I get why you sold it - with regards to the ticking, I've read a lot on that for these cars from specialists in the UK called hartech who have said that as these cars have a very low idle speed they tend to make some ticking sounds and would not worry much if the car is performing as it should be, no oil consumption, and there wasn't anything in your oil filter or oil.
Conversely, I've also read the piston slap horror stories on these as well.
Now, from further reading, I found that the earlier 911's had ferrous piston coating and the later models had plastic piston coating which made them more susceptible to bore scoring.
Overall - its one of those things, I've heard from people whose car have been making a ticking noise and they have driven it for thousands of miles with no issues. I noticed in your video it happened when you started your car from cold. I recently bought a 911 (hence all the research AFTER buying it!) that makes a slight ticking sound when warm, goes away with even the smallest of revs or when the AC is on or the fans are running. After so much reading, I've decided to just carry on driving it - if it goes, then I can cry about it then lol.
Good luck with your search for a manual 911 convertible! The 996 has always been a fav of mine, and buying one did not disappoint, thankfully!

I think if it had been a 6 speed manual car that didn't need an additional $5k of service then I would've probably kept it and drove it. At first I thought it was a stuck lifter from having sat for awhile but the noise is much more prominent on the passenger side next to the engine, hence piston. Ultimately just didn't want to risk it since it wasn't probably something I was gonna hang on to long-term.

Plastic coating on a piston and you believed that??? 😂 I'd steer clear from whoever told u that.

@@bdaddylo4908 perhaps you should do some research before you make a comment.
