Can we all appreciate how Oz doesn't understand what the hell is going on and still when Willow asks him to go get her stuff from the library he just trusts her, no questions asked.
Fun fact: Buffys “Close your eyes” comment was a parallel to when Darla turned Angel into a vampire.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this episode, I will always cry.
I can understand why she ran. Her mom FINALLY found out who she was and told her not to come back, she feels responsible for all her friends getting hurt, she's expelled from school, she's wanted by police for Kendra's murder, AND she's only 17 and just had to kill the love of her life, AFTER he got his soul back, in order to save the world.... I'd probably take off as well. :/
In the Buffyverse, be careful what you wish for. "I hope Angel and Buffy get together"Okay, but he loses his soul and turns super evil. "I hope Jenny and Giles get back together" Okay, but she's going to be killed horrifically. "I want Angel to get his soul back" Okay, and then Buffy will have to kill him. "I just want Buffy to tell Joyce she's the Slayer" Well that worked out well didn't it. Joss Whedon will give you everything you want, but it always comes with a price that's much worse.
Joyce throwing Buffy out of the home when she “comes out” as a Slayer is one of the many ways Joss uses paranormal elements to speak on everyday life occurrences.
Notice the difference between Buffy and any other vampire show or just hero shows in general. Buffy did the responsible thing. She put the greater good above the love of her life. Any other show would have the female lead say something like " the world be damned, you're the only thing that matters." Or they have the guy sacrifice himself against the girl's wishes, but to have HER make the decision to sacrifice the man she loves, is an incredibly empowering thing. Definitely taught me back then to keep my priorities straight, look at the bigger picture. Don't just lose yourself to someone. Everything in this show serves as a metaphor for real life.
We're not sadists, we just need to watch other people go through this for emotional therapy.
Also, kudos to David because the moment Angel get his soul back it’s evident on his face. Such a good acting! I’m still surprised, 20 years later.
"Joss Whedon, how f*cking dare you?!?!?!?!?"
that awkward feeling when the true answer to "what's your favorite line from tv?" is "Me."
This right here is why Buffy is still considered one of the best tv shows of all time, twenty years later.
If you watch it again, don't stop until after the credits. Joss Whedon's Mutant Enemy production company logo monster agrees fully, it says, "I need a hug" instead of "grrr argh."
"Joss Whedon, how F*cking dare you"
So much happens to Buffy within a 12-hour period.
Joyce: “it’s because you didn’t have a strong father figure, isn’t it?”
'How am i gonna get through 5 more series of this?'
When people say Season 2 is their favourite, it’s not because all 22 episodes are gold. It’s because Season 2 has the most well orchestrated, emotionally powerful romantic tragedy in TV history. So well done, so devastatingly powerful, all hinging on such amazing acting by SMG and David Boreanaz throughout.
"Joss Whedon how f***ing dare you" this is just the first loop, this roller coaster has so so many more.
