hair. They would depart after giving you a sprig of heather for good luck. I would walk eight miles to Earlswood Woods to pick my way though the Blue Bells. The Woodsman's fire sent a mist through the trees and I would lift my nose to it's fragrance. Hugging a tree was as natural to me as breathing, and I would listen to it's whispers as it told me "You do not own me but I will share with you that which you seek; to belong". But I knew that the wood could do without me, and though it sang to me accompanied by the soft murmurings of the leaves it would soon be but a never forgotten memory.
The wooded hills will throw back at you that which it has no need of; the sounds of mankind. Treat it kindly and it will share with you it's wealth to make your home and all that you have the need of.

This was great, I've been looking for "woodworking projects for intermediate" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Denia Diyictoria Bulldozer - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.

I had to laugh when the chairmaker said he liked to get at least 10lbs/hour for his work, some incredible craftsmanship and the woman asked in shock, "is that all?". Brings to mind the lyric in a song "you can build a mansion, you just can't live in it..." Ah, now I remember why I left the trades... My work is only for me now.

Just because someone wants to be one of these craftsmen or artist, you may not have the aptitude.
