- Lars Hartig is currently studying urban planning and has a great deal on his shoulder between university and rowing. Hartig has the ambition to win the double scull with Timo Piontek, otherwise, he fears elimination from the Tokyo 2020 squad.
Hartig and Piontek do not only harmonize with one another on the water but are also good friends on land, which strengthens their motivation and the team spirit even further.

Duisburg war gestern,
der Stil war überzeugend,
das Ergebnis gut, wenn auch zweitrangig,
denn die Quali Tokyo, die ist erst übermorgen.
Und Morgen geht es drum, auf dem technisch guten Doppelzweier aufbauend sich im Doppelvierer zu qualifizieren für die entscheidende M2x Qualifikation 2020, zumal die anderen selbst bei Erfolgen auf der WM sich danach wieder mit Ziel Einerqualifikation in den Einer stürzen werden.
Von daher das eingespielte bewahren und darauf aufbauen als Gegenentwurf zum Doppelzweier der besten verfügten Einerfahrer. Letzterer hat die Jahre bis Olympia 2016 teils auch tragisch nicht geklappt, weil es 2 Einer im Doppelzweier blieben.
2 x leicht war 2012 auch - noch - nicht leicht, von daher Kopf hoch für morgen, den schnellsten Doppelzweier in den Doppelvierer zu bringen - für den 2020 Doppelzweier.
Noch is nix verloren ... denn der nun "qualifizierte Doppelzweier" war zumindest in Duisburg ruderisch noch keine Augenweide, wenngleich auch klar stärker, aber auch nicht sicher, denn dann wären die Schweizer nicht auf den letzten 5 Schlägen vorbei.
